Farmhouse with Private Pool and Fenced 1 Acre Garden
"Bel Air' is an unassuming typical 18th century colombage farm house, lovingly restored as a family home. A house with a happy welcoming ambiance, it is on the edge of Castillon Debats, one of highest villages in the Gers. The house is set on a ridge with one acre of completely fenced garden - it enjoys spectacular uninterrupted south views across farmland to the Pyrenees. Life centres round the large paved terrace off the newly refitted (2019) kitchen shaded by a big chestnut tree, with a small fenced pond, swings & BBQ or sunbathing at the pool area with breathtaking views to the south. The 10x5 pool is fully fenced and has plenty of sun loungers, umbrellas and various pool toys.

My partner and I, plus our two dogs, stayed for a month at Bel Air in August 2022. We loved every minute of it and would recommend. The house is charming, the area is splendid and we really felt right away at home. The kitchen has everything you need and there are plenty of linens. Communication with Emma and with the caretaker Andy were good leading up to and during
Gascony is not typically touristy in terms of SW France but we didn't run out of things to do for the month.. Maybe a well kept secret of France!
A few specifics:
- the pictures do not do this place justice and should be updated asap!
- the village has very little infrastructure in and of itself but it's well based in the region. You can get to all sorts of neat places within 20-40 minutes. Vineyards, shops, restaurants, etc. Car is required
- the 4th bathroom wasn't really usable as already occupied by some large spiders and accessible through the garden only. I would treat this as a 1 full, two half baths
- I worked for roughly 50% of the month from there and Wifi is strong enough to carry out Zoom calls, etc. It may be worth putting in an extender to get better coverage upstairs and outside. I think if trying to work from the upper floor, it may not have been as smooth
Spacious old Gascon farmhouse with beautiful views
Lots of space both inside and out - very well equipped kitchen too, and the stunning views from the lovely pool are second to none. Super garden with plenty of wildlife to spot on the doorstep & then in the neighbouring fields and woods. Enjoyed wonderful walks straight from the house. So many charming villages and towns to visit too including Eauze, Lupiac, Aignan all within a short car journey. Castillon Debats is a lovely village - though there is definitely more traffic on the main road than an occasional tractor going by. Found the shower in the family bathroom not great for tall-ish adults but the one in the laundry really good, and plenty of hot water. For a relaxing uncomplicated holiday, the Gers is perfect!
Lovely house with a fabulous pool and mountain views
Other than to sleep, we spent most of our time outside, either in the shade of the spreading chestnut tree on the terrace or in the beautiful pool with stunning views of the rolling countryside towards the Pyrenees.
We totally relaxed into the French pace of life, punctuated by the church bells and farmers travelling by.
To the reviewer who complained about a tractor - you are in the country, what do you expect!!
The beds were comfortable, although the double bed was hysterically creaky. Overall the house was charming and the kitchen was the best we have experienced in a holiday home. It had everything you could possibly need.
Not all of the garden was accessible as brambles and the bamboo had taken over during the Covid shutdown when there was optimum growing weather. There was some very tantalising figs that we could not reach but there was various spots around the garden that provided a great outlook over the countryside.
Our only gripe was that the walk down to the pool was steep and difficult for those of us that are less able. However, the pool was always worth the effort.
Finally, great location for visits to markets, brocantes, vineyards and places of interest and pretty villages.
We would stay again.
