Best bit of this house is the fabulous garden, great for hide and seek, play equipment and space is great for little ones and lovely to sit out in and watch the sun set. Lots of interesting local beaches and hill walks
The location is fantastic. The host is very helpful and welcoming. The house felt more like a home from the minute we arrived. All adults and children were amazed at the house and gardens(especially the gardens). One of our best family holiday homes.
We had an amazing long weekend here. Beautiful garden with so much room for kids to play, the slides were a huge hit. Wonderful views. The house had everything we needed and Richard was fantastic with communication.
We were thrilled with the cottages and garden. Our children and grandchildren seeing places they haven’t been to before. Our dogs made the best of the garden and were comfortable in their beds in the kitchen.
Our host was incredibly helpful with all information needed for our stay and we felt very relaxed. Played games with the family in the evening provided by the host.
Many thanks for sharing your home with us David and Miren
The thatched cottage is both picturesque and spacious with beautiful gardens to the front and rear
As you enter the house you immediately pick up good vibes of a family home
We were a family of grand parents ,parents 3
children under 10 years and two dogs ( an elderly whippet and whippet collie cross)
The house is surrounded by interesting walks and excellent family and dog friendly pubs and of course the beach with its numerous fossils is close by
This was our second visit to the cottage and we had a comfortable stay. The cottage is very quaint and set in peaceful grounds.
There were just a couple of things that we thought we would mention - the hob in the kitchen was difficult to cook with as the rings were temperamental - they only seems to work when on full blast.
Our stay coincided with the gardeners visit. This was a shame as we were only staying for the week. Whilst the gardeners were polite, it was quite noisy sitting outside whilst they were there strimming and a little intrusive. Perhaps the gardeners could visit once guests had gone - we vacated the property by 11am on Friday and this may be a good time for the gardeners to come. Just a thought.
A nice and cosy cottage which is well equipped with a gorgeous garden full of flowers and shrubs.
Had a lovely 7 day holiday with family and our 2 dogs ,who just loved the garden as we all did.
Picturesque cottage with all home from home comforts.
Hope to return again soon
We celebrated Xmas and New Year at the cottage and it was perfect for the 3 of us. The owners have provided everything one might need in the kitchen and elsewhere, including Xmas decorations and logs for the fire. The house is roomy and warm, beautifully decorated, and the grounds are extensive and a delight to walk around. The Chandlers have been very responsive throughout and were kind enough to let us extend the stay as we were having such a lovely time there. The peace and quiet was so welcome we would definitely think about returning. Top marks! PS: We highly recommend the local Hood Arms; the food is excellent and the staff are super friendly.
Our second stay at this lovely property. A very clean, comfortable and well-appointed cottage. Lovely garden to sit out in or explore, full of birds, bees and butterflies this time of year. Convenient to beach and Quantocks.
We loved our stay at this charming and spacious thatched cottage tucked away in a beautiful rural setting with beautiful gardens . It was comfortable and felt like home from home . We are looking forward to our next visit !
Good location and lovely garden BUT inside tired and damp.
This is an attractive-looking cottage from the outside, but unfortunately the photos of the outside and the lovely garden belie the very tired soft furnishings inside. We found all the armchairs and both sofas to be very uncomfortable, and both double beds also in need of updating. The king-size bed was fine in the large airy master bedroom but the 2 single beds in the annex, above the garage, were really too small for a normal-sized adult, and the single glazed window next to these beds made that room feel cold, although an extra oil -filled radiator is provided; the rest of the house is centrally heated and warmed up very quickly when needed. Another issue was that neither of the 2 showers had much water pressure, so the electric shower would keep pausing during use. However, the main problem with this house was the strong smell of damp, particularly in the living room and adjoining garden room, to the extent that we really didn't want to spend much time in there, and it quite spoiled our stay. The owners are very helpful in terms of their comprehensive information etc. but the house would definitely benefit from some internal updating/upgrading. Unfortunately we won't return because of this, even though we loved the location, and certainly could not recommend, sorry.
A home from home, very comfortable and well-equipped. Lovely large garden to stroll around, full of birds, bees and butterflies. Location was close to village and beach, with easy connection to main roads and footpaths to village and beach from the property.
Choosing to hire Kilve was the most difficult part of the process. After that corresponding with Richard the owner was like talking to an old friend and the house itself is lovely and welcomes you immediately as a real home.
We wanted, with our friends, a get away to the country for the new year holiday and this was perfect. We walked miles every day both along the coast and in the Quantocks and ate, drank and talked too much round the fire in the evenings. Perfect.
Would I change anything? Perhaps persuading the local restaurants to delay going off for their holidays until after new year but then we didn’t have to drive if we ate at home.
What a fantastic place to stay. Everything we needed was there and more. Our Christmas stay was amazing and would definately love to return.
Thank you to our host Richard for the use of his beautiful home

About the host
Hosted by Richard Chandler
Rowditch was the family home where our daughters grew up in a rural setting which offers so many freedoms that children growing up in the city cannot enjoy. We all still love spending time here, walking the footpaths and bridleways and watching the wildlife and the seasons as they change. Here you can relax to the tune of the blackcap and the woodpecker's drumming and familiarise yourself with the flora and fauna of South West England. We work hard to maintain a balance, keeping the gardens tidy yet at the same time allowing the natural world around us to thrive
Why they chose this property
Rowditch is the quintessential English thatched cottage and is situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The roomy, 4 bedroomed cottage provides comfort and cosiness whilst outside, Rowditch offers a private, secluded environment' It is the perfect place for family football games, barbecues and games of hide and seek in the wooded areas and long grass or just resting in the shelter of the ancient trees which surround the property. We strive to protect our environment and the birds, invertebrates, plants and mammals that share it with us .There are populations of slow worms, toads, a range of butterfly , moth and dragonfly species as well as bees, beetles, numerous rabbits and the occasional deer and pole cats who find their way into the gardens. But our favourites are the birds: from the owls and their night calls to the busy range of tits who feed at the bird table and the buzzards who wheel overhead, they are all wonderful to watch.
What makes this property unique
In this remote, peaceful setting you can escape from the rush of town life and spend the day in the open air just walking and unwinding . Rowditch is conveniently situated and guests are able to travel into town and have easy access to both modern amenities and tourist and cultural activities while at the same time preserving a sense of remote separation . For the little ones there are garden swings, a slide and a children's tree house as well as a travel cot and high chair. In hot weather, the garden sprinkler playing on the lawns is a delightful and welcome form of entertainment.
For older children and adults, there is a selection of board and word games stored in the Welsh dresser in the dining room as well as sets of boules and badminton for the more energetic. The house is surrounded by beautiful views of the hills (Quantocks and Exmoor) and from the garden the stunning colours of the sun setting over Wales and Bristol Channel are powerfully atmospheric.
