Trullo Villa With Large Private Pool, Beautiful Gardens, In A Charming Setting
Our trullo is named the Little Wood, and nestles in countryside between Alberobello, which is the centre of the Trullo world, and Locorotondo, another lovely little Italian town. Little Wood is ideally located for many of the tourist attractions in Puglia, such as Lecce, Martina Franca and Otranto - of course the Adriatic is just a 30 minute drive away. The real beauty of our home is the tranquility - set in countryside as it is, it is a million miles away from all the hustle and bustle we encounter in our working lives. When you explore the land, you'll find the vineyard, masses of olive trees, and a mixture of additional trees - apricot, plum, passion fruit, walnut, fig and so on. If anyone in the party is particularly tired, then just use the hammock under the fir trees by the house, and listen to the breeze gently whistling through the fir trees!

Absolutely stunning property & gardens, perfect for our party of 4. Great location for site seeing, Matera is a must!
Car is pretty essential as there’s no shops near but good supermarkets in Locoratondo, we stocked up & cooked most nights as the garden & pool was the perfect place to be in the evening.
Good communication with Gary, the owner arranging car hire & pick up for us & Catrine for greeting us.
Week equipped house & an amazing pool.
We absolutely loved staying at Little Wood! The house was perfect for our family and would be equally good for an extended family get away. Obviously the pool was the main attraction but we also enjoyed the various places to sit and relax on the property as well as the mature plantings that made you feel like you are at a luxury resort! Perfect location for exploring both the inland towns and the seaside; we wish we’d spent our whole holiday here rather than stay in a town first. Both Gary and Catrine were very responsive and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back!
We enjoyed our stay at the Trullo Villa. the villa is surrounded by a beautiful garden and a great swimming pool (exceeding our expectations and may be not reflected in the above pictures). It is also closed to touristic places (Locorotondo, Alburobello, Monopoly). I defintely recommend this Villa for a stay.
Yet again, another wonderful stay at Little Wood. Once again, everything was perfect.
Gardens as beautiful as ever, and villa perfect.
Everything you need, for a relaxing, chilled holiday.
Thanks Gary, and thank you Catrine, for all your advise and help.
Until the next time 😀
Just Perfect
The first evening when we arrived in Trullo made all stress go away.
The beautiness of the garden and the house cannot be seen in the pictures. The house is built in the traditional Pugliese way and is cool even during the hottest temperatures (we stayed during 2023 July heat wave). Thick walls ensure that it is quiet as well. Good sleep is guaranteed.
There are also all the amenities you need such as the Internet, dishwasher etc...
The beautiful garden has lots of different kinds of trees, bushes, and flowers. Delicious plums were in season during our stay. The pool is the perfect size to swim and for children to enjoy it.
Catrine, the local host, was very kind and helpful in making your stay comfortable and feel welcome.
The services such as Supermarkets are nearby in Locorotondo or Alberobello. Also, beaches, sightseeings (Like the James Bond scene Matera) and bigger cities are reachable easily. There's simply too much to see in 10 days. This is a place where you must come back!
The photos do not do this Villa justice !
We had a fantastic week at Little Wood.
The location is great for exploring Puglia. The Villa had been wonderfully restored and is a really lovely place to stay. Comfortable beds (a must for me), fully equipped kitchen, good wifi. All the things you need when travelling with kids. The heated pool was immaculate as were the gardens - probably the nicest garden we’ve encountered across Italy. I cant speak highly enough of this Villa. Plus the communication from the owner was top drawer as well.
We will be back !
We had a fabulous fortnight at the trulli which was very spacious for our family of 5. Most of all we enjoyed the big swimming pool where we spend lots of hours and had a fantastic time.
Communicating with Gary, the owner, was very pleasant, as well as prior to our trip as when we were there.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by Catrine, a lovely English speaking lady who lives in the area for a couple of years now. She answered all our questions and was extremely responsive.
The trullo itself was a real gem, we loved every minute we were there.
We hope to return next year.
We had the most magical two week stay here and loved every minute of it. Some highlights:
- The house has such a charm, being converted from old Trulli, it still has the original character but with everything we could possibly need. It was really well equipped both in terms of cooking equipment, things like fans and everything we could need for the kids.
- The pool - oh the pool where we spent 6hrs a day - refreshing yet warm, and for small kids the big shallow walk-in steps were just brilliant. We bought a few inflatables but there were actually loads of noodles/inflatables/pool toys already there.
- The garden - at any one point in time you could see about 10 butterflies, just beautiful flowers/plants everywhere you looked which were a mecca for wildlife, dragonflies and swallows flying overhead - so so special, and to have an olive grove at the end of the garden was lovely.
- Areas to eat/drink around the garden - so many to choose from, we particularly loved the covered area next to the pool with the big stone table, but lots of options.
- The location - we ventured into Alberobello but found it too touristy for us, but we loved the charm of Locorontondo (had a couple of breakfasts, ice cream trips and takeaway pizzas) and enjoyed a trip to the beach half an hour away. On a very basic level, it's only an hour from Brindisi or Bari, which makes it really accessible.
- Catrine showed us around and was so helpful. Gary was really quick to respond and the most perfect host.
Until next time!
Traumhafter Garten mit perfektem Pool und schönem Trulli
Lieber Gary, liebe Cathrin,
We were met on arrival by Catherine who was really friendly helpful and efficient. We were delighted that the property lived up to our expectations that were sky high thanks to the photos online.
The house is very well appointed and there is nothing that one could reasonably require that is not there. The pool and gardens are magnificent, with strawberries, chillies and tomatoes growing one site. There must by 5 or 6 diffenent areas to sit and relax as well as the loungers by the pool.
This is an ideal family holiday home and we couldn't recommend it highly enough.
In terms of the location, it is equidistant between Alberobello and Locortondo, two lovely towns with Martina Franca a little further on - also worth a trip.
We have generally visited Tuscany and Lake Como, but where not disappointed at all with Puglia, whilst generally delighted with the better value in the restaurants. We will be back if the owners will have us.

A little piece of paradise
Absolutely stunning, pool and gardens beautiful.. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs available which we enjoyed using. The trullo was more than adequately equipped, and immaculate. Gary the owner was only a phone call away, to assist with any queries or problems, and Catrine who lives locally who met us on arrival, was able to give us information about the area, shops, restaurants etc.. Loved our week there, and will definitely be back!!

About the host
Hosted by Gary Sullivan
My wife and I have sought to create something a little special at our 'Little Wood'. Everyone that has visited our little trullo always comes away feeling that they have shared something a little special.
We love being their ourselves, and hate coming away, and sometime we'll retire there, until we do, we're happy to 'share with you!'.
Why they chose this property
We love Italy, and everything about it - tranquility, the beauty of the architecture, il vino, il sole, il mare...what else can I say?!
If you hate the rat race, and want to experience the direct opposite, then just go and take a couple of weeks at our Little Wood.
What makes this property unique
You will struggle to find another trullo with similar gardens, a small vineyard, all the trees, and the sheer tranquility of the place.
The Little Wood isn't the only trullo available, and it isn't the biggest, we just happen to think it's the prettiest, and when you add the tranquility, then we feel that there is something special to be shared.
The Little Wood is a great base to enable you to explore the local area, visit the Adriatic and so on - of course when you've done enough touring you can just head back 'home' and chill out by the pool.
