Stunning luxury cliff top retreat - direct access to the South West Coast Path.
Cancleave has been in the family since 1962. During the winter of 2020/21 it underwent a complete knockdown and rebuild to create a modern, energy efficient and comfortable property.
Cancleave is situated in beautiful North Cornwall, on the coast road between Crackington Haven and Widemouth Bay. With a large lawned garden bordering the South West Coast Path, it commands extensive views across Bude Bay.
The property lies within the North Cornwall designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as the Boscastle to Widemouth SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). Nearby Widemouth Bay, Bude and Crackington Haven beaches are all patrolled by RNLI lifeguards on a seasonal basis, as are many of the other beaches in the area. It makes a great base to expolore the many attractions and delights that North Cornwall has to offer. From the coast path outside the gate, the numerous picturesque coastal villages, nearby Bodmin Moor and the highly acclaimed Eden Project slightly further afield, there is something for everyone.
The attractions are too numerous to list and the best bit is exploring for yourself.

A beautiful property which is very high spec, amazing views with direct access to the coastal path. The local beaches are within easy driving distance and Black Rock is dog friendly all year round. Patrick is a very friendly and efficient host and we would love to return sometime.
Beautiful location with stunning views. The property has to be not only the nicest but cleanest we have stayed in anywhere around the world. Highly recommend.
One of the best places we have stayed. Accommodation was amazing, it was very clean with everything you need and wonderful views from every room. The grounds were amazing, the family and the dogs loved everything. This was definitely a place to relax and reflect. I am sure we will look to return again
Stunning coastal views from this contemporary, tastefully decorated property. Fantastic communication with the property manager who was very accommodating. Would definitely recommend for a family holiday and would happily stay again.
We booked this property much earlier this year as a venue for a 50th birthday gathering for friends and family. It was ideal. The facilities for the various combinations of people was fantastic. The house itself is stunning, the location is amazing, and everyone had a wonderful time.
The property has been beautifully rebuilt with quality fixtures and fittings. It has everything you could possibly need and felt like a home from home. The view was spectacular. There was plenty of space for seven adults and we never felt cramped or in each others way. I would definitely recommend it!
Phenomenal recently renovated property right on the coastal path with sweeping views. Very spacious 4 bed 4 bathroom accommodation that our family loved. Very large garden that was perfect for watching the sun set and the cows and sheep in the adjacent fields. We really lacked for nothing and would definitely rent Cancleave again.
Cancleave is the most fabulous place to stay. The location is incredible with wraparound lawns ideal for families and four legged friends. The views and sunsets beautiful.
The house itself is brilliantly furnished, extremely comfy and equipped perfectly.
The area has so much to do, all within an easy distance, loads of beaches and great places to eat and drink. Didn’t want to leave!
Cancleave is a really great property in a stunning location.
The owner helped us book a taxi for ny nieces wedding and the house suited my family perfectly. We were very lucky weather-wise and saw some stunning sunsets. Such a relaxing place. Highly recommend.
Location could not be better.
Quite and picturesque.
The house is well designed, with a well equipped kitchen and all other necessary accessories.
A few suggestions if the manager could accommodate;
Provide a Nespresso machine, which is not too costly and provide specs so guests can bring their own Nespresso pods.
Instal a short fence or plant some shrubs in front of the septic tank to block the view from the bedroom windows.
Property was exactly as described. Patrick is a responsive and helpful host. We loved walking the south west coastal trail and watching the sun set. There are many positives about this home from having everything you need available to enjoying the company of family bring together.
This place is a must if you are looking for peace and quiet. It has the most fantastic sea views with the sound of the sea with direct access to the costal path. Very quiet and remote and with all you need in an immaculately clean and beautiful, spacious cottage!!! Will definitely be booking again. Stunning
Peaceful and beautiful location. House spotless and very well equipped. We had some fantastic days out and relaxed in the house most evenings, with the most perfect sunsets!
An amazing location, direct access to the Coastal path and easy driving to Widemouth Bay and Bude.
Beautifully designed and spacious accommodation .
Spotlessly clean on arrival, could not recommend more
Such a lovely property with amazing views and access to fantastic coastal walks. Great beaches near by and if you are up for an adventure then the steep descent/abseil to the beach directly below the property is a lot of fun. Patrick was superb with communication and also gave us lots of recommendations. The farm shop in Boscastle has amazing scones, quiche and fresh meat. Northcott bay was beautiful- a great expanse of sand as the tide goes out. Plus a lovely cliff walk there too. An amazing week away. Thank you
Our group of 2 adults, 4 kids and dog enjoyed the stay.
The view is AMAZING and on the clear days we loved sitting out in the garden and eating our meals there.
The home is near a charming pebble beach called Millook (15-20 min walk) and well situated to drive to Bude or Widemouth Bay quickly. It is literally on the coastal path which runs past the garden. We found the beach below the property too difficult to get to - a bit of a scramble down the cliffs and we never got all the way, but people without children / dog may be able to get down there.
Do get insect repellent and fly strips as there were a lot of horseflies and flies around.
We were a little worried about the parking but we got both our massive cars (Skoda estate and Alhambra People carrier) on the drive. You just need to be a reasonably competent driver and be prepared to take your time.
You have to have clear expectations. If you expect it to be lavish, with WiFi, and to be essentially an urban or suburban house then you will be disappointed. If however you expect a basic rural cottage in a remote location but which is comfortable enough then you will be quite content.
The property owner was attentive and communicative.
We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back to Cancleave.

About the host
Hosted by Patrick Cummins
I've lived in Crackington Haven, North Cornwall since the age of 3 apart from a period of time working away and overseas. I met my wife in Hong Kong in 1998 and since moving back permanently in 2004 we have been running Cancleave. My mother purchased Cancleave in 1962 as a timber framed building. Over the years Cancleave has been extended and improved but for a few years we have had a dream to redevelop it. After much wrangling with the planners work on the 'All New Cancleave' began in October 2020 and on 12th June 2021 we welcomed the first guests to the new property. The new construction is incredibly well insulated, energy efficient and comfortable and really makes the most of the stunning location. Having grown up in the area I have a love of surfing, the beaches and walking the coast paths. Each season brings its own beauty and characteristics from balmy June days with seemingly endless daylight hours to dark stormy winter days which can be incredible to witness.
Why they chose this property
The redeveloped Cancleave is a beautifully modern and functional space. It is such a unique location and the new build really makes the most of the incredible surroundings.
The building has been designed to sit into the surrounding environment with the minimum of impact.
The modern construction benefits from exceptional insulation properties, underfloor heating from an air source heat pump and solar pv panels generating electricity on the roof.
The modern and spacious kitchen has been commended by many of our guests. Combined with the open plan living and dining area it provides a great space socialise and relax at any time of the day. It truly is the hub of the house.
What makes this property unique
The property is in a truly unique location bordering the South West Coast path. Situated on its own between Crackington Haven and Widemouth Bay it commands extensive views across Bude Bay, all the way to Lundy Island on clear days.
The large garden provides the perfect space for relaxing and watching the sun go down.
