About this property

Luxury Cottage in Strontian

Bramble Cottage is a modern, bright and spacious, exceptionally well appointed 3 bedroom property in the village of Strontian. Exceptionally popular with repeat visitors who enjoy the additional space offered by two lounges, one of which is a very spacious upstairs lounge, including balcony with views to Loch Sunart. The property features a luxury master en-suite with king sized bed and roll top bath. Warning - once you arrive you may not want to leave!
Ground floor:-
Lounge - welcoming and relaxing, with views towards Loch Sunart, TV, EE TV giving access to UK main channels along with Netflix, BBC I-Player, ITV Hub and catch up TV apps. CD player.
Kitchen - spacious with seating for 6, full size fridge/freezer, oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, slow cooker - plenty of cook wear and sharp knifes for the cooks! Patio door to side patio, leading to enclosed lawned garden. You will find a selection of Scottish goodies to enjoy whilst you settle in and milk for that essential cuppa.
Bedroom one - handmade king sized bed with added comfort of memory foam mattress, 100% cotton bedding, full wardrobe, dressing table, hair drier.
Bedroom two - spacious with handmade twin beds, 100% cotton bedding, full wardrobe, drawers, selection of books and games for all guests young and old.
Bathroom - full sized bath, washing basin, toilet, separate shower cubicle, heated towel rail. Finished with handmade shelving and comfort disability rail.
Hallway - very spacious and a popular spot if you are bringing a 4 legged friend for their beds, coat stand, plenty of space for walking boots, outdoor jackets etc. Hall cupboard with a "basket of useful things" just in case you snap a shoe lace or forget your phone charger....You will also find a hand made staircase (customer from local oak) leading to luxurious upstairs with large Lounge, king sized bedroom and roll top bath. I have used Scottish hard woods and prioritised comfort, space and light in Bramble.
Second Lounge:- Wander up the hand made oak stairs, to enter the open plan spacious and relaxing lounge. You wont find a second TV here - this space is for relaxing, unwinding and spending time together. Perhaps read a book or watch the diverse range of birds through the patio doors in the surrounding trees. Why not enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony whilst taking in the views of Loch Sunart.
Bedroom 3:- Just off the lounge is a luxury master bedroom suite with hand made king sized bed, simba mattress and en suite which includes roll top bath. Warning - once you enter, you may not want to leave! This is a much loved holiday cottage and I want all guests to experience a peaceful and relaxing environment all year round.
Garden - Enclosed large, flat sunny garden with seating area.
Large drying shed - 11metres x 2.5 metres - plenty of space for bikes, kayaks and walking equipment!
The cottage looks towards beautiful Loch Sunart - a few minutes walk away and an ideal spot for kayakers and sailors alike. Fishing is also popular in the village and local permits are available at the shop.
Strontian is the perfect hub for walkers and nature lovers wishing to explore the many local paths and mountain trails of the area known as the Outdoor Capital of the UK. You may be happy with the walks from the door, and there really is no need to venture far to enjoy the scenery and tranquility, not to mention the wildlife, but it would be a shame to miss out on some of what the area has to offer.
The village has invested in a new pathway making it easier to get to the beach. Walks through the Sunart Oakwood forest are also very enjoyable.
Visits to Mull and Iona via the nearby Lochaline ferry or Skye via Mallaig are very enjoyable day trips. The majestic mountains of Glencoe or bustling Fort William can be reached within 45 minutes via a short crossing on the Corran Ferry. Why not climb Ben Nevis - Britains highest mountain, while here? Or simply enjoy the Stunning sandy beaches and secluded spots of Sanna, within easy reach on the Ardnamurchan peninsula whilst Ardnamurchan Point itself, with its dramatic views out to the Hebrides, is the most westerly part of the British mainland. Enjoy lunch at Ardurmuchan Lighthouse - Britains most westerly point. The majestic scenery of the West Highland Line can be experienced by train from nearby Fort William, giving visitors the opportunity to see the world-famous Glenfinnan Viaduct at the head of Loch Shiel. Whatever you choose to do, you will look forward to returning to Bramble Cottage, perhaps preparing a meal in the kitchen to enjoy al-fresco in the garden, or simply relaxing with a good book in one of the lounges before taking a short stroll to the local hotel for a meal.
Forgotten a key ingredient or pint of milk? Don't worry - there are 2 well stocked shops within 5 minutes stroll!
The cottage has been designed for both couples, friends and families in mind and we have many return guests each year from each group. The upstairs area would be perfect for a second couple or for families keen to bring the grand parents and ensure everyone has space. The additional en-suite will save queues in the morning!
The ground floor is wheel chair friendly, with flat entrance, wide doors and lower wall switches. If you have mobility issues you have no need to go upstairs.
The cottage offers a selection of books, jigsaws and board games for those wet afternoons to bring the whole family together!
An Amazon firestick gives access to Netflix and Amazon Prime, along with all the usual BBC iPlayer/ STV Player content.
A newly installed signal booster means you are now able to make and receive calls from you mobile with most network providers (but you don't need to tell anyone that if you don't want to be contacted!)
At bramble you can do as much - or as little! - as you want. We hope you enjoy it as much as we and all previous guests do.
Many of our guests tell us it the best holiday cottage they have ever stayed in - which explains why so many return year after year!

Beautiful by the loch

I think from the photos I was expecting more. Some things let it down, the oven was dirty the lawn hadn’t been cut before we arrived as we have dogs it’s easier to find and clean up after them in shorter grass. The beds were lovely and comfortable, the sofas not so good. The lighting in the kitchen was pretty awful. We had a great week exploring the ardnamurchan peninsula even though the weather was very wet. The dogs Fern and Bramble loved being next to the woods. Highly recommend the kilcamb lodge and the Strontian hotel for food.

Weeks stay

We had a great stay. Liz was really helpful on our journey up providing information on our journey and letting us check in early. The house is really spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. The location is great. Close to shop, hotel ( food good), cafe, walks from doorstep, forest walks, beach. Loads to do with Pugh getting in the car but also had some fab days out at sanna bay, Tobermory, and various other local places. We had a great stay! Thank you

Nice stay in a beautiful area

Had a nice stay here for 2 weeks with our son and black lab Jack. Cottage along a nice quiet lane and had everything you could need for your stay. Well stocked general store just a couple of minutes walk away, with attached cafe which does a lovely full Scottish breakfast! Also nice evening meals available at the Bothy restaurant in the Strontian hotel with beautiful views up Loch Sunart. Area had lots of nice walks and quite a few nice beaches not too far away. Host Liz was easily contacted re. any queries and quick to respond.

Lovely peaceful location

The cottage is in a perfect location, lovely and peaceful. Lots of lovely walks on the doorstep. The Strontian Hotel just nearby recommended for an evening meal and drinks. The check-in was very easy. The garden was a little untidy and the lawn needed cutting. The cottage was tidy but could have been cleaner, we felt the floors hadn't been cleaned properly. The TV connection wasn't perfect but that could have something to do with the remoteness of the cottage. This would not stop me booking again in the future though. Thank you Sheila and Kev.

Beautiful Scotland

Lovely comfortable property, beds comfortable nice enclosed garden and peaceful location Corran ferry being off was not ideal and put a lot of travel time on the trip obviously something that couldn’t be avoided but does cut the area off somewhat! Negatives- had to clear up dog mess in the garden on arrival not ideal with young children eager to play after 12 hours of Travelling

Holiday on the Ardnamurchan Peninsular

We had a lovely two week holiday at this cottage. The house itself is beautiful and in a great location with a local shop nearby. It’s a fantastic location to explore the area which is so varied (from sandy beaches to woodland walks to mountains) and the views are amazing including the Hebrides islands. It’s easy to get to Mull and Fort William (by ferry) which gives the opportunity for more exploration - or climbing in my daughter’s case. The roads are small which makes the journeys quite lengthy to get to some places but it’s worth it. The local people were very friendly too and the nearby tea shop does delicious home cooked evening meals (we went twice). We were blessed with beautiful weather which always helps and we all had a great time.

Beautiful location and lovely home

We had a fantastic stay at the cottage. The location is great - well placed for exploring the area but just a short walk to the local shop and pub. The cottage is well equipped and cosy. We really enjoyed using the upstairs 'TV free' room to relax and read with a a small glass of something. The weather was kind enough that we could also relax in the garden. Great place. Would definitely visit again.

Brmable Cottage, Strontian

The house was perfect for our needs as a group of four hill-walkers / cyclists. Plenty of comfortable seating after a hard day's exercise, lots of light and space with two lounges, one on each floor and warm and homely throughout. The beds were large and comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and we appreciated the covered outside storage area for boots and bikes.

About the host

Hosted by Liz Cuthbert

Host profile image
I live in East Kilbride with my 2 children, Adam and Emma. We have holidayed on the Ardurmuchan peninsula for years, loving the peacefulness of the area.

In 2019 I was very pleased to open the upstairs area of Bramble, which has been a real labour of love to incorporate design ideas, natural wooden touches and maximise the use of space to create a relaxing and tranquil environment.

I am a self employed leadership coach, and prioritise service, believing if you have a good week you will return and recommend.

Why they chose this property

I bought this property as we recognised Strontian as being in the perfect location for a varied family holiday. We can get to the beaches of Sanna, the hills of Glencoe, the picturesque Island of Mull or Fort William in an hour, or we can take a walk through ancient oak lands or by Loch Sunart straight from the door. When we viewed the cottage it was obvious the previous owners had invested great love and attention in the cottage having only built it 5 years previously. It had a warmth and welcoming feel that felt like coming home. Previous visitors in the visitors book all spoke of their love for Bramble and their desire to return. The cottage has a shop, cafe and hotel within a few minutes walk and we liked the benefit of being "away from it all" but with convenience on the door step. All locals have been friendly and the small town has a real community feel that is missing in today's busier towns. We love getting off the Corran Ferry on the peninsula, feeling our modern day stresses melt away safe in the knowledge that in 20 minutes we will be Enjoying the peace and warmth of Bramble Cottage.
The cottage is rarely empty - if we don’t have guests staying we will be there ( more often than not looking for more ways to improve it for the following year!). But every day starts with a walk to the shore to see the loch and reconnect with the peace and beauty of the area.

What makes this property unique

Bramble Cottage is set in an ideal situation. It is only metres away from all local amenities but has no passing traffic. It offers privacy with a fenced front garden and has enclosed, flat gardens to the rear - so perfect for children or pets. It is situated on the edge of a woodland offering fantastic walks. It is in the ideal location to enjoy a varied holiday, with majestic Glencoe, the scenic Island of Mull, the glorious sandy beaches of Sanna all within an hour, or fabulous walks from the door. The cottage has generously proportioned rooms and is wheel chair friendly ground floor. We aim to provide a home from home that you will want to return to again and again. We try to take the stress out by providing quality linens, towels, kitchen basics such as washing up liquid, a complimentary welcome pack with fresh milk in the fridge. We hope you will love Bramble as we do!
Why choose Bramble? It’s a unique and much loved property where we invest our heart and soul into making it as good as it can be.

Many of the furnishings are hand made to traditional methods.

I have focussed on comfort and tranquility with quality soft furnishings in relaxing shades.
