About this property

Charming house with garden and beautiful views

Our charming traditional village house set within the walls of Pigna's historic village centre is the perfect place to relax, experience a slower pace of life and simply enjoy time living in the moment in the peaceful garden surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.

Stepping up from the narrow street the house has a fully fitted dining kitchen opening up to the vaulted ceiling lounge (with double sofa bed) and downstairs bathroom with shower. Directly outside the kitchen you can dine at the family size outdoor dining area with shade and BBQ and the garden extends with some additional seating and herbs and vines. On the upper level of the house (accessed via an outdoor staircase) are two large bedrooms, one with a large double bed and another with a double bed and a pull out single camp bed for an additional child as well as a desk and chair for remote working. There is another shower room and toilet also on the upper level. Outside from the upper level there is a cute balcony directly off the double bedroom where you can enjoy the night sky from as well as the large upper terrace equip with sunbeds and shade.

The house sleeps 6 comfortably and is very charming and unique. It is unusual to have such a lovely private garden within the historic part of Pigna village.

The house is full of character with original tiled floors, stone vaulted ceilings and a large open fire, as well a large areas of private outside space and gardens. Children can play safely between the lower and upper garden's as the villa's garden's are totally secure.

It is situated just within the medieval walls of the old center but with good access to nearby parking.

A fantastic 1 in 2 of our guests book a return visit or recommend a friend!

Pigna is an Italian medieval village just over the border from the French Riviera. It is located within the foothills below the mountains and set in breathtaking countryside. It is only a 20 minute drive from the coastline of both the French and Italian Rivieras, including Monte Carlo / Monaco, San Remo, Bordegheria and is surrounded by many more beautiful and interesting medieval villages.
It's a special place where time seems to have stood still and you can enjoy a real Italian holiday but is so close to the charms of the Italian and French coast.
Within the village of Pigna there are many amenities including a local grocery shop, 4 restaurants including a local wood fired oven bar/pizzeria and a brilliant family run traditional restaurant, a few local bars, tennis court, children's play park and Pharmacy.

Take a stroll when you wake to the local cafe, order a cappuccino and delight at the homemade cakes & pastries; a perfect way to start your day the Italian way!

There are local places of interest in the village such as historic churches and the town square which has it's own local produce market every Saturday morning. The medieval heart of the village is very impressive, almost castle like and of course has no cars. There are many medieval buildings and places to explore, including the original bread ovens, town square etc. In addition there are fantastic walking and climbing trails throughout the mountain's accessed from many locally sign posted paths from the village where you can explore historic sites and churches, hidden streams and rock pools with river swimming pools very close by.

The area has many attractions and is a beautiful combination of mountains and sea.

Italy is a food lovers paradise and the food in this region is typically homemade and rustic. Small village family run restaurants often without menus, just the food of the day, as well as fantastic wood fired oven pizza's, seafood specialties at the coast and Michelin fine dining. The 4 restaurants in the village are great examples and are within walking distance of the house. This area really is a food lovers paradise and has many unique dishes from this beautiful part of Italy.

In addition we can advise on any questions you have...things to do etc, as well as help to arrange weddings, special occasions etc.

Lovely place in an idyllic village

Lovely renovated townhouse in the ancient village of Pigna. We stayed with 5 people and had plenty of space. The apartment was remarkably cool despite the hot weather (over 30 degrees Celsius every day). We also loved the two terrasses although they were in strong competition with the great bar that is 50m down the street. We also

Lovely stay in a beautiful town

Pigna is a lovely medieval town and the house is in the top of the village. Pigna has 1 restaurant and several bars. It's small but nice. The apartments were nice and had everything what we needed. Recommended for families

Summer in pigna

Spent 4 days here, the accomodation was charming and spacious and village beautiful. Bars, cafes and restaurants were fab. Highlight was the local rock pools. The beds could have been more comfy but we managed. Would def recommend and would stay here again as position both in village itself and surrounding areas is great.

Fabulous, airy house with wonderful views in a lovely village.

The house is in the heart of Pigna's lovely windy streets, with fabulous views down over Pigna and the villages beyond. The house has two lovely terrraces, with plenty of garden furniture, shade, sunshine and lovely views. The family house is well-equipped. We enjoyed using the friendly local restaurants and corner shops, which serve tasty food and delicious ice cream. Communication with the owner was very helpful. We found travelling to the house by public transport very straight forward - there is a tram from Nice airport, which takes you (free of charge) just 2 stops to a shopping centre, and it is then just a 10 minutes walk to Nice St-Augustin train station. From there it takes just an hour to Ventimiglia, and then a 50 minute bus to Pigna. The buses run every day, but you do have to plan their use carefully , as they do not run very frequently. One of our favourite things to do was to walk to the natural rock pools near Pigna. The pictures on the owner's web site are lovely, but you really must experience this yourself to fully appreciate the charm of the location. The 15 minute walk to the river is delightful.

lovely spacious and comfortable house in interesting village

5 of us stayed here and enjoyed the local restaurants and bars of the village. We also had some lovely walks around the local area. We went back to the rock pools of Rochetta Nervina which were unchanged from 30 years ago when we swam in them before. As we only had 3 days here. we didn't manage to swim in the rock pools in Pigna. We will save that experience for our next trip. We would definitely stay at this house again. It was perfect.

Beautiful, medieval Pigna

Our family of four had a lovely week’s stay in Pigna. Our initial walk from where we left the car to unload round to the villa was breathtaking. Parts of the medieval village reminded me of Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley, with tiny alleys leading off and wooden doors with lamps hanging over. The villa had everything we needed and the outside space was perfect for relaxing or eating in the sun. The village of Pigna is quiet and friendly and where you feel part of the community. The local coffee shop sells amazing coffee, patisserie and ice cream, from where you can watch many cyclists come and go. The ‘local’ waterfalls we walked to provided many hours of exploration and relaxation alike. We visited the local bar and played pool and spent lovely evenings in other restaurants nearby. The beach at Bordighera is a stony beach where you can hire sun loungers, but we were comfortable enough to lay on towels and mingle in with the many locals who came down late afternoon. The sea varied from calm and tranquil to vast, smashing waves - both as equally enjoyed although the life guards were diligent in keeping people safe. Visits to other villages to see Monet’s bridge, waterfalls and amazing views kept us all amused. Thanks to the comprehensive information we received prior to going and in the villa this helped us to make the most out of our week, although also leaves us feeling that we need to go back for more!

Beautiful villa in a beautiful town

The villa is amazing with picturesque views of the mountains. It was equipped with everything required for a relaxing stay. The gardens and sun area are an added bonus : we loved sitting out on an evening under the lights reading and chatting. Ian and Sue have thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable with a wide variety of books, DVDs and board games. Ian's information booklet helps you make the most of your stay with directions to rock pools, best places to eat nyoom other local information. We have fallen in love with the villa and Pigna nyoom cannot wait to return next year.

nice house in the beautiful, narrow old streets of Pigna

Stayed here in May, it was quiet and warm. We had everything we needed. There is a good spot for swimming in the river nearby. The roads are nice for cycling. The local restaurants have excellent local food at reasonable prices. It's about 25 min to the beach.

Unique and Beautiful place

We had a fantastic stay in this lovely medieval villa in a picturesque town in the mountains. The villa had everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. We liked that there was so much to do in the area; visiting other lovely medieval towns such as Dolceacqua. Pigna itself was only a short 25 minute drive to the coast. Visiting Monaco is another must see! The recommended restaurants only added to the amazing experience we had in this area. Thank you so much Ian and Sue, we will definitely recommend a stay here to our family and friends.

Picture perfect Pigna!

Thank you so much Ian and Sue for allowing us to stay in your beautiful holiday home in the delightful medieval village of Pigna. We fell in love with the place the moment we arrived, the tranquility, the views, the weather, the rock pools, the pizza, the coffee.... and the pastries in the local coffee shop, were some of the best I've ever tasted - delicious! The locals are so friendly and welcoming and all the villages around have their own unique feel it really is a magical area to explore. The property has a wonderful outlook and is clean and has everything you need. Unfortunately sky wasn't available during our stay but there are so many DVD's to choose from it wasn't an issue at all. Would we stay again? Most definitely, we'd love to explore some more during the summer months, there is so much to see and do we couldn't fit it all in! Thanks again.

Prepare to be enamoured !!

"Prepare to be enamoured!"We stayed in Ian's place from Sunday to Thursday (end of September – beginning of October). We chose not to get a car rental and instead have a real adventure on public transport – this is so easy! We flew in to Nice Airport (flights were £111 each return) and we got the train from Nice to Ventimiglia (€7 each, one way). Then we were supposed to take a bus from Ventimiglia to Pigna, however, there weren't any buses on a Sunday – so I recommend planning for a cab (€45) or travelling on a weekday. We did take the bus back and it only costs €1.50. When we arrived, Georgia, Ian's friend and housekeeper, met us in the village and took us to the villa. Pigna is very hilly, steep in some places, I'd recommend it to keen walkers or those who are generally fit and well. When we arrived at the villa, we were just blown away. The kitchen looks like it should be in a farmhouse, huge wood burning fire, nice sturdy kitchen table with bench seating, pretty brick work and a real warm, welcoming feel. There was a bottle of wine on the table to welcome us, which was such a nice touch! The feel continued throughout the villa, warmth, cleanliness, everything we needed including hairdryers, a dishwasher, even a couple of paracetamol in the cupboard when I was nursing a sore (red wine) head… we really felt like it was our home. Outside, we were lucky enough to have two private areas, one with seating, a chiminea, a BBQ, and the cutest fairy lights. The other boasts sun loungers and cushions – I didn't expect to be sunbathing in October, but on one day it was 37C in the sun! Scorching! The beds in the upstairs bedrooms were so comfortable and on an evening we spoilt ourselves with total relaxation, watching movies and eating snacks – because we just don't get to do that at home… There was also an abundance of leaflets, travel guides, business cards and even an Italian dictionary in the villa, which, along with Ian's great handwritten guide book, helped us to make the most of our visit. Pigna itself is absolutely beautiful. The views are incredible. I wanted to do so much more than we did (visit Dolceaqua a nearby village for instance), but for those taking a short break, try to do the following as an absolute minimum: 1. Go to a local festival. There is one on pretty much every weekend (we went to the Festival of San Michele, the following week was the Festival of Mushrooms….) if not in Pigna, then in the surrounding villages. We were up dancing t

We love Italy and all things Italian. Before stumbling upon this beautiful area and stunning village, we holidayed all over Italy. We now feel very lucky to be living the Italian dream!

Our charming traditional village house set within the walls of Pigna's historic village centre is the perfect place to relax, experience a slower pace of life and simply enjoy time living in the moment in the peaceful garden surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.

We feel instantly relaxed when we arrive and start to slow down and live as Italians do, enjoying the beautiful things in life, the nearby rivers and rock pools, mountain walks, a hot frothy cappuccino or vino in the local bar and our favorite piping hot pizza.

To ask why we love this area of Italy? the answer is, for us it provides the perfect mix of stunning landscapes and peaceful mountain villages to explore contrasted by the exciting hustle and bustle of the coastline running from France along to Italy.

Everyone is so friendly and will offer help and advice without hesitation, we have made some great friends and you will too!
