Brilliant location to explore cognac and a great place to stay. Host is super helpful and conscientious.
House is amazing and well maintained and equipped. Pool is great and other activities help keep the kids entertained!
Great time was had by all and son is already planning a trip back.
We really enjoyed our stay at the villa, we were celebrating my fathers 90th birthday, the local restaurant was very accommodating and very friendly. We would highly recommend a stay in this lovely villa.
We had a great holiday for our 50th wedding anniversary, with all the family. The pool was in constant use by all and the veranda was a lovely place to sit during the hotter part of the day. The garden was well looked after and a great place for family games. We had a few problems during our stay but they were quickly dealt with by Robert. I would happily visit again.
Beautiful country house, perfect holiday location.
The property is as beautiful as the listing shows. The area is peaceful and calm and Robert the host is so incredibly helpful when answering questions about the house or surronding area.
Would definitely recommend to others, and book again for our next big family holiday.
The house has a collection of activites for those days you do not want to leave the grounds and it worked well for our family group (toddler, teenager and oldies!)
And of course theres the pool 🙂
Local area is beautiful, local people are very friendly. The birds are the loudest thing around the area - bliss!
Our stay at Robert’s house far exceeded our expectations. The house is truly beautiful and it was well equipped for our large party. The pool area was a welcome relief from the heat and the shaded area meant we could use it even at the hottest part of the day. There are many beautiful towns around but the house was so nice we found it hard to leave! Robert was a pleasure to deal with and he made a point of not being intrusive but was always available if we needed him. I would have no hesitation recommending this home and hope to visit again soon.
Robert was a great host, excellent communication throughout. The property itself is stunning and suited our family perfectly. The inside is very grand with lots of space and a great place to cool down. The bedrooms are large with excellent quality bedding.
The pool area is amazing, very clean , tidy and secure. We had a five yr old and she couldn’t open the gate, a bonus when travelling with young children. The restaurant in the village was great fun and very welcoming.
We will be returning next year!! Thanks Rob
We stayed for a week at the villa, with a group made up of six adults and five children agreed between 4 and 8. The place was fab: really well equipped (thank goodness for somewhere that has a properly set up kitchen!) and loads of living space. As parents of small children we were super grateful for good blackout blinds in some rooms and shutters with curtains in others. Lots of bedding too. Lots of space to seat everyone while eating, both indoors and outside. And the kids’ Grandma made good use of the many DVDs in the evening!
The pool was wonderful and the kids happily spent almost everyday there. We took our own inflatables but Robert had supplied pool towels, which was really helpful as we travelled by train so were packing light.
There wasn’t a huge amount to do within walking distance but there was a nice little restaurant in the local village and bakeries within a 5 min drive. A hypermarket within 15 mins drive so we were able to self cater really easily. We took a couple of day trips out towards Cognac (there’s a great kids’ play area and splash park there) but it was so easy to stay at the house and mess around in the pool we really didn’t need to venture far 😊
Robert was incredibly helpful and easy to communicate with.
We’d love to go back next year!
Nombreux sites historiques. Visite des chais de cognac. Angeac. Hennessy.
Très grande piscine sécurisée.
Grand terrain de pétanque
Billard. Baby foot
Cherry on thé cake. Un piano demi queue
Robert le propriétaire est charmant
On va revenir l’an prochain
A really beautiful house, exceptionally well-appointed and maintained. The children in our group ages 8-13 were kept entertained with the pool and games room. Plenty of space for 3 families. Robert was a really excellent host, unobtrusive but very available and responsive. He kindly organised a local babysitter for us. Really lovely restaurant within walking distance and Michelin star restaurant within 30th street drive. Would highly recommend and would definitely return.
This property was not just big enough for our large gathering of friends and family, but the kitchen was well equipped and there was loads of space for everyone to be entertained. There’s a great bakery nearby in Archiac (opposite a Carrefour) so we didn’t have to go too far for essentials and there was lots to see and do in the area. We recommend kayaking down the river to the north.
We have had a superb week where the whole family have enjoyed a wonderful week together. What more do you need than all the property offers for a range of ages to enjoy themselves!
We rented this property for our family of 8 adults and 5 children for a week in August 2022. The property was very nice and clean and had a great garden and secure pool area. Robert was a very accommodating host and I would highly recommend staying here.
We had a lovely time. Beautiful property, loads of room both inside and out. Great pool, shaded areas, table tennis, table football and pool. Perfect for a large family gathering with a wide range in ages from 3 to 75! Robert was also a great host. Very easy check-in and responded quickly to all my questions. Thanks
We are a large family (14 persons) and this is a contender for the best property we have holidayed in. The facilities of the house - space, garden, pool, games room, kitchen, etc, were excellent and catered to every age.
The wildlife is amazing - birds including hoopoes, black kite, black redstart, swifts, swallows, etc. Butterflies and damselflies, bats and lizards, and red squirrel. Highlight may be the hummingbird hawk moth!
It is quite a distance from the beach, but in the heat we were happy to make more use of the large pool.

About the host
Hosted by Robert Barrow
Hi, my name is Robert ( Rob ). After years of renovating houses and interior designing in Britain, my partner and I, bought and renovated this beautiful charentaise " Maison de Maitre" [ Masters house] Being one of six children, we have always had plenty of family and friends staying here with us, and so knowing how well this house accommodates everyones needs, whether old or young, we have decided to rent out the house. I hope you love it as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
The area is stunning. The house is surrounded by fields of vines and sunflowers.
The area boasts the second highest amount of sunshine hours in France, second only to the south coast.
This is a rural setting, with quick and easy access to towns, shops, bistro's and activities, and only an hour from the great beaches of the Atlantic coast and Bordeaux
What makes this property unique
The house is very private with enclosed gardens and separate, enclosed and secure pool area.
The rooms are huge, and because there are lots of different seating areas both inside and out, there is room for everyone to have a little time and space to themselves.
The Covered BBQ area with its large fireplace and seating area is very popular for relaxed evenings.
You can just step outside the gate to enjoy the beautiful countryside either on foot or by bike. We are registered with bike hire direct for any bike hire or accessories. www.bikehiredirect.com
