About this property

19th Century Farmhouse within easy reach of London

One half of a large farmhouse steeped in history with many original features still in place. This is the old servants half of the house but don't worry, the owners who live in the other half, won't be ringing through on the many bells hanging in the hallway, they'll leave you in peace! Whilst the decor looks a bit tired in places, the house is very comfortable and there is so much room and space to explore or sit back and relax in. This half of the house has its own courtyard, outbuilding, walled garden and a shared games room, perfect to enjoy your break.

Great Family Accommodation

Hill Farm provided us with the space for our family to relax and enjoy our UK holiday. Quiet rural setting great views and friendly owners. Close to Lakeside shopping Centre and for transport into London. We made good use of the games room and gardens. The Farm house has good clean reliable amenities and is a real home from home. The description of the property in the ad is accurate so don't expect modern décor. The house is full of history and charm and I would recommend it highly. Cant wait for our next visit would certainly stay again.

Old World Charm

This house is wonderful. It has a quiet charm about it. What it lacks in decor, it gains so much more in it comfort and space and homey feel. We were here for the Christmas period, and the house was warm and cosy. There was 8 in our group and also a baby and we never felt clostraphobic. The games room was a delight for the 17 year olds, there they could play their music loud and play pool and ping pong. The kitchen is slighly small and may benefit from a larger cooker, but with a little imagination it worked for us :-). If I have one bad thing to say it would be that there just needs to be more pots, pans, and crockery, especially with larger groups, but then again, paper plates are just as handy and dont need washing up :-). I would recommend this to anyone who wants a quiet location within easy access to London, Lakeside Shopping etc. There a lovely pub about 3 miles east called the White Horse, and if all you want after a long day is a quiet drink and a hearty meal, then thats the best place we found to eat and there Sunday roast are excellent. There is a pub at the end of the road too, but not as "homely". Overall, an excellent accomodation which we will certainly look at booking again with out a doubt. Thank you.

This is an amazing house, with lots of character, I had a family gathering and everyone was so impressed with it, the owners are very help full.the children big and small all loved the games room, it was a great place for hide and seek as lots of space. Exactly What We Wanted

We usually stay in hotels when we visit friends and family in England, this was becoming more uncomfortable as the kids are getting older. We were absolutely delighted, and couldn't believe our luck, to have found this beautiful house for our last trip to Essex. It was perfect for us. Close to family and friends, only minutes away from the M25 (which is hard to believe when you are at the house) and it suited us for accessing public transport to London etc. I have rated the house 5 stars, which might imply to someone that it should be new and luxurious. This is not the reason I gave the house 5 stars (and I would have rated higher if I could). If you have read the description of the house, it is a perfect description. When we arrived there it was EXACTLY what we were expecting, we were not disappointed at all. While it might lack a new and opulent feel for some people it absolutely makes up for in abundance with the beautiful location, fantastic views out of the windows, extremely comfortable beds and sofa, incredible space, the feeling of home away from home and the pleasure of staying in an old house that you just know is steeped with history. Hence the highest rating of 5 stars. The games room was an added bonus. A lot of time was spent in there. We will most definitely be returning there next year, and we can't wait. We all felt our trip to England this year was our favourite by far, and all agreed it was because we got to stay in this lovely house.
