The cabin was great quiet peaceful. it's just outside a little village that has everything you'll need and a short drive from the local towns. The statue on the hill you can see from the cabin is a deceptively steep walk but worth it
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cabin. The fireplace was a hit as was the location allowing for a lovely walk down Golspie Burn straight from the door as well as having the convenience of shops and cafes close by. Everything was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The kitchen had everything we could need and the beds were very comfortable.
Better than we imagined, We looked forward to returning to the Cabin each night as the peace and quiet was just what we needed. I noted the make and model of the mattresses as I have never slept so well and would love to do so again but maybe the whole cabin experience had something to do with it.
We just had the most amazing autumn break at the cabin.
It had everything we needed and was very welcoming, including beautiful woodland and waterfall walks right from the front door. 😁

Lovely, peaceful location and cozy cabin
We had a lovely few days stay at the cabin. The location is perfect. Peaceful with great views, and the woods were a treat for our children who we lost in them most days! The cabin is very cozy even in February, and we really enjoyed just taking some time to ourselves and relaxing. There is quite a bit to do locally however, and we managed a good few walks and adventures, too. Happily recommend the cabin, and the location, to those looking for a real get away, fresh air and peace.

A first class change of pace with wilderness thrown in for free.
With all the necessities minutes away in Golspie we were amazed at how remote the cabin felt. Just what we wanted. The posted walks are great for families and we found more beautiful scenery heading West. The cabin is well equipped and felt like home from the moment we arrived with the open fire giving a very cosy air. Loved all the games that don't need batteries and we really enjoyed setting our own pace. The owners' preparations made us feel most welcome. We all had a memorable break and will visit again .
Although the property was clean I'm not convinced it was deep cleaned. We went to use the dining table chairs a few hours after we arrived and there was food/crumbs under the chair cushions. These chairs hadn't been cleaned at all. Windows look tired and had hand prints on them. On the whole a great base and location is fantastic, just needs a bit of TLC in my opinion but we did have a great stay.
We were so pleased to find this lovely cabin on VRBO. We've never stayed anywhere like it.
It is tucked away in pretty woodland with great views from big windows towards the sea and local mountain (Ben Bhraggie).
We walked and cycled for miles along beautiful local trails, visited gorgeous beaches and played golf on the wonderful course at Goslpie. My (grown up) son also spent a few good hours reliving his childhood on the tree swing in the cabin garden!
In the evenings we cosied up in front of the big open fire in the living room with books and played cards and chess for the first time in years.
The cabin is really warm, comfortable and cosy. On our arrival it was clean, well presented and a welcome basket of fresh bread/milk/eggs had been left for us on the dining table - a nice touch!
All in all a wonderful place for some proper rest and relaxation after days filled with fresh air and exercise... We will definitely be returning soon!
I think I should start by stating that I’ve visited the Log Cabin since I was 7/8 years old. I now take my nonagenarian parents back and have introduced my own boys, aged 14 and 15.5. A good age spread for a review! My parents love it and of course they’re war children; my kids are generation whatever and seemingly exist attached to their electronic devices. Except they don’t when we’re in Golspie - they’re too busy climbing Ben Braggie, or swimming in the sea, or eagle watching, dolphin watching, hiking, “playing” in Big Burn. We climb Ben Nevis or Ben Hope. We rick climb. We watch the sunset at the end of the world (John O’Groats). Kids eat local beef and fish straight out the sea. As my father taught me, I teach my boys to fly fish, play golf. They eat ice cream. And when it rains (it does that in Scotland) we light a fire and play Monopoly or Risk (we’re boys… sorry Mum). If you want a sauna and all-inclusive 5* accommodation don’t bother; if you want a holiday where you’ll feel alive and glad to be alive then come. It is what it is. Fabulous. Frankly I’d rather less people knew about this slice of heaven. I’m biased you say? Absolutely! I’ve been all over the world in 5 star hotels and this is unquestionably my favourite holiday. The best thing? It’s now my boys’ favourite too and that’s not indoctrination. Don’t bother trying to book the last 2 weeks August … I’m afraid I’ve reserved them until I’m pushing up daisies; I suspect you’ll have to contend with my boys then!
Avoid this cabin if you have any sort of allergy/sensitivity to damp/mould etc. We do. Partner couldn't sleep in double bedroom, could all smell damp especially in there. Daughter said was ok, slept in there - was ill by the time we left, miraculously better as soon as we were home.
Also if you have any allergy/sensitivity to being treated like an idiot. Apparently it is 'luxury accommodation' I should have gone for if I didn't enjoy stained bedding. Dog hair encrusted washing machines. Grubby cushions. Dirty cutlery and kitchenware. Broken heaters. No coal in bunker. Not enough mugs and what was there stained/chipped. Hoover full to bursting. Balcony messy when arrived, broken lighter and soggy dog poo bag.
I didn't mind most of the issues, if it was only a few things I wouldn't have minded, we were expecting basic and simple, but by the end it was getting ridiculous. Was trying our best to just enjoy our break. Was the dirty bedding at the end and being ill and damp smell that topped it off. Owner helpful and apologetic at first. Then didn't respond for weeks when he said he would after going to check out the property. Said had issues before with cleanliness as can't keep on top of it living so far away. We tried to be nice and helpful about it all at first but after being ignored, got annoyed, got hugely patronising response completely discounting our concerns and the many issues we had.
I don't appreciate spending almost £700 to stay in a place that is grubby and damp. Apparently I should be grateful for the experience.
Not as secluded as hoped, not overlooked, but to be clear there are neighbours just through the trees. Also, when you take out the rubbish the house across the road from you has very aggressive dogs barking at you behind a very flimsy fence. Bit intimidating for the children.
Be aware of many ticks also.
Only sofas enough for 4 people round fire.
I understand lots of people don't notice damp/smells the same. Unfortunately having lived and worked in damp buildings my partner and I, and our eldest are now very sensitive to these unhealthy environments. My partner especially can tell the moment he walks into a place - gets itchy eyes and throat.
Avoid. People happy to take your money but don't want to make amends when things go wrong. Don't think you should ever have to spend this long reporting problems that should not have been there in the first place, this for a supposed relaxing break. Disgusting attitude.
großartige Lage in phantastischer Landschaft, charmante Hütte
Muss man wissen.
Great cabin in the woods with a open fire for those cold evenings, lovely area with great views through the woods. Also Mark Scott, very helpful at resolving any issues we had. Would happily stay again.
The lodge was clean and well equipped in a beautiful setting. Our children loved exploring and the local beaches. Was a lovely place to completely relax.
Check out times were changed and different from what the app stated so just check that.
The cabin suited our needs well and was clean and ready for our arrival. Lovely surrounding garden and woods for the children to have freedom near at hand and good location for exploring surrounding area.
Nice and easy check in, the property has a lovely homely feel to it and we love the familial aspect of it! We did a few of the recommended walks such as down to dunrobin castle and back and the burns fall with our 4&7 year old boys. The boys loved bird watching, chatting to the local farmer and feeding his chickens and pigs and exploring the beaches. Just note not a lot of restaurants etc local if you are looking to dine out regularly.
Even wennen in het begin.
in a beautiful, peaceful woodland with fantastic scenery and outstanding views of the sea and hills. Despite the tranquility, it is amazingly close to Golspie and has brilliant walks straight from the door allowing you to be car free. The midges could be a real pest- so take big spray! The interior of the cabin is homely and relaxing and you feel as if you are truly in the middle of nowhere. The kids loved playing in and exploring the woodland. A fantastic, relaxing holiday was had by all. We did lots of amazing walks and were lucky with the weather. Thank you Log Cabin and hope to be back soon.
This well-loved, snug, cosy property is in an ideal location. It feels isolated and has a great view but within walking distance there is a magnificent burn and waterfall walk which takes you to Golspie which is on the coast! Dunrobin castle and the Loch Fleet nature reserve are also only a 5/10 minute drive so there is everything you could wish for immediately to hand. The cabin is lovely and warm (despite the windows looking slightly past their best), and whilst there is admittedly more to do in areas such as Speyside, it also means it is much busier (although still far less busy than where we live in Colchester). For a 'getaway from it all' holiday this was a perfect 2 week holiday for me and my husband. I feel sure we shall return, thank you ' El Cabino'.
Good break and chance to relax in quiet surroundings.

A chilly week in a lovely place
A comfortable, clean, well-decorated and provisioned cabin in a beautiful setting.
Also nice and warm on a week that had suddenly turned very chilly.
Very easy to get out and about and explore the area.

Nice an well equipped forest cottage
We had lovely hollidays within this cottage. Well equiped and there are many possiblities for trips in the area.
The only one thing which was not so good was the cleaning condition. As somebody said it before, it needs a deep clean at all. Questions or problems were answered/ solved as fast as lightning. Thanks to the nice owners Mark and Kate an Myra the housekeeper, too.
Gladly Again!

About the host
Hosted by Mark Scott
My Name is Mark Scott. The Log Cabin was built by my Father Michael in 1974 and has been our family holiday home ever since. I run the bookings for the Cabin on behalf of my brother David and my sisters Claire and Serena. We all love the place and holiday there regularly with our own families and friends. We pride ourselves in this being a small family venture, not a large commercial enterprise and we keep the Cabin looking warm and homely, not empty and stark like many holiday cottages. The place has bags of character and many people have been returning to holiday there for years, drawn back by its individual character and charm. If you make a booking you will deal with me directly, not a call centre or an appointed agent.
Why they chose this property
My family has a long and happy association with Dunrobin Estate and as children we were all born and grew up in Sutherland. It is a beautiful area of Scotland, wild and remote with clean air and stunning mountain/coastal scenery. It is also extremely peaceful and unspoilt and one of the few places that I feel I can truly 'get away from it all'. I always return from a holiday there feeling refreshed and invigorated by having been so close to nature and so far removed from the pressures and demands of normal, hectic, everyday life.
What makes this property unique
Relax in a truly unique and very homely Cabin, with lovely views out into surrounding woodland and beyond to the sea and nearby hills. The Cabin is stand-alone and not overlooked by any other property. It has a pretty, semi-wild garden and secluded south facing patio on which to relax in nice weather. The large open fire in the living room is a great draw on cooler days and for evenings in front of the TV, reading a book or playing board games. Roe deer often stroll into our woodland and many sea birds and birds of prey can be spotted from the garden or through the large windows. There are numerous beautiful walks and (mountain) bike rides straight from the Cabin door over hill top or past dramatic waterfalls and down onto wide sandy beaches. And then there are the amazing golf courses..!
