La Cure is situated at the end of a 230metre lane off a quiet country road. It is surrounded by farm land containing many mature trees and the 'bocage' or 'banks' surrounding the fields for which this area is famous. It is ideal for a couple wanting to get away from it all and unwind. It is just 10 minutes from the popular market town of Gavray with its supermarket, shops, banks and restaurants. The cathedral town of Coutances and the copperware tourist town of Villedieu les Poeles can be reached in 20 mins. Perfectly situated for days out at the Mont St Michel, St Malo, Bayeux and D-Day Beaches etc.

A gem of a gite. In peaceful surroundings. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped.
A lovely warm welcome from the owners Roger and Mary. Well placed for visits to the coast and many places of interest.
Absolutely first class gite. So clean and a very restful location. Handy for so many places of interest. Hosts, Roger and Mary very helpful and informative.
The welcome pack was very thoughtful and useful. All in all highly recommend this gite.
Lovely upstairs apartment, comfortable and very well equipped, with good parking and outside seating in a separate area of garden. Close to Hambye which is a pleasant village, with one of the best boulangerie / patisseries we've ever come across. Lots of local interest. We recommend the Abbaye de Hambye close by and Coutances and the Mont St Michel not too long drives.
We stayed here for a week in September. Roger and Mary are considerate hosts. Communication was very good before and at arrival. The gite is well equipped and a good size. It is in a quiet location in the midst of lovely countryside that is home to picturesque towns and villages. Within striking distance of the coast directly west and north. We enjoyed our stay.
Wonderful gite with everything you need to live in the French countryside. Totally relaxing with comfy bed and furniture. A great base for both coasts and lovely little French towns with genuinely welcoming locals. Lots of leisurely days out in the local area - but not for party animals! The hosts were so welcoming and kind, we were totally at ease. A masterclass in how to host a gite. Thank you.
A lonely place in the middle of green and nature. A spot from where to discover this part of the earth.Trips to the world of gothic abbeys and cathedrals, beaches with great historic importance, beaches to walk along and collect what the waves carried along, water to lie in and watch the sky and the clouds moving on, moving on.
And wonderful hosts!
A good decision, yes.
Lovely, well equipped property in a peaceful location set back from the road up a lengthy drive. Roger & Mary were the perfect hosts who were friendly & helpful yet inobtrusive. The property is very well located and acted as an excellent base to explore the surrounding area and slightly further, but more than reachable D Day beaches. The gite more than met our needs with both comfort and expectation & our hosts had created a tasteful and really well equipped home with a comfortable bed and excellent range of facilities for those wishing to cater for themselves. This included a picturesque outside seating area and private garden. We would highly recommend a stay at Roger and Mary's property and would not hesitate to book again when visiting the area in the future.
Thank you both.
If you are wanting a holiday in a wonderful location in a beautiful gite then go no further. Rog and Mary are truly excellent hosts with information and advice before you even set off and while you are there. They are around if you require again for advice and have great knowledge of the area. They made our stay even better with being awesome hosts. We will never forget them and hope to return soon. Marvellous warm and generous couple. Thank you Phil & Cat

About the host
Hosted by Roger Shipway
Hi,
My wife, Mary and I, originally from Somerset, have retired to Normandy with our little collie cross, Nellie. We live on site and will be happy to provide as much or as little help as you require. So, if you know France and/or do not require any assistance during your stay we will extend a cheery wave and respect your privacy. If you are new to France or even travelling abroad for the first time we will be happy to provide all the support you need.
Why they chose this property
Prior to settling in Normandy we travelled extensively in Europe for several years in a motorhome. We made many friends and a lot of them had settled in this region of France. When we came to visit them we fell in love with the countryside. It is very similar to our home county of Somerset but much quieter with miles of near empty roads and beaches. We take the dog to the beach nearly every day, where she wears herself out galloping around the dunes and into the surf. The beach and salt marshes also offer bird watching opportunities and a chance to see race horses exercising. The farming of mussels and oysters can be seen from the dunes. With endless beaches and blue sea it is a wonderful place to take a picnic and relax for a few hours.
What makes this property unique
Although we are in a very rural situation, our house has fields on all four sides, you can be in several villages within minutes and a few large towns in 30 minutes, more or less, depending how fast you drive! Due to this rural aspect and lack of nearby lights we have a spectacular view of the sky at night. Bring your binoculars, sit in the garden after dark and be prepared to be amazed by the clear view of millions of stars and constellations.
