Fantastic hosts
We had an excellent week at Les Niches. Lovely pool and garden and a really cosy upstairs lounge.
Ricky and Marie ( in the neighbouring farmhouse) were excellent hosts and were helpful for all things French.

Home from Home in the Sun
We had a great family holiday in a beautiful part of France which was made all the more special by the fabulous accommodation, with everything you could possibly need, and the lovely owners Rickie & Marie who live next door and have a vast knowledge of things to do and places to visit and made us very welcome. The welcome pack is exceptional including all essential shopping & wine to help settle in. We are a family with 4 young boys who really enjoyed the pool and open space and the location is ideal for visiting the beautiful villages of the Dordogne. I would highly recommend 'Les Niche' for a fabulous family holiday.

Terrific Holiday
Les Niches is beautifully appointed, because Ricky and Marie work so hard to make sure that everything is to hand. There is no settling-in phase - ask where anything is, what's on where, or where to go, and they have the answers - and the welcome pack is the most comprehensive! We had friends with us for a week, and then our son, partner, and 8-month-old granddaughter helped us enjoy the cosy living, the swimming pool, and the lazing about in the evenings. A perfect base for visiting historic Bergerac, impressive markets, and nearby bastides. Altogether a great holiday in a friendly, relaxing part of France.
Fantastic property, beautiful location unspoilt by ‘tourists’ and with excellent hosts. We left feeling like we had made some friends. Would love to return

Beautiful barn conversion with upstairs lounge to enjoy the views.
We had a lovely time in Cunèges. Our hosts were very welcoming and very interesting! They were there if we needed them but didn’t intrude unnecessarily. The barn conversion was perfect for the four of us, plenty of space and everything we needed was on hand. We didn’t use the pool as the weather wasn’t warm enough to heat the water but it looked very inviting. It is just the right area to have plenty of good places to visit and we visited somewhere every day.
Thank you to Ricky and Marie for a lovely stay.

Les Niches is a beautiful, individual, well equipped barn conversion. In a great location for visiting the Dordogne, the wonderful wine region, and the exquisite Bastide Villages. The local nature including nesting Kestrels were amazing. Ricky and Marie are excellent hosts. Well informed, helpful and extremely welcoming but giving you enough privacy for just relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. All in all it's one of our favourite places. We stayed here last year and decided to come back this year, and we will return again. It's a little slice of paradise. Thank you.

Perfect Dordogne Getaway near Bergerac
We had a fabulous long weekend at Les Niches which is a very comfortable, well run 3 bedroom gite. The owners who live next door could not have been more welcoming and knowledgable about the local area. We had a splendid time visiting a different market every day and the Chateaux at Duras and Montbazillac. We would highly recommend a stay at Les Niches! Flew on Flybe from Southampton to Bergerac which I would highly recommend too.

I cannot image a more wonderful place to stay
Absolutely everything about this property is first class. The gite is beautiful, immaculate, and in a wonderful location. The swimming pool and surrounding gardens are just a joy. However, the best thing of all about Les Niches has to be the owners, Ricky and Marie. By good luck the weather was lovely, but , quite honestly I feel that the sun will shine for everyone when they are around.

We have spent a very happy week in this tranquil, pretty and comfortable house. The hosts are very kind and attentive, adding to what is already a near perfect experience. It is an ideal base from which to explore the plethora of Bergerac vineyards.

Perfect, exactly as shown. Comfortable and with everything you might need.
Beautifully presented and pristine clean. Easy to find, with the help of a wizened neighbour. Ricky and Marie made every effort to make our stay completely faultless and a joy from start to finish. A family holiday that ticked all our boxes.

10 star experience!
Well what can I say that hasn’t already been said in these wonderful reviews! It is all true as Les Niches is in a wonderful location and we had one of the best holidays ever! This was my 8 year old son’s first “proper” holiday and he actually cried when it was time to leave and couldn’t understand why he couldn’t go and live with “his mate” Rickie and Marie.
The hosts are genuinely lovely people and nothing is too much trouble and their knowledge of the area is excellent. On their recommendation, we went to Chateau Bridoire which I suggest anyone with children should visit. They have loads of outside old fashioned games to play and knights helmets etc ,which my son loved.
The barn is home from home with excellent facilities and very comfortable. The pool is also a very good size and well maintained with an enclosed area in case it is too hot. A week was definitely too short!
Thanks again to Rickie and Marie (and Mannon and Fleur!) and a very special thank you from Seb who is already talking about his holiday next year! I wish I could give you 10 stars not just 5! Claire, Leon & Seb

Relaxing, luxurious, charming
We have returned to Les Niches 3 years running now, as it is such an exceptional gîte, and have taken family and friends with us.
It is a truly beautiful spot and especially well equipped; more than one would reasonably need on holiday. Rickie and Marie were friendly and very welcoming, and had provided a magnificent welcome pack. Certainly it was beyond our normal expectations of a holiday gîte!

Les Niches is a little bit of paradise. A unique and wonderful home from home with individual touches that make it very special indeed. It's in a beautiful and convenient location. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere yet only 20 minutes from Bergerac Airport. And near to many of the most beautiful Bastide towns. There's a convenient supermarket and petrol station only five minutes drive away. The gorgeous converted barn is well appointed with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and a well-stocked kitchen. The welcome pack was very generous and much appreciated (especially the wine, thank you). There are lots of books and games, plus DVDs and English TV (not that we had any desire to watch it). And a gorgeous pool (towels provided) in a very pleasant setting.
Ricky and Marie, the owners, are just fantastic. They live in the main house next door and are really helpful and welcoming but not at all intrusive. Their local knowledge is invaluable. And their warm and friendly nature made us feel even more welcome.
We have stayed in many places in France and this is one of the very best. You, like us, may feel far too relaxed to even venture out (though there's plenty of inspiring countryside and historic places to visit). We also spent many a happy evening watching the sunset - and the impressive thunderstorms - from the tranquil garden and from the first floor sitting room.
Perfection.
We can't wait to return. For longer. Much longer!

We found our Niche in life
We really had an excellent stay at Les Niches. Excellent welcome pack, wonderful on site owners, nothing too much for them. The barn is in an excellent position for touring this part of the Dordogne and we now know where we should have moved to years ago. For a change from driving, take the train from nearby Gardonne to Bordeaux, just make sure it isn't raining.

Missing it already!
We had a lovely stay in this home from home property.
The house was very comfortable and well equipped, we loved the pool and huge garden - kids were in their element! Lots of lazy evenings with the barbecue and local vino! The upstairs lounge was very cosy.
We all found the place so relaxng and peaceful yet there was lots of fun things to do within a short drive away . Loads of great markets, Monbazillac Chateaux, spent a very nice day canoeing at Gardonne. Eymet was a beautiful town.
The owners next door were delightful, so warm and welcoming and so helpful with tips and information. The welcome pack they gave us was very generous and appreciated! We miss them and their lovely cat!
Thank you for a lovely week.

Excellent base for visiting Bergerac area.
A well appointed barn conversion with pool, a very relaxing place to stay with excellent hosts who are friendly, very helpful and knowledgeable. Local area interesting with vineyards of Bordeaux not too far away. Local food excellent, especially the Grappe d'Or restaurant about 8km away. Would definiteley recommend to friends & family. Bergerac airport 20 mins away, so no long or tiring journey to worry about.

Go there!
Our hopes that our flight home had been cancelled and we would be forced to stay on here, sadly came to nothing. From the helpful "how-to-find-us" email, to the warmth of the welcome, the style and elegance of the conversion, and the always-available help with places to see/eat in/etc, everything about this place is 5-star. Immaculate throughout. The location is off a very minor road and very peaceful; the kitchen is well equipped (though there are so many places to eat, we scarcely used it); the area around seems to be one huge vineyard and Bergerac itself is an unspoiled delight. Same could be said of the local villages. TWO things not to miss: the Sunday markets which take over whole villages and the Michelin-starred restaurant La Tour des Vents outside Montbazilllac Spectacular! Enjoy!

Absolutely stunning was like being home from home
A furnished fairy tale property for a romantic couple or large family, this property can cater, surrounded by vine yards and only 15 mins from Bergerac airport. Great hosts live close should you have any questions etc... Swimming pool was big but too cold for us this time. Great for a little weekend or a longer stay. We both loved it.
Thank you

A wonderful country vacation
We stayed here with another couple and enjoyed ourselves very much. The converted barn is comfortable and has plenty of room. It is well-equipped and furnished. The owners are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Meeting them was one of high points of our vacation. The property is well-located for visiting the bastides and castles of the region - and, of course, the many wineries. The village is very small, but shops and markets are in the nearby towns. The property is quiet, surrounded by farms and vineyards. After a busy day of sightseeing, it was pleasant to swim in the pool and stretch out in the lounge chairs. We would love to go back, and would heartily recommend it to friends.

About the host
Hosted by Quentin Tailford
My parents, Ricky and Marie, have lived in the Farmhouse next door to Les Niches since 1999 and we converted the barn into Les Niches in 2004 - discovering in the process it was originally a monastic building. Mum and dad still live "next door" in the Farmhouse and run Les Niches for us, always on hand when required to ensure guests have a superb holiday and get the full benefit of the joys of this wonderful area. Mum is a fluent French speaker and dad gesticulates a lot!
Why they chose this property
The escarpment on the South side of the Dordogne is reminiscent of The Cotswolds; with rolling hills, golden stone properties, friendly people and stunning villages and views. It is the Cotswolds with sunshine, sunflowers and vineyards. If you love open spaces, idyllic villages, great food and wine, the artisan culture, and a stunning refuge from the day to day madness, then Les Niches is just right for you. Whilst there is plenty to see and do I would warn you that you may end up spending your days lying poolside soaking up the peace and tranquility of Les Niches. Enjoy!
What makes this property unique
3 bedrooms - 3 bathrooms - sleeps 6. Sunny upstairs lounge with lovely views. Fully equipped kitchen and separate dining room. Washing machine and dishwasher. Satellite TV. Broadband Internet access (if required!). Exclusive use of Private pool (10m x 5m - salt water so low chlorine). Large grassy garden with private patio area & BBQ. Boules set and other activities. Welcome pack on arrival (food and essentials). 20 Minutes to Bergerac Airport - free collection/drop off if required. Managing hosts live next door if needed.
