Property in a great location but extremely damp and smelly. There was mould around the bathroom and the shower holder was broken - to add to this the tap was also missing parts and there were cob webs and large amounts of dust in most rooms. The top of one of the bedroom cupboards had old occupants shoes/socks on and was thick with dust. To make the stay bearable we had to spend money on candles and keep them lit all week.
We had a lovely week at Carbines, the cottage is a perfect base for exploring St Ives and North Cornwall - ideal for all of the local beaches (Portgwidden is our fav) and two minutes from the heart of the town & harbour. (It’s also two minutes from a local CO-OP store which is a bonus.) We chose to pre-book parking at the Rugby Club, to avoid wasting time looking for spaces around town - a great decision, being just ten minutes-walk from Wesley Place.
All of the main living spaces in the cottage are lovely and comfortable, suiting our family perfectly: the open plan set up is ideal and the kitchen/diner the centre of most of time indoors. In the lounge, the sofas are both a good size and comfortable and the smart TV, DVD, and fast Wi-Fi are all great for film night in on (an unusual) wet evening. We booked particularly because of the added bonus of a games room in the basement with pinball and Bar-football - great for a family competition. Upstairs the bedrooms are all a good size, light and airy with comfortable beds.
All booking and pre-arrival communications were prompt and clear, and a couple of minor issues we raised on arrival were swiftly dealt with - much appreciated.
The cottage was convenient to town. A short walk to the high street and harbor. Parking is a problem all over St. Ives, must pay for parking in a lot and walk into or take a bus to the house. The one bathroom is on the main floor, three bedrooms on the second floor up a steep staircase. Well equipped kitchen, but bring your own paper towels, plastic trash bags and dishwasher soap. Also bring toilet paper as one one roll was provided. We had one maintenance issue and it was taken care of immediately. Correspondence with owner was very good. The boys loved the game room, well equipped, but it was a bit musty smelling. All in all, a nice basic rental.
Brilliant cottage beautiful new kitchen, loads of equipment and plenty for the kids to do - can't recommend enough.

Comfortable Home in the Heart of St Ives
This house has a nice feel to it the moment you walk through the door; it is light and airy. The dining kitchen is a lovely space, big and bright and very well appointed. Upstairs there are 3 large bedrooms, a double, twin and bunk. The double bed that we slept in was very comfortable. The downstairs bathroom is again bright and clean and with hot water on demand both bath and shower are welcome after a day walking the coast path. There are nice pictures hanging throughout the house making it feel like home. Being so close to the shops, restaurants, harbour and beaches makes access on foot very easy. Our host, Jon, was very helpful and quick to respond to our enquires.
We can thoroughly recommend this house and hope to return ourselves one day

Well situated for all amenities
We were 4 adults and two kids and the property was spacious for us all.
It is well stocked with lots of beach accessories which may be needed during your stay which are in the handy outbuilding where you can rinse off when you get back from the beach. Down in the basement are lots of board games and there is a good selection of dvd's for wetter days. The property is well placed for shops pubs beaches and restaurants.
If you've been to St Ives before you will know that parking is difficult. We paid for a rover ticket which allows parking in many council but not all long stay car parks in Cornwall. The nearest to this property is up a steep walk which is a five minute walk. When no space available in this car park we parked in the park and ride Trenwith car park, the bus stop is just round the corner from the property. You can pull up to the property to load and unload and while we were there we often saw cars parked overnight, but we also saw a parking attendant who informed us that he regularly handed out tickets to people, so beware!
During our visit we had a problem with the drain, we contacted the owner who contacted the local agent who came and sorted the next day.
During our stay we loved walking down in the evening to the harbour spotting the seals and one evening we spotted a pod of dolphins crossing the harbour which was an unexpected bonus.

The property was mostly clean, comfortable enough for our needs.
The property is in a great location to enjoy all St Ives has to offer. It is a few minutes walk from the town and long stay car parks. There is an excellent Co-op and Chippy a couple of minutes away. The property was comfortable and mostly clean. It would benefit from a few more homely features and, for example, a welcome pack.

The property was lovely, had everything we could have needed in a great location.
A group of us visited St Ives and stayed at this property over a mini-surf break. It was awesome, we had a lot of laughs in the games basement downstairs, and it was a perfect location to access most of the things we wanted to do in St Ives. The surf was reliably rubbish, but that's to be expected.

Our excellent adventure to St Ives
We returned to St Ives after honeymooning there nearly 40 years ago and it was great to be back. The cottage is comfortable, roomy and spotless which is a must for us. It is also only a short walk down into the centre of St Ives. We are not night owls so it was good to be able to sit on an evening and watch a DVD from the good selection provided. We ate at several restaurants and our favourite by far was the Tex Mex opposite the bus stop. But make sure you book a table first as it is very popular. Lovely stay in a lovely environment.

Very comfortable
Lovely cottage which we found to be comfortable with everything we needed. Loved its location which was within easy walking distance to all the beaches and St Ives main centre. The games room was a huge hit with the children and kept them entertained. Would definitely book again in the future and Highly recommend.

About the host
Hosted by Jon Rolfe
We currently live and work in Bristol but would love to live full-time in Cornwall one day. Until then, we hope you enjoy our house in St Ives as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
We chose a house in St Ives because it has many of the things that we love: a choice of beaches, each with their own characteristics and all within a short walk of each other, a wide range of places to eat including some outstanding restaurants and good art galleries.
From our house you can walk to any of 4 sandy beaches in under 10 minutes (we provide routes that avoid the hills!) ranging from calm and family-friendly to a great surfing beach.
What makes this property unique
Our basement playroom helps to keep the family entertained during bad weather. Complete with books, toys and games, it's also a good place to send the kids when you want a little time to yourself.
The vibrant centre of St Ives is right on the doorstep.
