The home that we were offered was comfortable, charming, and beautiful. It was what we needed at our time of grief for the reasons that we were there. Cannot thank the host for letting us be there.
This property is beautiful inside and out - peaceful with wonderful swimming and kayaking.

It's all about the lake
Spofford Lake is spectacular..The water is clear and warm and there are only a few power boats so the kayaking (we brought our own) was excellent..we circumnavigated the entire lake..Saw a coupla loons..The view from the outside deck and dock is fabulous..We had some family from the area visit twice and the 3 little ones enjoyed the water immensely..The traffic on North Shore Rd is relatively light so an evening to walk and gawk was very pleasant..There is a 9 hole golf course within a mile but IF you are a golfer I'd recommend the 20 minute drive to Bretwood Golf Course in Keene..Unfortunately, the house itself was a disappointment for the price..The climb down and up from the parking area to the house is, in a word, hazardous..We arrived after a heavy rain and the rocks, hemlock needles and couple of wooden rails were slick..the steepness cries out for stairs..(this was mentioned in the listing).. Read the listing closely..You will NOT see a dishwasher nor a washer and dryer. The coffeemaker is a Keurig - so bring Keurig pods. Not much counter space in the kitchen.. Renters are required to bring their trash to the dump and bring their own linens..The loft would be great for kids - but we opted out of climbing a 10 step wooden ladder placed at an 80 degree angle to watch the only TV in the cottage.. The one and a half bathrooms were clean but poorly lit and underwhelming- one felt unfinished without a towel bar or rack..The marvelous views of the lake from the inside were marred by the condensation and haze that were on the windows that faced the lake..The seal of the double paned windows has been compromised..The BBQ grill had not been cleaned and was a greasy, food crusted mess..The attached propane tank was empty though there was a second tank that I switched over..Overall, a disappointment for the price we paid..IF you are interested in renting this property, you are paying for the lake..

Beautiful views of lake from large deck and from the living /dining great room. Bedrooms are nice size, loft is huge. Parking for 4 cars about 15 steps above the house. Be aware that you must bring the garbage and recycling to the town dump about 5 miles away and that they are not open all days of the week. Overall a wonderful location and house.

Life as it should be
The property is clean and modern with nice touches such as a wine cooler and a nice barbecue grill and kayaks and canoe in the shed. Sleeps eight, though only two rooms are private, so four people get little privacy, if they are the kids that is good. We were seven. It is a smallish space, but was plenty of space, we are a bit informal and all family and we worked together well. We treated the outside deck as sort of second living/dining room, and if you do that, the space is large and beautiful. It was really a challenge to find the parking space, but once we located it, that worked well also. One does have to navigate a tricky staircase from car to the house out of the parking lot. Two of our number were in their seventies, and they did manage it; they are in excellent health. We appreciated the considerate manner in which the owners had made things convenient.
