About this property

THE LOFT Modernised fisherman's cottage in old St Ives, Cornwall

The Loft is a 2 bedroom refurbished cottage, sleeping 4 people in one double/one twin bedrooms.

Situated in the old fishing quarter and conservation area of Downalong, the very heart of old St Ives full of twisting turning narrow streets scattered with many art galleries, great restaurants and fascinating architecture, completely enclosed by the harbour and surrounding sandy beaches.

The perfect location for surfing or lounging on the beach (Porthmeor beach is just 1 minute on foot), visiting galleries (the Tate is less than 2 minutes away) or for exploring St Ives (harbour, shops, restaurants, pubs all just steps away).

The upstairs living area has light and spacious kitchen/dining/living space and benefits from a small patio just off the kitchen, catching the sun for the best part of the day. For those colder evenings the gas log burning stove makes things nice and cosy!

Bookings are weekly Friday to Friday during peak periods.
Short breaks 3 nights+ available out of season.

Perfect location in the heart of St Ives

A lovely property. Beautifully presented and very well equiped, clean and very comfortable. The terrace is a real sun trap. We loved it and will definitely be returning

It's a lovely cottage with excellent attention to detail and best of all is the location

The whole experience was great, to be able to just pop a wetsuit on and nip over the road enables you to get the best out of St Ives whatever the weather. St Ives was a lot busier than I remember so I would recommend booking restaurants before you visit.

beautiful cottage in the heart of St Ives

The cottage is very well equipped and maintained and very centrally situated so convenient for shops, restaurants, beaches and art galleries. The outside space although tiny is a real bonus ( though watch out for seagulls keen to swoop on your food). Although St Ives is busy it is very easy to get away from the crowds and we had some lovely walks along the coast and up to the old tin mines nearby.

Perfect location, lovely cottage.

We were beaming when we first got inside the Loft, it really is a lovely space for a holiday. The location is fantastic, no more than 20 metres from Porthmeor beach and perhaps 50 metres to the harbour - it really couldn't be better. There are two great bedrooms downstairs (and great beds too) together with a excellent shower. Upstairs is a big open plan space with a little terrace off of the kitchen. It's incredibly well equipped, everything feeling fresh and modern, and just a light open space to live in for a holiday. In the busy narrow streets of St Ives it's a miracle that somewhere can both be so well situated and so quiet. We'll be back to St Ives and The Loft will be our first choice.

Comfortable and stylish haven

The Loft is a beautiful stylish property with a wonderfully cosy atmosphere. The house is close to everything and yet a very private and secluded place to rest after the activities of the day.

The Loft Review

The Loft is full of character, sympathetically modernised with all mod-cons. I particularly liked the upstairs space and was most impressed with the care taken to provide information about everything in the accommodation and the attention to detail in the provision of kitchen utensils and supplies, with plentiful cleaning equipment. There was plenty of storage in the bedrooms and the shower room was excellent. The listing description was accurate and the property was clean and well maintained. The owners provided excellent customer service and I would recommend this property to friends and family. It was close to local amenities and fantastic restaurants. The Seafood Cafe was wonderful as was the Rajpoot Indian restaurant. We had a scenic drive along the coast to St Just which was stunning.

Simply wonderful!

It was a blast to return to The Loft - it felt like coming home, in fact! Alan, Sharon and Sue make it easy to feel at home, though. The welcoming touches you see and feel throughout the property just add to everything else, like the wonderful interior and excellent location! We look forward to coming back again soon. Thanks for everything, to everyone at SO ST IVES! Karin & Astrid, Zurich, Switzerland April 27th to May 20th, 2018

Excellent property

The Loft is in a great location with easy access to shops, pubs, restaurants and beaches. The property was well equipped to a high standard and felt like home from home. Our stay coincided with the coldest week of the winter, so the heating was very welcome with the added bonus of the log burner. Due to the snow we were unable to travel back when scheduled, Alan responded promptly to our email and kindly agreed we could stay an extra night. Overall, we would definitely recommend The Loft and we hope to return in the near future.

A Charming Cottage

It is a little tricky to choose a vacation cottage, but in addition, we live in Los Angeles and did not know the area at all. So it was a "shot in the dark" decision. Fortunately for us, it was a very happy decision. The cottage is conveniently located for shopping, food, restaurants, walking to the beaches. Simply step out the door and within a few steps is the town. Plus, it is charming and cozy inside with everything necessary for a home away from home. The decorated Christmas tree was a lovely touch to give the cottage a homey feel. We loved the fireplace as it was very welcoming after a day out in the chilly weather. I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

One of the nicest places in St. Ives !

The owner of this property (Alan) is the best ! He has a beautiful apartment in the most convenient part of St. Ives. We stayed two weeks. We could walk to train and bus stations (we didn’t rent a car at all-came via train from London), all the shops, many great restaurants, all the beaches, etc. The apartment had everything we could possibly need. We cooked some and ate out some, loved the wonderful gas fireplace which was so relaxing to sit in front of after full days of sightseeing, and found the beds to be comfortable and the shower just as you’d wish-large with plenty of hot water. We traveled lightly with just small bags & used the washing machine to clean the few items of clothing we brought. I emailed Alan several times while we were there with questions about placing local calls, how to get to St. Isaac (“Doc Martin” area) on public transportation, etc. Amazingly he relied to every email within minutes and was extremely helpful to us ! We never met him, but his being available via email was comforting and ironed out any little kinks we ran into. I would most definitely rent Alan’s great Loft again when I return to Cornwall.

Lovely place to stay

I would definately recommend The Loft as a place to stay- the location was great. A 2 minute walk to the beach, and 1 minute walk to the lovely shops and restaurants/ cafes of St Ives. The cottage is really comfortable. It has been beautifully renovated and has a lovely clean modern feel to it- and it was roomy enough for our family of 2 adults and 2 teenage children. We would love to return for another holiday based at The Loft. Thank you.

Fantastic

From the start of our stay the host Alan and his wife made us feel welcome with a bottle of wine and welcome card & gift, a lovely touch, the Loft is a gem, i would really like to live there as its so well designed and beautifully kept, and right in the heart of St Ives, St Ives itself is amazing with its narrow cobbled streets lovely shops and restaurants and great harbour,Another great place is the Sloop Inn, sit outside have a glass or two of Rattlers and watch the world go by.. We will be booking again and thank you again for such a beautiful place to stay Steve & Dawn

Lovely - well positioned (central St Ives), cosy, well decorated, superb utilities and just cool

It's a lovely property and well decorated and has all the facilities for a great holiday. It's cool, open plan and contemporary. Perfect place to relax if the weather is rubbish or an ideal base for the beach or coastal walks. I spent hours on the balcony drinking a G&T in the sunshine and then lit the fire in the evenings - my idea of perfection. Id highly recommend this property and I'll certainly be returning. It's light, airy, modern, cool and comfortable which ticks most boxes and it has everything you require for self catering.

Faultless

The cottage is in a perfect location, tucked away from the main hustle and bustle but within a couple of minutes walk of everything St Ives has to offer. Very well equipped accommodation with everything you could possibly need from tea & coffee to Cider & biscuits! Really can't fault the place and am in the process of booking again. Highly recommended.

Very beautiful home

None of us have every stayed in such a lovely house. It had a cosy and homely feel with an added touch of luxury. We put the fire on most evenings which was perfect for the stormy evenings. The beds are very comfortable and it is in a perfect central location. Would recommend this holiday home to anybody...we wish we didn't have to leave.

Just Awesome ! Perfectly placed Cozy but spacious

This cottage was perfectly placed in the centre of town. Feels a little cozy downstairs in the bedrooms and bathroom, but upstairs is just awesome. Lots of daylight flooding in, can shut the blinds and with the magical log effect gas burner, I had the best of both worlds. It was really clean and provided everything you needed in a self catering capacity. Have been to previous cottages and there were no tea towels or no bin bags. or half a toilet roll. This place has everything twice over. It really was the best cottage I have stayed at. And the price was really really great, Thank you Alan and Sharon for getting me in at short notice :) We even had a pack of brill ginger bread Cornish biscuits and a big bottle of Cornish cider :) I would not hesitate in recommending this cottage to other couples with or without a couple of kids. Beds are hard are absolutely brilliant fro my back. Wife slept on one of the single duvets as she is half the weight of me and likes a soft bed. Lovely instructions and 4 minute walk to car park where we left the car for 3 days. Very clean, great layout. Just dont tell anyone else, I want to get booked in again soon :)

Close to Everything!!!

The perfect little place for a couple/small family. Don't even bother hiring a car, It's literally walking distance to everything in St. Ives. We loved how close it was to St Ives bakery and the Bumbles Tea Room for brekky. And the beach is a stones throw away. The place itself had every comfort we needed. Would love to come and stay again! Thanks Alan and Sharon!

Sooner than later...

It was great to be back again so soon! Our stay was fabulous, as it had been in April, and thanks to Alan and Sharon, it is easy to feel welcome and at home right from the start. A great big thank you also to Sue, who took care of us so well, too. We look forward to being back!

We have loved St Ives ever since holidaying here many years ago. After living in Birmingham and then London, we eventually managed to fulfil our dream and make the move to Cornwall. We now live in St Ives, and absolutely love it! Alan and Sharon

Why they chose this property

St Ives is a special town and Downalong is at its very heart.
The houses have history, the streets are narrow and higgledy-piggledy and absolutely full of character.
Added to that the fact that you are almost completely surrounded by sea, the harbour and beautiful beaches makes this area especially unique.

What makes this property unique

The cottage is located right in the heart of Downalong but benefits from being off the beaten track - through an old granite archway and into a quiet courtyard.
The perfect location for a relaxing holiday.
