Patna Cottage, charming cosy cottage In Keld, Swaledale,
Very comfortable traditional dales cottage in beautiful peaceful village with restaurant and bar. Patna was completely renovated and redecorated to a high standard . Keld is in Swaledale, arguably Yorkshire’s most picturesque Dale. Keld is where Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walk intersects the Pennine Way and the last ‘new build’ was the Village Hall in 1926. Has lovely views and is ideally placed for walking, cycling (on and off-road), exploring the villages and market towns of Swaledale, Wensleydale and Arkengarthdale or relaxing in front of the coal and log burning stove in the cosy living room. There are 2 bedrooms, well equipped kitchen, living room, flat screen TV with Freeview satellite, DVD/blue ray. There is superfast fibre broadband Wi-Fi and a selection of games and books. There is no mobile phone signal in the area, which some guests looking to get away from it all welcome! It is easy to use your smart phone or tablet to call using the internet, to make and receive calls through your mobile phone. There is a hotel, Keld Lodge, with restaurant and public bar serving delicious home cooked food and real ales. There is also a small farm shop and cafe open Easter to Autumn with wooden tables in farm gardens.

Property overall was good apart from multi steps between all rooms. Better description of facilities to make clear no mobile signal available at property.
A lovely cottage in a great location for a variety of walking opportunities. Pennine way and coast to coast from the door as well as many other footpaths.

Beautiful cottage in amazing surroundings
Such a beautiful cottage in an amazing village. The cottage was a great size with comfortable rooms. There were so many nice touches with the coffee and tea available plus some cake and a lovely welcome message.
Leo’s was spectacular as well with the river flowing by and plenty areas to walk, run and cycle.
Can’t recommend this place high enough. We’ll be back
Comfortable cottage with quality, modern conveniences. Beds were comfortable and, even though the weather was cool, the rooms heated up well with the radiators.
Great area with lovely scenery and walks out the door. Be aware the closest proper shops are a fair drive away though. But that might be what you are looking for.
We enjoyed our first trip to the Dales and this area specifically. Will be back someday soon.
We had a lovely stay at this gorgeous cottage. The cottage is full of character. We were greeted with a lovely welcome tray. The cottage was lovely and clean. The cottage was very warm, in fact, we turned the heating down. We both enjoyed having the wood burner stove in the living room, providing a lovely atmosphere.
The kitchen was well equipped with all you need and plenty of plates and cutlery so if only 2 of you staying there was enough to be able to fill the dishwasher over a few days without having to wash up.
The bed was very comfortable, and space to put clothing in the drawers. I hairdryer was also provided. Thank you.
A nice electric shower and all you need in a bathroom.
The host was extremely helpful with any questions and responded very quickly dispite them being away on holiday themselves.
It was a wonderful stay at a very reasonable price. We hope to stay again.
I would highly recommend this cottage
Thank you for your hospitality
Homely cosy cottage with great walks on the doorstep
We spent a week over the New Year in this traditional dales cottage. All the rooms had stunning dales views plus lovely fresh winter/Christmas flowers which was a lovely touch. Included was a wonderful welcome tray and milk in the fridge! The Wi-fi was excellent and the log fire and radiators kept the cottage warm and cosy. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils and dishwasher.
Keld is well situated at the crossroads of the Coast to Coast and Pennine Way long-distance footpaths. There are several walks straight from the cottage including the many Waterfalls walk, Crackpot Hall and around Kisdon Hill to Muker.
The fascinating lead mine remains are a few miles down the dale and well worth exploring on a day's walk from Gunnerside. We had wonderful weather and made the most of it, coming home to chill in front of the log fire. Hope to visit again one day as I love the isolated beauty of its location.
Excellent place to stay. The best 3 person cottage we have ever stayed in. Stunning location. In my opinion some of the best walking in England. A great 'starter' pack was left by the owners even though we only stayed for 4 nights - thank you. They even left us a pumpkin to carve as it was Halloween, which we all appreciated, particularly my son who did the carving - thanks again. We would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to visit again soon. Five stars. Cheers.
Patna is a characterful, well equipped property, of an ideal size for my wife, son and I. Anthony is an excellent and thoughtful host. The property has many modern touches which make living in this relatively remote corner of the Dales park an absolute pleasure with few compromises to the more densely populated areas ie perfect for us! Please note the web page I saw said the property location was in Muker, but this property is actually in Keld, which for us was better. We would happily return to Patna in the future.

Favourite Place
We have just spent another wonderful week in this comfortable and cosy cottage. A generous welcome tray was provided and lovely fresh flowers in every room. The location of the cottage is so peaceful. We loved the sheep coming to say hello on a morning. This was our second walking holiday to Swaledale having totally fallen in love with the area. We enjoyed walks to and from Reeth making use of the little white bus. We had planned to eat out a couple of evenings but the cottage was so comfortable that we didn't want to leave again. We lit the stove in the living room every evening - a coal bunker of free fuel is provided which is very generous.
The cottage now has super fast broadband and a new smart tv which we enjoyed on an evening.
We have stayed in a number of cottages but this is by far our favourite. We were really sad to leave and can't wait to return soon.

Wonderful
We love this area and have visited before and will no doubt visit again. The is our first time in Keld and the cottage was a great place to stay. The owners had left a little welcome gift for us including some wine and cake, my wife liked the cake....Keld is the middle of the coast to coast walk so there is very easy access to lots of footpaths and bridleways nearby.
The local pub is less than 5 mins walk up the road and although the food selection is small it is all beautifully cooked.
The house has TV, WI-FI (handy as the nearest phone reception is over a mile away), one double and one single bed (in two rooms). The bathroom is between them both with a shower over the bath.
Everything is clean and tidy, well looked after, the perfect place to stay for a quite break.

Delightful cottage in beautiful location
We had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. It is a beautiful location with walks you can do straight from the door. Or equally get a bus down the Dale. The cottage is well equipped and the owners helpful and welcoming. Recommended

Small but perfectly formed
The property had everything you need for a great stay and the welcome tray and milk in the fridge nice touch. The views over the hay meadows from the living room and bedroom are a sight to behold. Will be staying again. Don't forget to keep the bird feeder stocked in your stay, intimate views from the kitchen.

A fabulous cottage in fabulous location
We found the cottage without any problems after the lkovely drive over the moors. It was really clean and welcoming. There was a great selection of ggodies hat had been left including biscuits a cake a bottle of wine, milk tea and coffee etc. There was also a bottle of olive oil and vinegar which was a great touch - thankyou.
The log burner was really easy to light ( I didn't even have to use a fire lighter!!) and it really gave off an incredible amount of heat.
The cottage is located in a brilliant spot to do a number of walks straight from the front door as on the Coast to Coast and Pennine Way footpaths. We enjoyed the walk to Muker over the moor and back along the river. The walk past the waterfalls is much gentler after the initial drop and climb.
Keld Lodge is handy for a pint and although the choices on the menu ( March) was limited the food was plentiful and nicely cooked and presented.
You would have to drive ( or catch a bus) if you needed to get any other provisions in as there is only a small corner shop in Muker ( closed when we were there).
There was a wifi connection although this did fade in and out occasionally ( BUT we were on holiday and a connection was not essential!!) The phone was a really good idea in case people needed to get in touch in emergencies as there is no mobile network for miles :-).
The view of the hill behind the cottage is great and it was lovely seeing the sheep come close up to the windows.
An absolutely brilliant stay in a fabulous cottage in a wonderful location. We will definitely be back.

Beautifully set in a wonderful village.
A lovely cottage - very well equipped and thoughtfully arranged. A bottle of wine awaited us as well as good quality oil and vinegar, a Yorkshire cake, coffee, tea, milk and everything necessary to make us feel welcome. It was spotless. There was even a phone that you could use (for under an hour!) which avoided the necessity of driving six miles to get a mobile phone signal! It lacked nothing, was warm, had a good shower and plenty of hot water and was well supplied with information about walks and things to do if the weather was inclement. It felt as though the owners had thought about what was needed and cared about your holiday. We were entirely comfortable there. Definitely recommended. We shall return!

Beautiful Cozy Peaceful Cottage
Keld is a lovely peaceful hamlet, an ideal location to get away from it all.
Patna cottage offered us very cosy and comfortable accommodation in Keld. The general level of decor and the quality of the kitchen etc is far better than many other cottages i have stayed in. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone.

About the host
Hosted by Anthony and Theresa Robertshaw
We live in West Yorkshire and have always loved the Yorkshire Dales, having visited regularly as children.
We usually go for walks from Keld, one of our favourites is to follow the river Swale down to Muker. A gentle stroll of just over 3 miles, much of it through wild flower meadows.
We also cycle, usually on the road. One of our favourite runs, when we are feeling fit, is up to Tan Hill, down Arkengarthdale to Reeth and then back up Swaledale past Gunnerside and Muker.
Why they chose this property
In 2011 we had the opportunity of buying Patna which we renovated with with the help of a talented , local builder. We live around 60 miles away and visit frequently.
What makes this property unique
The main thing we like about visiting Keld is the peace and quiet, to get away from the cares of the week and have a relaxing time away.
