About this property

Shepherds Patch Is A Large Thatched Cottage In Thurlestone with a parking space.

Shepherds Patch is a charming large detached thatched cottage with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, sleeping up to 10 people, situated in the heart of the quaint village of Thurlestone with an off road parking space.

The property has been refurbished and now benefits from light and spacious rooms all of which are beautifully presented. The sandy beach and spectacular coastline of the South Devon coast are approximately half a mile away.

On entering the property through the thatched entrance porch, you are welcomed by a large hall featuring country style decoration, which affords access to all the ground floor rooms.

The beamed lounge benefits from a feature fireplace with electric fire, leather sofas, TV, DVD and a range of antique furniture. The conservatory can be accessed through double doors and overlooks the garden and patio area.

The spacious rustic cottage-style kitchen incorporates an Island unit and is well equipped with modern facilities including a washer dryer, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave and range cooker. The dual aspect dining room, accessed off the hall and the kitchen, incorporates a large dining table with seating for ten people, and a complimentary range of traditional furniture. The ground floor also features a cloakroom with W.C and wash hand basin.

Wooden stairs lead to the first-floor landing, off of which are three double bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms. Two of these bedrooms have four poster beds and all benefit from a range of antique furniture and super views over the garden.

All three en-suite bathrooms have either a bath or a shower plus a wash hand basin and w.c.

The second floor incorporates two, twin bedded rooms which have been delightfully furnished in a traditional design. They both share a bathroom, with bath, w.c. and wash hand basin.

Outside, the enclosed garden enjoys secluded privacy and has been well stocked with a variety of plants and shrubs. There is a small lawned area, a patio with furniture for dining alfresco, and at the side of the property, there is an off road parking space. Additional street parking can be found nearby in the village.

Whilst we accept well behaved dogs for an additional cost of £50 per pet, per week or per short break stay, please contact us to check if you wish to take more than one dog.

PLEASE NOTE:

ABOUT THE LOCAL AREA.

The famous coastal village of Thurlestone is renowned for its abundance of thatched pink and cream-washed cottages, its 13th Century church, the village shop and the traditional local inn. Backed by rolling farmland and a sprawling cliff top golf course, the village is ideally situated for those wanting to explore the locality, especially with the benefit of the South Devon Heritage path which runs through Thurlestone.

There are two main beaches at Thurlestone. The smaller of these, Thurlestone Sands, is near to The Thurlestone golf club and at the Southern end of the beach, you can explore the rock pools around the spectacular arched rock to which the village owes its name. The larger beach is further along the coast in the direction of South Milton. Both have fine shingle and sand coverings and are in sheltered locations. Surfing, windsurfing and canoeing are all popular activities at the beach and, during the summer months, a range of sports equipment can be hired. There are many other beaches to explore along this beautiful coastline, including Hope Cove, Bigbury and Bantham. Nearby attractions include Salcombe, (famous for sailing), Agatha Christie's Burgh Island, historical market towns of Totnes and Modbury, Dartmouth, Dittisham and Dartmoor.

Family holiday
Perfect position in a lovely village. The position is excellent for nearby beaches and to the coastal path for walking. The village shop is very well stocked for day to day needs. The refrigerator is a little small if 10 adults were staying which could result in more supermarket runs. Overall an excellent stay.

Great cottage
Great location, well equipped to a decent standard. For the price would like more outside space, only a very small garden that’s well in the shade

Great place for the extended family.
Comfortable and spacious for three couples and two children. We would have appreciated more provision for small children - a stair gate, high chair and travel cot take up a lot of space in a family car but would fit easily into the property’s shed!

Thurlestone is a great place for an English seaside holiday
We had a great week at Shepherds’s Patch. However the phot is a little misleading as the tress around the house are now very high. This means the house is on the dark side with no view. The garden is small with limited space to sit out other than at the table. The interior of the house is excellent with a very spacious kitchen and wonderful large table . Easy to get to the village shop, the pub and local beaches.

First the directions to the property said travel through Modbury and Averton Gifford , you do go through Modbury but not Averton Gifford. YOU PASS AVERTON GIFFORD. The directions should be amended. The internet at the property is dire, suggest you get a booster. When I first booked the property one of my main criteria was that it had a washer and dryer which was the initial description at this property, Its not until you go into the whole description that you find that it is a combination washer dryer. if you ever had one of these you will find it is useless. when you have 6 adults and 4 children you need a washing machine and a dryer.I will certainly be more careful next time. It did not help that the drying area outside was abysmal covered in leaves did not get any air flow of sunshine the line was filthy and the drain from the over flow toilet was blocked which did not help the area. It also made the corner of the lounge smell damp. It also did not help that there was no airer to hang clothes on despite showing on the description. The toilet seat in the back yellow bedroom was loose, there seemed to be a lot of spiders around which seemed to amuse the children. The cold tap in the shower bathroom of the double bedroom was not working properly. Your letter also said that there was no hair dryer. There was. ! There is a mat outside the front door but no mat inside which makes for a area which can be wet. we always take our shoes of inside any house. I think a note about reaching the property by stairs would be advisable it did not matter to us but may do to some people. The kitchen was well equipped other than the washer/dryer. We enjoyed our holiday, the weather was kind to us.

Lovely well equipped cottage
Great cottage for a large group Well equipped ,warm and lots of hot water Only niggle was lack of mirrors in top floor bedrooms and The guest information folder probably could do with updating and more comprehensive information ...it took awhile to work out how the Range ovens worked Not helped by markings on the gauges bring almost worn away.
