About this property

Cosy comfy cottage 1mile from Brixham-Tucked away from the hustle and bustle .

Autumn Rose is a grade 2 listed cottage built in 1802, set in a rural village setting, with sheep, lambs and goats in the field beyond , birds singing , a resident hedgehog, yet just a stones throw from enchanting coves and stunning beaches, and the historic fishing port of Brixham. Its approached via an original cobbled pathway. Many of the period features remain, including wooden beams, the flagstone floor and a large stone fireplace with a wood burner - perfect for cozying up in the wintertime with a good book from the excellent selection available.

To the front there is plenty of on street parking, and to the rear a totally enclosed sunny courtyard garden, which is enhanced by an array of seasonal flowering plants, along with ample garden furniture. A barbeque is provided, ideal for a sunny evening and the catch of the day from the harbour fish market.

Autumn Rose is well equipped (the owner being a keen cook), and has a home away from home quality, traditionally furnished with relaxation at its heart. The newly refurbished period bathroom complete with a roll top bath with rain shower, is an irresistible invitation to wind down and take a long soak. (Bubbles provided). This makes the property ideal for couples, seeking a peaceful break, lovers of walking and hiking or families wishing to enjoy the beaches and local attractions. There is a great selection of toys, puzzles and games plus the quirky pirate themed Crows Nest loft room which is always a big hit with children of all ages.
Beach towels, buckets and spades, fishing and crabbing lines and picnic basket and blanket, local maps, are all available to enable you to make the most of your stay.

Pets deserve a holiday too, and the garden is perfectly suited, as are all the wonderful walks, so up to two well behaved dogs and owners are welcome, subject to additional fee.

Fast WiFi, suitable for Work from home / Highchair and travel cot available on request.

The cottage is on the edge of Churston village and was built by Lord Churston for his tenants... spot which of the windows are false, and make sure not to use the front door. Allegedly the Lord didn't want his tenants racing onto the street to demand his attention when he passed in his carriage, so he built the (shared access) entrances at the rear of the cottages - but added a fake door for appearances sake.

Within walking distance is the The Railway Inn which serves excellent food plus a local farm shop with locally sourced supplies , cafe and play area, and a particularly good butchers. Agatha Christie's Greenway house is easily accessible via the steam railway, or for those that enjoy walking, there is the scenic route on foot. An easy ramble down quiet lanes and you will find the ancient woodland, an area of outstanding natural beauty . The main path through the woods passes through bluebell meadows, old limestone kilns and leads to Churston Cove and the south west coast path, which can be followed onto the historic fishing port of Brixham, where you will find a vibrant mix of shops, cafes and restaurants. If desired you can proceed on the coastal path, which takes you beyond the town, to yet, more stunning views and beaches.

It is only a 5 minute walk from the village to a regular bus service to Brixham, Paignton and Torquay. Dartmouth can be reached by bus or (steam train - services run from February half term to the end of December). Listen out for the train whistle which can often be heard from the cottage !

Christmas breaks are available with decorations and a tree , from Dec 1st, light the fire and make the festive season a great time to getaway... local events take place from late November onwards, including the spectacular Christmas train of lights. (Highly acclaimed) Full matching dinner service with serving dishes and glasses provided to ensure your Christmas table is special.

Autumn Rose Cottage is suited to short breaks, summer holidays or longer stays all year round, and whatever the weather it's a wonderful place to be ..................

Cosy cottage for perfect walks
Really cosy cottage, lovely decorations for Xmas, great woodburner for warmth. Amazing bath and shower room. Great dog walks from the back door to various coves and beaches. Just a shame the local inn is undergoing renovations as it looks great. We’ll just have to come back and try it when it’s open again!

A beautifully rustic cottage surrounded by countryside, but still only a stones throw from everything you might need and a 30 minute walk across the field to the beach. We down tooled and relaxed, enjoyed everything and wanted for nothing.

Lovely character cottage
We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay at this lovely cottage which had everything we needed including a lovely courtyard for a evening drink. Good location and had we stayed longer we would have done some of the various walks that are right on the doorstep. Good meal at the Railway pub and a nice farm shop just down the road.

Hi. Thank you for taking an interest in Autumn Rose. My name is Abbie and I was fortunate to have grown up in the area along with my two brothers, and I was very excited to have acquired this lovely cottage in Churston Ferrers Brixham. It gives me so much pleasure to welcome so many lovely guests each year to share Autumn Rose Cottage and the beauty of the surrounding area. I particularly enjoy the rural setting, with the sheep, lambs and goats in the field beyond, birds singing and visiting hedgehogs, yet just a stones throw from enchanting coves and lovely beaches. It is very convenient that my parents who live nearby are the perfect hosts. They always make sure all guests enjoy their stay and I am very grateful for their dedication.

Year property purchased: 2013

Why they chose this property

The reason I fell in love with this cottage in particular, it felt authentic and maintained a traditional cottage feel . . My first viewing was in the winter and it was especially inviting and cosy and I knew immediately there was little point looking any further.

What makes this property unique

I have ensured the cottage is well equipped for children, so they won't be bored. I cherish memories of holidays where quality time was spent with my family, sometimes just enjoying the simplest pleasures.
