About this property

Peaceful Cottage Near Carentan, Normandy

La Grairie is set in a small hamlet on the edge of St Georges de Bohon. We are surrounded by fields and networks of quiet and unspoilt lanes which make it a delightful place for walking, cycling, or just going for a wander. It is a great place to relax and unwind in the peaceful surroundings. As well as many beautiful beaches and historic towns within easy reach, the area is rich in D-Day history.
The cottage is detached and adjacent to the owner’s house - we are on hand to help should you need it, but certainly not to intrude. La Grairie is less than 10 minutes (7km) from Carentan where all amenities can be found and a good selection of shops and several large supermarkets.
We provide a welcome pack which includes some essential items like tea bags, milk and bread, as well as some locally-produced camembert and cider from our orchard.

Downstairs is the open-plan living area which leads out to the private and enclosed back garden. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, sleeping 6 (2 doubles and a twin room), and a bathroom with shower cubicle.
Outside, there is seating for 6 people, and we provide a BBQ with a bucket of charcoal. To help you relax, there are two sun-loungers to take a snooze on.

The garden overlooks the orchard, where you are free to wander and maybe meet our three ponies and three friendly goats.

Whether you spend your time out and about, enjoying some of the many attractions the area has to offer, or just prefer lazy days, relaxing in the garden, there really is something for everyone at La Grairie!

Fantastic gite and holiday

We had an amazing week. Helen's generosity with the welcome pack, fresh flowers throughout the week and homemade biscuits was a lovely surprise. Helen was so friendly and helpful with her recommendations. A week wasn't long enough as there was so much to do in the area. We would definitely want to stay again.

Family Trip with Teen boys

Wonderful! Everything we wanted and more! Our boys just graduated and were getting ready to go off to college. We were traveling to France, Italy, and Germany. This location was amazing! Located in a small French town but with all the amenities as well as close to beaches and sights. We had more fun shopping for food while out all day and then returning home to eat in the beautiful gardens. We woke early each morning to feed the small horses and goats just for fun. The two-hour walk around the countryside suggested by the owners was amazing! You would think all of it would have been a little quiet for three teen boys but they loved every minute of the relaxing atmosphere. Helen was wonderful! She checked in with us quite a few times before leaving the USA as well as sent a large package of all the activities and sights nearby for our boys to get excited about. By the time we met Helen, we felt like family. Helen and Steve gave us the holiday of our dreams. Our boys still talk about the goats and the horses as well as the bakery vending machines on the street corners. Thank you Helen and Steve, we think of you with very fond memories. Small note...You do need a car to get around in this part of France.

A place of peaceful comfort and warm hosts

A wonderful place to stay. The gite had everything we needed and was set in tranquil surroundings. Just what we city folk needed! The goats and ponies in the orchard were a great hit with my granddaughter who was allowed to feed them with the carrots left out every morning. Wonderful long and sandy beaches were a short car journey away - our hosts recommended Carteret which was outstanding: crystal clean water and spacious beaches with excellent facilities and free parking. We visited Coutance - a nearby town - and looked around the breathtaking medieval, cathedral. Coutance had smart shops and good restaurants. On the way home via Eurotunnel, our host Helen recommended stopping at Honfleur. What a city! Full of interesting art shops, great restaurants and ancient medieval houses . Our two very friendly hosts, Helen and Steve, were always on hand to offer advice. I'd thoroughly recommend this gite and we all hope to return..

Wonderful holiday

Helen and Steve provided a fabulous base for our holiday. Comfortable, cosy, well equipped and safe accommodation for our family. We were welcomed and spoiled with daily treats from Helen. Our granddaughter Poppy fell in love with the goats and ponies, lucky animals to be cared for so well by their owners! St Georges du Bohn is a good location to explore the countryside of Normandy. We would recommend a stay here without reservation.

quiet, pretty, clean, comfortable cottage near the beaches.

Fabulous two week stay in a lovely location not far from Carentan. Helen and Steve are the owners who live adjacent but are discreet, helpful and friendly. The whole family really enjoyed the peacefulness and sunshine. For astronomers, we spent several nights under ink dark sky conditions from the back garden and had access to an open field for clear 360 degree viewing. Helen joined us for one evening and I think she will never forget viewing Saturn. For all the curious, bring your binoculars. The Douve boat trip was fabulous and an idyllic way to pass an afternoon, bookable in Carentan. Thoroughly recommend this cottage.

Perfect spot

The property was way above what we hoped for. Spacious, clean, fully equipped for self-catering. Our hosts were so kind and friendly. Welcomed on arrival and an extremely large starter pack was provided. A very sweet touch - arriving back on different days, found fresh flowers and homemade cakes on the doorstep. We had our 10 yr old granddaughter with us and she loved it, especially the ponies and the new goat. She couldn't wait to get back each day! The situation was just right for exploring the area. Would thoroughly recommend the cottage to everyone.

Merci Helen

Fabulous Family Holiday Venue

Thank you to Helen for making our stay in Normandy so perfect. The cottage was truly fabulous, located in a quiet but central village, the property offers a real taste of France. The welcome pack was generous, not to mention the home brewed cider, much needed after a hot day seeing the sights of Normandy. The children loved meeting the ponies who seemed to equally enjoy the cider apples grown in the orchard. We would highly recommend the accommodation and were so happy that we chose this cottage for our holiday. Many thanks, we hope to return one day. An unforgettable holiday.

Beautiful cottage in a perfect, peaceful location.

Spent a glorious two weeks in Helen & Steve's perfect cottage along with my son, his wife and our 5 year-old grand-daughter who made friends with Oscar and Mirabelle in the orchard and played constantly on the tree swing. Helen's welcome pack was perfect and included a bottle of their own cider which was excellent. Fresh flowers and cakes appeared regularly and their obvious knowledge of the area was both informative and extremely helpful. The cottage itself was immaculate, comfortable and very peaceful and an ideal place to retreat to after a day on the beach or exploring the local area and D-Day sites. We cannot recommend the cottage highly enough and we'll definitely make every effort to come back again.

Fabulous gite

Travelled as a couple, and on arrival the gite was like a home from home. From the minute we saw it we knew we were in for a treat. The flowers and the overall attention to detail are wonderful, as was the welcome pack which contained far more than we were expecting. Inside, the gite is immaculate, with everything needed for a perfect holiday. The gite is perfectly placed for visiting the whole of the peninsular, the west coast we found particularly beautiful. However, if you just want to chill out, the garden and surrounding countryside is really relaxing. Thanks Helen for being the perfect hostess, as well as your great local knowledge and advice. We highly recommend this gite, and can't wait to return.

Half term visit in May 2015

We were a family of 5 adults that stayed at this lovely gite for a week at the end of May 2015. The gite itself is set in peaceful countryside with a lovely orchard to stroll amongst. The gite is to a very high standard and is spotless, spacious and well equipped. The gite is ideally located for all of the D Day sites with Pegasus Bridge approximately an hour away, Utah beach about 20 minutes away and all the other sites in between. Mont St Michel is well worth a visit and is about 1 hour 20 minutes away. Carentan is the closet town and is about 10 minutes away with numerous supermarkets located there. Helen was a fantastic host and the welcome pack and cake was a lovely touch that set the tone for a great holiday. Helen was always at hand if anything was needed and the loan of the cycle to nip to the local bakery was great. I would recommend this gite and it is ideal for a chill out break or, like us a packed itinerary to see the D Day sites. I will certainly be looking at staying at this gite in the future. Thanks Helen for a great holiday and making us all so welcome.

Peace and quiet

This property was everything as described. Helen made us feel very welcomed from the very outset and was always available if we wanted any information. We used it as a base to visit the Normandy beaches and numerous tourist leaflets had been left for us. It was a very quiet and comfortable retreat to return to for a relaxing evening.. We only visited the local harbour at Carentan for a meal out on our last day, but it probably deserved more of our time. Thanks Helen for your hospitality.

So peaceful

Didn't know what to expect when we booked this holiday, but it couldn't have been better. It was a little piece of paradise in the middle of a sleepy French village. Everything was exactly as it was described & pictured, it really was one of the most peaceful places I've ever stayed in. Perfect location for seeing all the Normandy sites and an excellent host in Helen who couldn't do enough for us. All in all a wonderful holiday, hope to return one day
