Christmas to New Year stay 2024

Great location; easily walkable to Waikiki lifestyle and many restaurants. Renting a parking space is mandatory, as there were none nearby. Loud motorcyclists every night at zoo across the street lasting for several hours. It was an enjoyable stay and the staff was very friendly.

A series of unfortunate events

We landed to the news that there was no water and if we needed the bathroom there are porto potty to use in the street. A couple of hours after we got in the room we had cold water but no hot water until the next day. A week later we were informed that there was an emergency plumbing issue and that the water needed to be shut off again! We were instructed to not use anything in the room and to use the restroom in the lobby if needed. The hotel maintenance did not know how long this would last. By the morning there was a note left on the door that said we can resume using the toilet, shower etc. It was very windy the time we were there and the sliding door to the balcony was not secure. There was a loud rattling noise all day and night, so we had to stick pieces of cardboard in the crevices to get the obnoxious shaking noise to stop. It was very inconvenient to have to stuff 6 pieces of cardboard and paper towels in the door each night. I prepaid for parking and was assigned a spot to find out that this spot is surrounded by some type of a fence the host claimed that the property management took it recently. With the spot being taken, I had to reach out to host in the evening to find out what spot I really was assigned to. In the meantime I had to take someone else’s spot, who wasn’t happy about it. Luckily, he responded quickly till he answered saying we reassigned you to a different spot last minute. There is a very rowdy bar in the building, every night you hear people yelling. One night I had a drunk person trying to enter my room after 10pm completely drunk claiming it’s his room and the front desk told him this is his room number! I needed a late check out because our flight was not till 10 pm and I asked a day before and paid what I was told. The next morning the cleaning crew came three times to knock on the door and one of them just opened it after I was approved for late checkout. The pool is not heated and barely gets any sun because of the buildings surrounding it, so it is always freezing water. The view is great from the balcony. The ocean and the mountains, no other property has the best of both worlds like that in Waikiki.

The view was absolutely incredible! Location, location, location! From your private Lanai you can see diamond head, the Waikiki beach, and flamingos from the zoo all at once. You feel like you are on the beach while in your room. I want to go back already and I just got home. The room has everything you need. NIce TV, wifi, cable, a cooktop, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, dishes, pots, pans, utensils. It was perfect, perfect, perfect. They will even hold your luggage so you can fully enjoy your vacation while waiting to check in or check out. You are in walking distance from almost everything. If not, Oahu has a wonderful bus system. There are bus stops just outside your building. They run every 15 minutes or so. The fare is $3 one way and you can buy a day pass at the corner ABC store for unlimited rides for $9.50. I loved my vacation!

Waikiki Honeymoon Home

Great little studio property located inside a superbly positioned friendly hotel condo in the quieter end of Waikiki. Unit had everything we needed to make the most of our 9 day stay in Oahu. Made good use of the kitchenette equipped with all utensils and dinnerware for self catered breakfasts and picnics and the balcony is perfect for enjoying the daily sunsets over the ocean with a cold beer after a long day at the beach. Supplying local Coffee a picnic cooler and snorkel gear for 2 is a great personal touch from the host. The only things I would say were a downside were the windows/door onto the balcony are in need of an upgrade. They are old and offer little sound insulation from the busy street below. Fortunately we are deep sleepers so it wasn’t an issue for us sleeping, but traffic, motorcycles, loud mufflers etc are definitely intrusive. Also the unit has no central air conditioning and uses a small portable unit which exhausts onto the balcony. We stayed in December and it struggled to keep the room below 80F late afternoon after returning from beach, so I would think it would be unsuitable to deal with heat at the height of summer. Also (NOT an issue with the property itself) - overnight parking is either non-existent or astronomically priced in the surrounding area. This is a Waikiki issue in general, but be prepared for that as ($40-50 a day) really adds a huge surcharge to that weekly car rental you may be planning. Just a heads up to others who may be Oahu first timers. Mahalo Mark and Hotel Grand Waikiki for hosting us, we had an awesome time and would definitely book again WHEN we visit again. Hawaii really is such a magical place! Aloha!

Hot Hot Hot

This unit was extremely hot. I was visiting at the end of October. it did NOT HAVE PROPER COOLING EQUIPMENT. It was using some cheap AC unit that was leaking heat out of the back into the room. The room would be 88 degrees starting at about 9:30am and would only get down to 77 during the night. I wasn’t even able to sleep comfortably. The property manager did not help resolve the issue at all. He just said “ it’s gets hot” . I’m sorry but no, you have guest that pay good money to stay here. You should upgrade the AC unit and insulate the unit better instead of those old glass folding windows. This unit is a joke, the building and atmosphere is awesome but this unit specifically needs some work. this was a horrible experience. I couldn’t even enjoy the awesome view, I had to keep the blinds closed all day so it would not get hot in the room, and it still got up to 88 degrees Fahrenheit . One star. Use your money somewhere else that will be more impactful towards a positive experience.

Nice view but otherwise a disaster

The view is nice, but thats where the nice things end. Luckily the owner provided us a partial refund & we able to move to another location for the remainder of our trip. The A/C wouldn't get below 80 degrees. The bathroom/entry hall smelled like smoke all the time despite the property being smokeless. The tub doesnt drain well so by the end of your shower you are standing in multiple inches of water. Giant cockroaches in room was the final straw for us. In our opinion other things to be improved: the remote control doesn't really work for the tv, so you have to get up to change things like the volume. Also as other reviewers have stated the bed isn't very comfortable. Stay at your own risk.

Great location and million dollar views.

We had a great 5 night stay. Bed was good, room was spacious, location is perfect! Very central to beach (steps away) restaurants and shopping in town and it was pretty convenient location for pick up and drop off for the tours we did. The best part is the balcony! We sat out there every morning and enjoyed the quiet ocean and sunrise behind diamond head. We did the same thing every evening. You have a perfect view of the sun setting on the ocean. We could also enjoy the New Year’s Eve fire works from the balcony.

Views abound

Fantastic view of Diamond Head, the beach and the zoo, all from our lanai. Room was clean, small but comfortable. Bed's mattress was very comfortable, although you had to use the step stools to get onto the bed. Central to everything. We didn't need a car -- walking to most places, bus to others and Uber to still others. I would recommend this for the comfort, view and location..

Great Location but tired and old

This property although in a great location with a beautiful view is in serious need of some renovations. The bathroom was old cramped and smelled, the patio door only my husband could open and it didn’t lock. Upon contacting someone about the door and letting them know that we felt unsafe when we arrived we didn’t hear back that evening so we had to hunt down a piece of plastic pipe to put in it to secure it. The bed was comfortable but being a captains bed with a thick mattress it was so tall that I (5’2”) couldn’t get into it without my husbands assistance. The building smelled badly on the 10th floor from an apartment across from the elevator. And the public bathroom in the lobby was disgusting.

Location, location, location.

This property is in a great spot, less than a block away from the beach. If you have a car, parking can be a bit of a problem, but we managed to find free street parking around the corner, on the other side of the zoo. Unit is tiny, but certainly large enough for 2 people. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful.

Stunning Views!

To see both Diamond Head and the beach at Waikiki from the 9th floor was a lovely way to spend time on the lanai. While the wifi works effortlessly, exiting the fast lane of the mainland and chilling with the beauty is what this vacation home offers.

Perfect Location

This beautiful condo was exactly where we needed to be in Waikiki. The beach, just a stone-throw away, was charming and lively. There are large grass fields near by and a sand volley ball net. The hotel itself was nothing special, a little run down actually; however, the room was clean, well decorated and homey. The view from the balcony is unmatched, with both Diamond Head (which you MUST hike) and the ocean in plain sight. Having the well kept zoo right off of the balcony was perfect, as it allowed for more scenery than just another hotel next door. The room had most of the appliances/utensils you would need to make a meal there. The fridge and microwave were helpful. There were beach towels and mat for use, and travel guides to use as well. The balcony was a perfect place to hang wet items as it has full sunlight for most of the day. Although there is a bar above the hotel, the noise was never a problem. We are hoping to return someday. Overall, great for a couple or single who have a budget yet value a clean and comfortable room.

Great view and location near Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, and the zoo

Property is on the ninth floor of a ten story hotel building with a great view of Diamond Head from the balcony. The Honolulu Zoo is directly across the road and we enjoyed our visit there too. The beach is just a fraction of a block away and there are almost always a lot of surfers in the water there. The renter is not a private owner but rather a property manager stretched to cover a large quantity of properties with limited manpower. The air conditioned unit has been remodeled fairly recently including a new well-equipped kitchenette, bed, ceiling fan, HD TV etc. My wife and I were disappointed that the updates seemed to stop there though. The sink and tub could be replaced and the tub drain could not keep up with the shower. Some of the wall switches and the bathroom pocket door seemed quite dirty. The sliding door to the balcony may have been original and is very difficult to operate even for a fit adult male. We didn't have any major issues during our stay but we did have to request a mattress cover to insulate us from the plastic-wrapped mattress after we struggled to sleep the first night. If you are all about location without spending top dollar, this is a good choice for you. If you value more of the little things and can afford to spend a little more, you may want to look elsewhere.
