About this property

Rural family peace and tranquility. Up to12 guests, self catered.

"Les Volets Rouges" is a large and comfortable family home set in quiet rural location, with lots of room indoors and out for family and friends to relax and play.
It has been our beloved family holiday home for over 40 years, and has seen three generations of all ages enjoying the beautiful house, gardens and surroundings.
Set in 2 acres of gardens and surrounded by farm-land, the house offers an informal self-catering retreat from which to enjoy the best of the Lot et Garonne and neighbouring Dordogne, and some fine golf courses too!
The property, located in the small hamlet of Queyssel, comprises an original and characterful building dating back nearly 200 years and offers accommodation for up to 12 guests.
Les Volets Rouges has 2 x twin rooms with en suite, 3 x twin rooms and 1 x double bedroom, with two bath/shower/w.c.
A large, well-equipped kitchen and dining area with 3 meter oak table downstairs and a second kitchen and dining area upstairs provides the indoor dining facilities.
Les Volets Rouges also has three sitting rooms, two with TV / Video / DVD. WiFi is available but with limited range.
Outside is a large table for 12 under the shade of a chestnut tree for idyllic outdoor eating, with a large BBQ nearby. A second large terrace catches the morning sun for breakfast, croissants and coffee! There are several other peaceful outdoor seating areas.
The beautiful pool area surrounded by lawn has comfortable sun loungers and a "pigeonnier", acting as a pool house complete with changing area and drinks fridge
There's a charming and relaxed character to the property that immediately puts guests at ease and ready to enjoy a stress-free holiday, relaxing in the gardens, using the private swimming pool, visiting local villages and markets or just taking it easy with local walks by the Dropt river.
Given its rural location, use of a car is essential - a choice of car rental companies are based at nearby Bergerac international airport.
We try to accommodate your holiday date choices as much as possible but in the high season of July and August change-over days are Sundays.

Beautiful but......

This is a wonderful property with great space both inside and outside. Unfortunately it felt like the property had been slightly neglected, especially in comparison with the photos displayed, with algae build up giving the pool a green colour and overgrown ivy and trees around the house creating quite a dark feeling inside. Nothing that a little attention on the house and grounds wouldn't fix ahead of the next season.

English and American family

This is a lovely old french farmhouse in a tiny hamlet not far from several beautiful french towns. The best part is as we were 4 different family groups there was plenty of space to spread out. Pool and table tennis were greatly appreciated plus we had some wonderful walks and runs in the local area. It’s probably a problem in any country home but bugs were annoying, especially around the pool. Upstairs bedrooms got pretty warm but the fans help a lot. Marc is very responsive and available for help and information.

Ideal for a great family hoiday

As a family of 10 (7 adults and 3 children) we found Les Volets Rouge to be the ideal place for a great family holiday. The house was spacious, comfortable, very well equipped and full or character. We particulary enjoyed the huge gardens and pool area, where we spent most of our days having fun in the pool, relaxing and eating. The property is surrounded by plenty of mature trees which provided ample shady places away from the hot summer sun. It's in a very quiet location with some lovely nearby villages and towns to explore. Peter, Dorota and family.

Beautifully picturesque, spacious and rambling...

A week at Les Volets Rouge was the prefect antidote to the stresses of working life at home in England and gave us the opportunity to enjoy the company of a large group of our friends. We only wished it had been a month. The house is beautifully picturesque, spacious and rambling, with comfortable nooks for every mood and requirement. The spacious and well kept gardens and the orchard are a delight, allowing us to wander and explore, soak up the sun around the pool and eat outside in a variety of choice spots on different lawns and terraces: - enough space for our friends all to be together or do their own thing without leaving the grounds. Idyllic, relaxing and near enough to charming and historic local towns for a quick trip to fetch the breakfast croissants, visit the markets or eat out in the evening, but far enough away to be entirely tranquil. Enough WiFi and phone coverage to be connected when necessary, but not too much so as to be troubled by either. We are looking forward to returning to this special place. Jamie & Hanne

Host profile image
Our English-French family have enjoyed Queyssel as a holiday home for nearly 50 years. It has been a wonderful place to while away the long hot summers and the occasional festive Christmas holiday as we've grown up over the years. Now the house is being enjoyed by the 3rd family generation too.

Why they chose this property

Our family home offers a comfortable and relaxed environment where all the basic needs are covered: comfortable bedrooms, big kitchen and dining areas, large swimming pool (safety-enclosed). A perfect location for a self catered holiday with family and friends.

What makes this property unique

Quiet and tranquil, set in a rural hamlet, but not far from the delightful town of Eymet, Les Volets Rouges is a haven for Francophiles and their family and friends to enjoy a relaxed break in the Lot et Garonne / Dordogne.
But, if you choose, there's lots to do in the area; golfing, cycling, wine tasting, historic visits... so make it your base-camp and come back after a day of activity to jump straight into the pool or relax on a sun lounger.
