Love staying (2nd time) in this little cottage, just perfect for one or two people. It's so close to everything - 10 minute walk to both Festival and Royal George Theatres. Balzac's Coffee is about two blocks away for a quick caffeine (or latte, in my case!) fix. The river is two minutes away.
There are so many excellent restaurants. My favorite (on the high $ end) is Treadwell Cuisine. Also check out The Cannery (terrific short ribs with bearnaise sauce!), Trius Winery, Ruffino's (pizza and pastas). So many wineries have great restaurants now.
The Shaw Festival is my main draw to NOTL. The plays are excellent - every one. Really enjoyed them every year.
Penny met me at the cottage to make sure everything was okay, and communication with her was a breeze via texts. I was already familiar with the particulars from my last stay in 2022, so really didn't need anything explained.
Another wonderful vacation, and look forward to returning next year!
This was our second stay at the charming Shaw Cottage - we loved our stay so much the first time, we just had to return! The cottage is so warm and cozy, we didn’t want to leave! It is close by to all of what NOTL offers. Penny and Jeff are so friendly and accommodating. Thanks for having us and we hope to be back soon!
We stayed five nights at the Shaw cottage and were thrilled with our decision to make this our home base for our first visit to NOTL. We walked through town and in the waterfront, took a dat trip to Niagara Falls, went antique shopping (well, looking), saw three great shows, and had a much-needed break from our busy lives.
We were able to check in early, which was a big help because we had an early afternoon show that day. We did not cook at all, but the full size refrigerator was perfect for groceries and leftovers. The bed was super comfortable. We used the second bedroom for extra dressing and clothes space (I like to unpack).
Communication with our hosts was easy and quick.
Thank you for a wonderful stay! We would definitely stay here again.
2 nights spent a a very clean, quiet and comfortable cottage with a lovely garden and ample space in the private backyard to relax and enjoy the outdoors all within a short walking distance to the heart of the action "downtown".....parks, shopping, dining and the lake. Enjoyed our stay very much.
Thank you Jeff and Penny
Very comfortable and convenient cottage just steps from the theatres and shops, but without the noise.
The warm in-person welcome from our host was much appreciated. Messages during the week were responded to promptly.
A special note to those like us who are allergy-prone: we had no issues during our visit to this extremely clean home.
Rain or shine the "Shaw" cottage can up all your vitamin needs, an all purpose happy pill as a result of location, amenities, cleanliness but best of all hosts who work so diligently to provide such a great experience.
The weather didn't co-operate on our weekend, so we spent the majority of the time indoors at the cottage. Being so lovely and quaint, we truly enjoyed our quiet time in such a lovely, quaint, place. We will be back!
Most charming cottage with the best location! Close to historic main strip, lake and biking distance to wineries. Penny was very easy to communicate with and a delight. Would definitely recommend and return!
Not sure where to begin, but this adorable cottage hit all the right buttons! It's half a block from the Niagara River going east, and two blocks to the main commercial street (Picton), with dozens of nice shops, art galleries and restaurants to the west. The Shaw's theaters are two blocks north or south, so everything is within about 5 blocks from the cottage, and a nice 10 or 15 minute walk. If one wanted, they could park the car and stick to the town without having to drive anywhere.
There is so much to see and do in the general southern Ontario area. This was my first trip to the area, and I availed myself of the multitude of sights and activities in Niagara Falls (Ontario side), dozens of wineries and distilleries (many with really nice restaurants), historic sites, the Butterfly Conservatory - much too much to list. "NotL" is a beautiful town, flowers everywhere, nicest place I can remember. People are friendly (well, they mostly ARE Canadian!) and engaging.
I so enjoyed the cottage. I'd pick up a latte at Bacchus Coffee and a chimney cake from Budapest Bakery and bring them back for breakfast with some fruit from one of the multitude of fruit stands selling peaches, apricots, nectarines, etc. Then it was off to explore every day, back for a delicious dinner (loved Treadwell Farm to Table in town, and Trius Winery about five miles away), and maybe a performance at the Shaw Festival. The cottage is very quiet, and it was nice to open the windows at night to take advantage of the cool breeze.
Penny and Jeff were immediately responsive to my rare question or comment, and super-nice people when I met them (again, they ARE Canadians!).
Thanks to both of them for making this such an enjoyable stop, and look forward to returning, hopefully yearly.
Neal
We enjoyed staying in this beautiful and comfortable cottage. Great location for walking to restaurants and theater. Hosts were warm and welcoming when we arrived.
Apparently Mark Twain said "You can go to heaven if you want, I'll stay in Bermuda." We believe that's because he had never been to this little piece of heaven in Niagara on the Lake.
