About this property

The YURT at Screwball Ranch

The YURT at Screwball Ranch sits high in western Colorado at the south base of Grand Mesa, the largest flat-top mountain in the world - with over 300 lakes and miles and miles of hiking, biking, hiding, Jeep, ATV, and snowmobile trails.

This is no ordinary YURT! The YURT at Screwball Ranch is Off-the-Grid but large (over 900 square feet – including the loft) and contains a complete 3/4 bath, fully equipped kitchen (propane range and oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, cooking utensils, etc. - no dishwasher, but Hey - it's a Yurt), open living area, wood stove, propane heater, solar electricity (generator backup), large deck, enclosed entryway, and adequate storage space. The YURT comfortably sleeps four – two twin beds in the loft and two full-sized futons in the living area. You’ll be secluded on your private 80 timber-covered acres. You’ll have private access to thousands of adjoining BLM acres. There are miles and miles of private hiking, biking, ATV, and horseback trails that start right at your doorstep.

Your pets will beg to come back to our 2 acres of fenced wooded area around the YURT where they can roam free and inspect neat smells, a lizard or two, or just lie in the shade and relax.

Perfect place to reset

The yurt and land are perfect. Wide open spaces, common amenities and amazing starry skies. It was everything we needed for a mountain reset. Thanks for your hospitality George and Tom.

Best way to unplug

We had a wonderful time at the Yurt. We spent a lot of time unplugging and relaxing near the fire while our dogs explored the property. We had the best time and want to return soon!

Perfect getaway

We enjoyed everything about the Yurt. Perfectly appointed and the fenced area for the dog was an added bonus. Wood stove kept us warm, amazing view off the porch along with the privacy was just what we needed. Our hosts were awesome and took great care of us. We loved our time here and can't wait to come back.

Everything was absolutely perfect and exactly as expected if not better. Host was very helpful and went well above necessary to make sure we had everything we needed. Traveling with giant breed dogs is not easy but they made it so

Quiet Paradise

We absolutely loved our time at the Yurt! George the host, was super knowledgeable, helpful, and even built a small ramp for my partner who uses a power wheelchair. The views from the porch were great! Birding, bonfires, and brunch on the porch were some of the things we did. We definitely want to come back!!!

Western Colorado Paradise.

A return to Delta County after six years away. The Yurt gave us a great location for revisiting our old haunts on Grand Mesa. The property was well equipped and very comfortable. One of the manager/owners lives nearby. The guest manual answered all our questions. Thanks to you all.

Well what can you say when you truly have found one of the most amazing places to stay. They say it's off the grid. We had a huge yurt, gorgeous kitchen and bathroom. Wrap around porch. The firepit is a work of art. The view's off the back deck are like looking at the Grand Canyon. So much room on the property for kids and dogs. Completely fenced. We also got internet and satellite. If you're thinking about this place. Don't walk. Run. It's truly an amazing property. Our warmest thanks to the Bradshaw and Howe clan. These hosts know how to host. Happy travels everyone.

Convenient, Yet Off the Grid

Thanks guys for a great stay at The Yurt; you took very good care of us. The Yurt at Screwball Ranch is close enough to town to be convenient, yet secluded enough to give you that great “off-the-grid” feeling. One of the biggest perks for us was that we could let our beagles roam the property on their own. The fence gave them a huge area to roam without the possibility of getting lost; which made our life simpler while at The Yurt. We recommend The Yurt to everyone.

Best "Yurt Experience" you'll ever have.

We've waited years to see and explore The Western Slope of Colorado, and to do so and stay in a "Luxury Yurt" with all the touches of home made this one of the most enjoyable stays we've ever known. Located below the Grand Mesa in Colorado this yurt has all the comforts of home and is situated on a peaceful 80 acres of property lush with pinions and junipers. And it that's not enough, the property is surrounded by countless acres of BLM land with ready access to National Forest, several breathtaking scenic wonders, evening stars and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. You'd be a fool to pass up an opportunity to stay at this property, and you can bet we'll definitely be staying here as often as we can. Thank you for making our dream trip come true.

Just what we needed

We are not really camping kind of people, so a yurt was a nice compromise and adventure. The yurt was roomy, had everything we needed and was in a wonderfully secluded location. We did go on a hot weekend, so we stayed out of the yurt during the heat of the day and went up to the Grand Mesa. The nights cooled off nicely and with the help of the fans provided and good air flow. We really enjoyed the porches and the views. This is a great location for those looking to enjoy outdoor sports, hunt, trail ride or just be off the grid. The check in was easy and the hosts provide you with information about the yurt and any other questions you may have. I recommend spending time in the Grand Mesa and doing some hiking, kayaking or paddle boarding. I also recommend the farmer's market in town to get some fresh produce and hitting up a few of the local wineries.

Glamping at it's finest!

We love it! This was our first Yurt experience and we are already planning another stay! We travel with our dog and cockatiel, trying to find lodging that doesn't gouge you with extra pet fees is challenging. Not only does the "Screwball Ranch" accept pets (no fees) they have fenced approximately 2 acres around the yurt so that your dog can roam the property. Our golden retriever loved this! The wrap around trex deck was such a delight in the late afternnon and evenings. There is plenty of seating and the weber grill was our go to "kitchen" for dinner! Eating at the hightop table with such majestic views of the surrounding mesa is breathtaking! After dinner we went to the fire pit for a few after dinner cocktails and to gaze at the just out of reach stars. I would suggest day time activities outside of the yurt as it gets quite warm during the day. We however, brought a couple box fans and with the 2 that are provided it cooled down easily in the evening. There is a small t.v. and a handful of dvd's and most of them are older movies. I would suggest bringing your own or hitting up "redbox" if you want a better selection. There is very minimal labor involved with keeping the yurt supplied with enough electricity and the on demand hot water worked well! I highly recommend staying here! I want to thank the Howe & Bradshaw families for opening up there little piece of moutain paradise to us! Thank You!! We look forward to seeing you again.

This was our second time staying at the Yurt. We had a wonderful time. Breakfast/coffee on the new deck. Watching the stars sitting out at the really nice fire pit. The full kitchen and bathroom make it even more comfortable. The location to the Grand Mesa is perfect. Thank you

Why they chose this property

The owners use this property as the family's big game hunting headquarters the late weeks of October every year. Hunters travel in from literally from border to border, coast to coast each year to savor about 10 days off-the-grid and into western Colorado Rocky Mountain splendor.

The rest of the year (from April to late October we make our unique property available to others that want solitude, quiet, a teeny bit of roughing it, a limited amount of networking, and just plain relaxation.

What makes this property unique

We love pets - all sizes, types, and shapes. We have corrals, and about two acres of property surrounding the YURT, fire-pit, parking, etc fenced such that you can turn your pets loose while you make shopping or day trips about the area. We do appreciate advanced notice if you're planning on bringing your pet elephant or hippo. We'll have to make special plans for additional water.
