What a treat it was to stay in this home. The house is beautiful and shows pride of ownership. You can easily imagine that this house has been passed down generation to generation. This is wonderful place to stay with your family. The owners rightfully ask you to be careful with the hardwood floors and once you see how beautiful they are you will understand why. This is the perfect place to go for a quite family getaway. If you are from the states it like staying in a fariytale. There are plenty of amazing things to do within a short drive. Castles, caves, villages, hiking and more.

Fantastic view in an extraordinary house! Nice rooms and enough privacy. A little walking road behind the house where every now and then walkers/hikers pass, but for us not disturbing. The view from the livingroom is simply fantastic. For a pieceful and relaxing stay we will absolutely come back again!

It is what it says it is: a little charming castle
We liked our stay because:
-Very nice looking property, inside and outside, including the decor and the furniture
-good owner: coopererative, informative, and pleasant personality; morever, he
was punctual and proved he could be trusted
The furniture could be a little more modern and comfortable but then, the property
would loose in charm and character; bedding is however very good
All in all, we were happy with the property and would return

Spacious and beautifully positioned
Spacious and beautifully positioned faux castle on the outskirts of a tiny village. A great place to eat, drink and read. Within easy driving distance of Carcassonne, Toulouse and numerous caves and spas. Highly recommended.

It's Charming, Indeed
Review #9433026 “Perfect place for every history and nature lover”
The Five days we spent at The Little Charming Castle have become
unforgettable. Wings of imagination acquired by novels
landed us from Japan to the Midi Pyrenees where we spent most of our time hiking
short trails leading to chateau ruins of cathares. The accommodation
itself is located at the end of Roquefixade village enabling you to
access to the Chateau of Roquefixade on foot. Also less than one- hour
drive could take you to many other historical sites of cathares and
prehistoric cave arts. It's a place of great nature stands together with
French deep history and great civilization. The house is spacious and spectacular, and everything is equipped for longer stay. (we loved the huge fireplace!)
Mr. Maris, the owner of the accommodation is a friendly person who's
hospitality made our stay comfortable.

Great holiday
We had a great time in this house in Roquefixade. The house is very spacious and equipped with everything you need. Beds are good.
The house is beautifully located. You have got splendid views from the garden and the large windows and there's a lot to do in the surroundings: nice villages, mountains to walk, hills to cycle.

The house tells a story
We had a wonderful time in "La Bastide de Roquefixade". The house is most comfortable in every way. Apart from that: the house tells a story. The symmetry, the fine carvings and the pictures and other attributes concerning Cathar history, the fine colours... The house is beautifully located, viewing the lower land and the Montsegur. As the house borders on woodland, we could start our walks almost in the garden! We made several walks in the neighbourhood and even to the Montsegur. The village of Roquefixade is small but pretty and has its own Cathar “castle” and even a restaurant, where we had tasty (vegetarian) meals. Again and again we were impressed by the unspoilt nature, the serenity and the clear starry sky. “La Bastide de Roquefixade” is a place to remember and to visit again!

unforgettable holidays
Our staying in this house in Roquefixade was a real delight. We were absolutely fascinated by everything: the building itself, the surroundings, splendid views from the windows and the spirit of Cathars which we really felt everywhere. We were also enchanted by the village, the rock and the castle and also by the people we happened to meet. The house within easy reach to many other wonderful sights on the famous Cathar road with spectacular castles. About 1.5 hour by car to seaside resorts and beaches. Also there is a great possibility to see excellent examples of prehistoric art in a number of caves.
We recommend this place to those who wants to enjoy the beauty of nature in all its diversity (mountains, hills, lakes, sea and so on), wonderful works of architecture, who is fond of history and culture

About the host
Hosted by Jean-Barthélémy Maris
Originally from Roquefixade and Ariégeois, I live in Toulouse where I practice my profession. In love with this pretty corner of the South of France, I have at heart to discover this magnificent terroir and this beautiful surrounding nature that I rub shoulders with since my earliest childhood. The Maris House is a family home to which I am very attached and which contains a lot of history. I will ask you to preserve it and respect it as if you were staying with one of your close acquaintances. Not living there, you will be in contact with Margaux who will manage the entire activity. It will inform you about the activities of the surroundings and will be your only and privileged contact. Do not hesitate to ask her to organize your arrival and stay, Margaux can advise you and indicate the places you cannot miss. I hope you enjoy this accommodation as well as I enjoy sharing it with you!
Why they chose this property
Because it is unique by itself and by its location. Without vis-à-vis, with a 180° landscape facing the Pyrénées.
What makes this property unique
The location and the house is a very calm and peaceful place, perfect for meditation and revitalization...
