. About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Celebrated 70

For my 70th birthday we took the family (6 adults 2 kids) to Yosemite to celebrate. We have aged out of our family camping trip so this was first time with 4 solid walls in Yosemite. It was a lovely stay in a very comfortable cabin. Plenty of room for all. The well stocked kitchen was unexpected given previous reviews so found no need to unpack a large pot and sharp knives. Staying inside the park a plus. We would definitely stay again.

Good stay!

It was a good cabin to stay for a few days. There was no AC, so during the day it gets really hot in the summer but morning and nights were cool enough. No sauces or condiments so it would be good to bring these.

Rustic location in Yosemite.

Awesomely beautiful scenery surrounding our family vacay. Cabin worked well for the six of us. (72‐50‐45‐41-32 & 16 yr old) Not much time spent there as hiking and excursions filled our days. Cooked & ate & slept there and that worked well. I would recommend this locations for a no‐frills adventure.

Cozy Place. Short on Necessities.

I have been to Yosemite MANY, MANY times, usually camping in the valley. But the women in my group wanted to sleep on a bed this time. So we chose this Quail Meadows cabin in Wawona. It was very cozy. The rooms are nice, comfortable and clean. The location INSIDE Yosemite made it especially great as the valley was only 30+ minutes away. And even Wawona had some little hikes that we enjoyed. I went during spring break 2022 with 10 members from my extended family. The Redwoods in Yosemite are very good at managing the place as they jumped on any issue (e.g., no hot water). However, what is inside the cabin is the responsibility of the owner. I bring this up because the place is billed as being able to handle up to 11 people with a kitchen that is fully equipped with all of your cooking and dining needs. That is literally what it says in the first two sentences of the rental description and is one of the reasons we chose it. HOWEVER, the kitchen is stocked as if it was a bachelor pad. How are you going to cook meals for 10 people if you only have small pots and pans? And we were only trying to do the basics. There wasn't a pot big enough to boil water for one package of spaghetti. And if you were going to grill something, you better bring your own platter because the biggest plate they had was a dinner plate. You may think I'm being too harsh, knocking the rating down 2 stars. But it really was a bit of a hardship for us as there isn't a place you can buy those things unless you go back down to Oakhurst. This place was billed for a relatively big group of people. But you can't do it unless you're only making sandwiches or everyone is fending for themselves. This is a relatively easy fix so I hope the owners are listening...

It was a great experience. Great property.

Suggestion for future guests: maybe sharper knives, pot holders, more dish towels. Also one big pot for pasta. We cook a lot! Lol

Mini Snow Vacation

Our time here was good and my family really enjoyed being away from the city and in the mountains with a snowy background. First, the not so good. Upon checking in we found one of the windows was broken so we contacted maintenance to help; obviously he couldn't replace it at 8ish in the evening so we agreed he would tape it until it could be replaced. Having said that, the next morning I reported it to the check-in personnel and filled out a folio where it would be covered under the damage waiver fee. It almost felt like I was the one that broke the window when in fact it was like that already. Check in at 4 pm or later and check out at 10 am seemed like it wasn't enough time to truly enjoy but we made the most of it and lastly, the place could be better cleaned, I'm sure they vacuum and all but one of the shelf in the refrigerator had some kind of spill left there and was dried so I don't know how it had been like that and my little girl had taken off her socks and one had gone underneath the couch; I lifted it to get to it and found all sorts of trash there and you couldn't see it unless you lifted the couch. For the good; it was a really big house for all of us. We were going to be a total of 8 but ended up only being 6 of us so plenty of room. It took a bit to get the heater going but once it did the house was warm and cozy. It had plenty of linen to use for those cold nights. The location was excellent. It was extremely close to hiking trails and the Wawona hotel play area which is where our kids and us had so much fun. The snow still left over in the ground and surrounding areas was beautiful. The little market in the area had everything necessary for a meal or drinks, just know that the hours are from 8 am to 6 pm. When we arrived it was opened but didn't stop by until later past 7 and it was closed; my son and I enjoyed the walk though so it was great. Overall we would stay again because we made the best of it and our kids were extremely happy. Maybe in the summer time we'll come back and actually take the hike to the Chilnualna Falls! Thank you for hosting us

Great location, perfect for a group of 9 with kids

Nine of us, including five kids, gathered to enjoy the beauty of Yosemite in October. The cabin accommodated all of us well; many of the kids slept in sleeping bags on the floor, though (they LOVED it, of course). The kitchen had everything but cutting boards, the beds were comfortable, the BBQ on the deck worked well. We didn't think to turn the thermostat up until the last night (once we did, it was much cozier inside when the temps dropped), and one of the gas fireplaces didn't seem to work, but other than that, the cabin fit our purposes well. The kids, in particular, enjoyed playing hide-and-seek inside, and playing frisbee outside behind the house in an area with a great rock to climb. There is a market in Wawona, just down the street from the cabin, in the event you need a last minute item. Oakhurst has large grocery stores. Mariposa Grove is about a 5 minute drive from the cabin. Yosemite Valley is more like 30 minutes away by car. There's a great waterfalls trail within walking distance of the cabin, too. We had a great time and cannot wait to visit Yosemite again!

Good Cabin Despite the Summer Heat

The cabin had plenty of space for our family comprised of 4 adults and 2 children. The kids enjoyed the board games and the adults enjoyed the spacious deck and front porch. The kitchen is very modern and we had no problem cooking for 6. The summer sun heats the home very quickly once it reaches about 10am. Our main strategy to keep the home cool was to let the crisp, morning air in until 10am when we shut the windows, doors and blinds. There were 2 box fans, and we would set them up in the doorways in the afternoon/evening to circulate the air when it got too stuffy. All in all, it wasn't too bad for people who are used to temps above 95 F (35 C) but could be a struggle for families not acquainted to the heat.

Great 1960s cabin, warm and cozy

This cabin is pretty retro - but everything is in great order and very clean. It’s actually much bigger than we thought it would be, with two living rooms both with wood fires. Lots of board games and well stocked kitchen. There is plentiful wood and the reception provided kindling every day. Check in was 4pm but our cabin wasn’t ready until 4.40. That’s not great when check out us 10am. Cleaning products including disinfectant are provided. Walkable to a fantastic waterfall hike at the end of the road. Cons: reception desk not great: I contacted the office before we arrived to ask fir the check in address but they never got back to me. The receptionist on site also said she would contact me about a broken dishwasher but she did not call to give me an update. It’s a good 45-60 min drive to Yosemite village but close to Mariposa Grove ( not great at present - over run with tourists, very narrow trail to walk to the grove and 50% of people did not wear masks ( selfish and ignorant). We would stay here again however even just to do the chilnulana falls trail again and Glacier Point trails ( GP Rd was already closed sadly) and fantastic horseback riding at fish camp through Yosemite Trails ( they were great!).

Quiet and close proximity to the Valley

The house is clean, spacious, and enough for 11 people. The only thing is the house is old, and the furniture is old. The dining chair is wiggling and squeaking, and we were afraid that it would break. The area is quiet and safe, especially when you see that ranger is staying in the same place. They have a small market for groceries. No interaction with the property manager because of COVID. Some resident does not want to wear a mask at one point entering the market, but the market owner did a great job not allowing them to enter the store. But overall we are satisfied with our stay and will come back ad stay again here again.

Plenty of room

Our specific property was all that we expected. Lots of room, nice fireplace, plenty of firewood. All the dishes, towels, etc were there. The check-in was quick and pleasant. We would do this place again. Just remember to review what is NOT provided - like shampoo - oh, and the matches to start the fire are in the little bag with the starter fluid.

Great property....great location

We enjoyed the cabin. It felt homey and was more than spacious enough for all 10 of us. It's close enough, but not too close. Awesome local hikes to the falls and swinging bridge. Couldn't have been happier with our choice to book this property.
