Sweet cottage in beautiful location

Everything was great -- home away from home, and not too hard to find. The rushing creek across the road and views all around were high points.

Eclectic and cozy

My husband and I stayed here for a few days and enjoyed the eclectic decor and the nice big front porch. We spent every night that we were there on the front porch rocking and talking and listening to the creek across the road. If you are looking for a place to relax and get away from the real world this is the place to do it.

Lovely bright cottage in the mountains

We had a lovely stopover enroute from Myrtle Beach to Toronto. Owner was real helpful and everything was as described. Very relaxing environment and we all had a good night's sleep. Used our GPS to get there and it took us on a very scenic drive to get there so make sure you look at the easiest way to get there.

So nice, we came back!

My daughter and I stayed here two years ago and this time my husband was able to join us. We had three wonderful nights in this cozy cottage. It was very clean and incredibly well stocked- lots of spices, utensils, plenty of dishes and cups, and even ziploc bags! We enjoyed using the new Weber grill on the deck, and used the fire pit by the river (across the street) every night. The cottage is located very close to the state park and just a short drive to Carver's Gap for hiking on the AT- Roan Mountain has 3 grassy balds (one of the most beautiful hikes on the AT). I would highly recommend this cottage and we hope to be back!

Wonderful cottage in a great location!

We have been using VRBO for over 15 years and I have to say, this cottage is the best of them all! Ann was so wonderful with communication before and during our stay. Her welcome basket in the kitchen was a welcome surprise after our long drive. The entire cottage was spotless and so beautifully decorated. We enjoyed using the fire pit, going for walks around the quiet neighborhood, and sitting on the rocking chair porch. This cottage is very close to Roan Mountain State Park and the Appalachian Trail, and Banner Elk, Sugar Mountain, and Grandfather Mountain are not too far away. We definitely plan to return again soon!

Cute and cozy

This is a great little cottage for relaxation and to get away from the city rush. The cottage is very light with windows that one can open for fresh air in every room. It is well stocked for cooking should you desire to do so. The rocking chair porch is always cool and shady. No matter how hot the day, one can still rock away in the cool of the porch. The side porch is a great place to sit in the evenings and watch birds and the neighbor’s cattle grazing. Ann, the cottage owner, is just wonderful to rent from. She responds almost immediately and her brother resides on the road above the cottage as well so they are there should one need them. The cottage was clean and is as the photos show.

An eclectic retreat!

We were pleasantly surprised upon our arrival to this quaint little home. It's obvious that it has been lovingly decorated and furnished with the visitor in mind. We were so inspired by the colors and decor that we bought a road sign from the antique store to add to our chicken coop! And we've even talked about painting our home in brighter colors!! We truly felt at home here and are trying to figure out when we can get back (asap)!! :) The only, and I truly mean only, downside was the hound dogs barking almost constantly while we were there. Not much can be done about that but it was a slight distraction. Nothing to keep us from returning!! We were truly blessed to have found this little gem!!

Quaint, Eclectic & Comfortable . . .

We rented Cloudland Cottage for the July 4th holiday weekend for our mountain getaway and we could not have chosen a more perfect spot! There was a number of things to explore at nearby Roan Mountain State Park, minus the crowds found at some of the other nearby mountain towns such as Banner Elk and Linville. Our main purpose was to explore the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area which we did, but we also appreciated the beauty of Roan Mountain and would likely not have visited the area had we not stayed there. The owner, Ann, has updated a quaint little mountain home with her vintage finds that she has transformed into colorful works of art. After a day of hiking and exploring, it was a wonderful retreat to come back to relax, unwind, and continue to enjoy the beautiful mountain views and listen to the running creek across the road. She made sure we had everything we needed for our stay, including the coffee and cream! She was also easy to contact, answered any questions we had and provided us with great tips for what to see and do in the area. We'd love to visit Cloudland again!

perfect mountain retreat

Loved everything about Ann's home. Location was perfect : we came to hike the Three Balds at Roan Mtn as well as Elk River Falls and Crab Orchard falls. Its a dry county, so bring wine/beer or adult beverage of choice before arriving. Comforts: The home was perfect for us. We had planned to sleep our two girls (age 8 and 5) in the same day bed but one proved to be a major "sleep kicker" so the pull out sofa was a comfortable option for our 8 year old. Linens and everything you could possibly need was there and Ann did a fantastic job of communicating with us in advance of our trip and during. Ammenities: the river across the street, the 3 different street routes up from her home offered amazing views and daily walks. The neighbors farm animals were a highlight for us/our children. They were the icing on the cake and half the fun for our children! Go expecting to relax and have wonderful meals on the side or front porch and take advantage of the gorgeous Roan area. Live music at the State Park was nice too - on Friday and Sat. night.

A Peaceful Mountain Haven!

We have just returned from a week long stay at Cloudland Cottage! It truly is an amazing place. We were looking for a place to unwind, enjoy the outdoors, and this place did not disappoint. We love to hike, so we took full advantage of all the trailheads nearby to hike on the AT. There are so many choices! The cottage itself is nestled in the mountains, and the view from the back porch, or the large window in the front room, is spectacular. Ann, the owner, has furnished it with whimsy and fun. She hand painted many of the pieces, and you will immediately feel at home. Because our main focus was to hike and relax, we loved having a full kitchen available. It is well equipped with not only eating dishes, but pots, pans, cutting knives, etc. We also had access to pantry items, which was great. We enjoyed being able to sit on the deck across the road. It it right near the creek, and is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine after a long day on the AT! Roan Mountain is a beautiful place, with it's own magic. Ann is a generous host, welcoming us with a wonderful basket upon our arrival. If you have any questions, she is readily available via e-mail or text. She also is happy to give you ideas of where to explore in the area for what interests you. We look forward to coming back to this area, and would definitely rent Cloudland Cottage again!!!

Amazing place- Would love to go back again

I stayed in this cottage twice with a large group. We had a blast! The house is cozy but had plenty of room to accommodate us. We were very comfortable. Being in charge of preparing the food, I found the kitchen to be spacious & had everything we needed. We had supplies of casual paper plates or could enjoy more elegant depression glassware, depending on our needs or mood at the moment. The Weber gas grill got a workout! I also loved views of the ranch next door & mountains in the very near distance. Our group took full advantage of everything the area offered from hiking to antique shopping. I particularly enjoyed a short road trip to art galleries/studios & Boone, NC. Being from Seattle, I am partial to the lushness of the great northwest. I was surprised to fall in love with the beautiful scenery of Roan Mountain & the Blue Ridge Mountains! They are a very special place & feel... that I tried describing to my family, but words just don't do them justice. It is a place you just have to see for yourself & you will definitely become hooked! The two porches or deck on the creek are perfect spots to gather & enjoy a bite to eat or a glass of wine. We loved just sitting outside & breathing in the fresh country air or gazing at the stars. The owner, Ann, has created a casual, down-home atmosphere where you can truly relax. It is a country cottage but has a different twist with its colorful personality. You won't have the awkward feeling of staying in someone else's house. It is a very inviting place where we all felt at home.

A nice stay, great hostess

The area was lovely and the weather was great. We were comfortable enough to sleep with our windows open, and for the most part (excepting the neighbor donkey and occasional dog bark)it was good, quiet sleeping. The creek is right across the street, and we saw many deer in the area. The cottage is wonderfully decorated and Annie is a terrific hostess with much information about area activities and restaurants, and warnings about access to certain items. The rooms are much smaller in real life than the lovely photos on the website. I was disappointed in the appearance of the outside of the home. The photos were clearly taken at another time, maybe another decade. Steps and rocks were green, and the porch and deck were rather weather-worn, and the siding could use a pressure-wash. The inside smelled like a damp, old house, which I realize it is. It took a full day of having the house open (on a sunny day) for me to tolerate it. My husband and daughter are less sensitive and didn't have an issue with it. There were quite a few spiders and webs and cobwebs. However, the bathroom and kitchen and linens were spotless. The dressers and cabinets and closet in the bedroom had clothes and things in them, so we lived out of our bag. The queen bed was very comfortable. My 69" daughter said the day bed was rather uncomfortable; we didn't use the sleeper sofa.

This was a cute cottage nestled on Roan Mountain. Very clean and peaceful. The owner had sweet little surprises for her guests like a bottle of wine and fresh cream in the fridge for your coffee. She quickly responded to any inquiry we had. Just an overall relaxing experience.

Sweetest cottage in Roan Mountain!

This is our second stay at Cloudland Cottage, and we plan to return next June for another visit. Ann is an exceptional host and she makes sure to provide for her guests' comfort. Extra blankets, snacks, and a fire in the woodburning stove were a great beginning to our Roan Mountain getaway! The cottage is obviously loved and cared for, neat as a pin and outfitted with everything you might need for a visit. Thank you so much, Ann, we feel like we are family! See you soon!

Best Stay

My sister and I rented this unique cottage for a weekend of hiking and relaxing. The cottage was the perfect location for area hiking on the Appalachian Trail. Only a few miles from Carvers Gap and other popular trailheads. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Our favorite feature of the cottage was the big picture window with its beautiful mountain view. The cottage offered every amenity we needed and more. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. We will return!!!

an escape into the lush, green TN mountains!

Really cute, old home up in the lush green Tennessee mountains! Everything was clean, check-in and communication was a breeze. The road up to the house was an easy drive and we enjoyed going on some early morning runs past all the nearby farmland. Stayed here with my family for a wedding at the state park and it was a perfect location. Would definitely come back again!

Charming, DelightfulCottage

I had a wonderful five day stay at Cloudland Cottage early May It was my first visit, with my sister and our good friend, who had both been here several times. The cottage is charming, beautifully decorated in an eclectic boho style, with furniture hand painted by the owner, who is an artist. It's fully stocked with all the comforts of home. We spent our time hiking the holler, exploring the area, antiquing and attending a Kentucky Derby charity event in North Carolina. But some of the best time was spent relaxing on the large deck overlooking the creek, enjoying wine (compliments of the owner), appetizers and good conversation with the bubbling water and the birds as our company. I so look forward to my return trip.

Absolutely Charming, Comfy and Eclectic

Three girls...my sister, our good friend and I...descended on Cloudland Cottage eagerly anticipating a fabulous four-and-a-half day stay. And we were not disappointed. It was all that we hoped for and much more. My friend and I are repeaters. My sister -- this was her first time here. The owner thinks of every detail to make your stay enjoyable and memorable, from the wine and treats that greet you after your long journey to the fully stocked bathroom, kitchen and pantry and the stockpile of wood for the cute wood burning stove on chilly nights. The home is beautifully decorated in an eclectic bohemian style with furniture decorated by the owner, an artist. We spent allot of time on the deck overlooking the creek sipping wine with appetizers, took some walks up the holler and thoroughly relaxed. Highly recommended!!!
