Fun, different

Definitely a new experience, a very interesting and fun trip. This one will stand out. Staying in a train car was a first for us and the animals were great. Store and game room on site. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Seems remote, however, short drive to grocery store, restaurants and just a little farther to Walmart. Great getaway. Would definitely recommend!!!!!!

See Bison in North Carolina

This was so much fun! Sleeping in a beautiful caboose and watching bison...I wish we could have stayed longer. The owners are such nice people and very great communicators. If you have kids, they would love this. If you are just a couple looking for a really cool place to stay, or if you are a daughter and mother like we were, it's a lot of fun.

Unique place to stay

We enjoyed our stay in this cozy caboose. The property was exactly as described. I'm addition to having the bison right across the lane there are also llamas, alpacas, goats, bunnies and other animals to see just a short walk from the caboose. Cheryl was very helpful and available via text with any questions we had. Waynesville, Maggie Valley and Lake Junaluska and the Blue Ridge Parkway are just a short drive away for plenty of things to do.

Wonderful time connecting with nature

Our 2 small children fell in love with the caboose! It was a fun experience and a good size for our little family of 4. Cheryl and Jeff were so welcoming. We enjoyed feeding the goats, hiking the grounds, playing on the playground and in the game room, watching the bison from the caboose, and close-up at the morning feeding. We'll definitely come back.

Great location quiet space

This a is a really unique and cozy place to stay. The location is super beautiful and extremely quiet. And who knew there would be alpacas, a mini horse, a mini donkey, goats, chickens, a turkey and the friendliest rabbits I've ever met? It was perfect for my husband and me and our teen son.

Great getaway vacation!

We booked this place for our 3 year old son who loves trains and it did not disappoint! The caboose was clean and felt very spacious. There was so much to do on the property we really never had to leave. The staff were so friendly and by the end of our stay we felt like we knew them. We got to watch the buffalo each morning and evening. The staff made sure that my son got to pet and interact with all of the animals and were so hands on with everything. We will definitely be back!

Fun time with the Buffaloes

We enjoyed staying here because we were close to the venue and away from everything! Fun going into Waynesville! Dog park was there. Our dog was intrigued by all the animals. Kitchen great and bathroom nice. Bed a little soft for us.

Great, fun place to stay

This was such a fun place to stay. Our six year old son has been crazy about trains since he could crawl, and in particular has always loved a caboose and has often talked about going inside one. This was a two night stop as part of a wider roadtrip from Ohio to South Carolina. We kept this part a secret from our boys (11 and 6) as we thought the sight of it would be more special that way. On our way from the Smokey Mountains in Tenessee, we stopped by the The Great Smokey Mountains Railway Museum and saw the steam train and looked at the model railway. We then drove onto the accommodation. Our boys were both excited, but our six year old couldn't believe he was getting to stay in a Caboose. He loved everything about it and loved being on the ranch too and being able to walk over to feed the goats in particular. He got to sleep up the top and woke each morning with the biggest smile! The ranch overall is great and the staff are all so friendly and welcoming. The games room was a big hit and feeding the animals. The lamas were in the field on the way to the tire swing and weren't the friendliest when we went for a walk so we went back to the caboose an alternative way! The model railway was amazing - so detailed. Thank you to all involved with making this such a great and special place to stay. The attention to detail in the caboose is amazing and so well thought trough. Everything was very clean and in excellent condition.

About the host

My brothers & my husband had shared a vision of expanding my fathers buffalo ranch when additional property became available to purchase. With all our knowledge & experiences combine we have built 4 log homes & have been renting them out since 2004. Once my husband retires from the US Army in about 5 yrs our dream will be to build our log cabin on the property & be more hands on. God has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. We hope you love the mountains like we have all come to love being transplants from a very flat NY!

Why they chose this property

My father had a love for trains & it was his idea to purchase the cabooses & turn them in to vacation rentals, We thought it would be very cool to tie in w/ the bison. Kind of gives it an 'ol western feel! Most folks think you have to go out west to see bison & they are surprised to find a herd in the Smoky Mountains of NC!

What makes this property unique

While staying at in our 1960's restored caboose we feel you will really enjoy the peace & tranquility of being secluded on 65 acres. The children will just love looking out the windows & literally seeing the bison roaming out in the pasture!
Another great amenity is the kids being able to "unplug" & take a hike to our custom designed playground as well as seeing the miniature horse, buffalo, goats & llamas.
