About this property

Duporth Lodge, Charlestown, Eco friendly upgrade

Experience - The Area... Within a short walk of the beaches at Duporth and Porthpean and half a mile from the famous 18th century harbour side village of Charlestown, a world heritage site, this former gate house to the Charles Rashleigh Estate at Duporth has been lovingly and sympathetically restored. Duporth Lodge provides a comfortable family home furnished to a very high standard and has been awarded both a Visit England 4* Gold and Green Tourism Silver Awards with a newly installed type 2 electric car charging point and ecotricity energy supply. The property retains many of the original features and is a great base to explore the many villages, attractions, walks and beaches the South Coast has to offer.  Duporth Lodge is ideal too for an out of season stay for couples in need of some much needed R&R with the adaptable property able to provide a cosy and comfortable base for two.  Charlestown only a 3 minute drive with its restaurants, tea rooms, pub, hotel and Shipwreck & Heritage Centre is the nearest village. The larger town of St Austell, 1.8 miles, has a good choice of supermarkets and shops, a railway station, bowling alley, cinema and 4 golf courses nearby. Porthpean beach three quarters of a mile has a sailing club and the fishing harbours of Fowey & Mevagissey are only 8 and 6 miles respectively. The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are within a 10 - 15 minute drive. Newquay Airport and the North Coast are within 30 minutes. See https://www.facebook.com/DuporthCornwall/ for more details. Stay - The Accommodation... From the gated gravel drive, a level path and three steps open into the entrance vestibule and to one side a gothic arched door leads into a smart triple aspect sitting room with oak effect laminate flooring, Smart TV including Netflix and BT Sport, comfortable lounge seating set before a gas coal effect fire and French doors leading to a covered verandah. A further Gothic arch from the vestibule leads through to the dining room with laminate floor, dining table and chairs, a guitar and digital piano for careful use and a carpeted staircase to the first floor. Cleverly tucked under the staircase is a small cloakroom with W.C and basin. Glazed double doors open into the modern well equipped kitchen with a breakfast table, two tub chairs set either side of the wood burning stove, TV and French doors leading out to the enclosed patio perfect for alfresco dining. From the dining room a carpeted staircase leads to the first floor landing with exposed beams rising to the apex of the roof. Off the landing are three comfortable bedrooms; a master double with king size Hypnos bed, Smart TV and en-suite fully tiled shower WC and basin and two twin bedrooms with 3ft Hypnos beds, both of which can be combined to make a 6ft superking bed. To complete the first floor accommodation is a family bathroom W.C. with corner bath, enclosed shower cubicle and basin. There is parking for three cars and when the driveway is gated the grounds are enclosed.  A garden hugs three sides of the property with a double garage for storage of bikes and beach gear and where you'll find a good selection of outdoor games.  There is a level grassed lawn, six steps leading up to the enclosed sheltered patio and a gravelled terrace; bird and bug boxes provide a haven for the local wildlife. Guests staying at Duporth Lodge have access via a secret code to the gated and private beach at Duporth! This secret information will be provided upon your arrival at the property. A fantastic week away
The property is beautiful and original features, such as the internal door shapes, remind you of the history. It has been beautifully and sympathetically restored to create a wonderful holiday home. A quiet location but within easy reach of local facilities and beaches. Would love to return one day.

Great little base
Lovely property and location. Able to use as a base but also roomy downstair for everyone to have space if needed. Just a little off putting is a smell that come and when across the stay. However, I hope this isn’t the case if you stay.

Lovely house, fantastic location
Great house! Very clean and has everything most other cottages don’t supply or charge extra for such as tv entertainment or internet. The house is a short walk from Charlestown harbour and which has some great bars and eateries along with a lovely costal walk to Carlyon bay.
