Little slice of paradise

I was unsure what to expect but this property was everything we hoped for. We were looking for a place with a dock for our boat within a short distance to the islands. We enjoyed fishing throughout the area as well as day trips to Tahquamenon falls, Soo Locks and Drummond Island. The property was clean and furnished with everything we needed. Will definitely rent this home again. Also important to share is the owner was very helpful and responsive to all my questions. :)

Wonderful home and location

We spent a month here, relaxing in a comfortable home, so well stocked with everything needed for cooking, laundry, bedding and all. The deck and property are terrific for enjoying the area. The house is close to wildlife preserves and to town shops and restaurants. A great place to vacation!

2 week family vacation

We enjoyed an excellent stay at the house. Everything was great. The outdoor fire pit, grill, and comfortable, nicely furnished home. We enjoyed sitting out on the porch in the mornings drinking coffee. Also, the extra fridge/freezer in the laundry room came in handy for storing extra beverages. The dock worked well for our boat. Plenty of plates, bowls, coffee cups and some great steak knives. Again, really enjoyed ourselves and helped make a great summer vacation in our favorite area with lots of good memories!

A little slice of heaven.

Beautiful cottage in a magical setting with the most gorgeous pots of flowers everywhere. Truly felt spoiled while staying there. Comfy furniture & beds. Everything you need to make meals & then gather around the long table to laugh & share stories. Sunrise on the deck with your coffee was the perfect start of everyday. Can't wait to go back again.

Great Getaway

This nice home provided the most amenities of any rental we've ever stayed in. The location was quite peaceful and had a lovely sunrise view. It was the perfect place for our family to come together and enjoy some R & R on the water. The kayaks were a real bonus as well.

Summer vacation

We stayed at this property for about a week this June and we had a pretty good time. We found that the furniture was not comfortable to lounge on inside the house, and the blinds in the bedroom did not allow us to sleep past sunrise because it was too bright. The outdoor area was nice, but we had to purchase chairs to have at the fire pit since all that was available was a few tree stumps. The dock was also questionably stable so we stayed away from it, which took away the option to fish for us. Some of the kayak paddles were broken too. The house would be great with a few improvements for guests comfortability and entertainment in mind. The most fun we had was brining our own yard games. Other than the few minor complaints, the views were beautiful!

Point Brûlée retreat

Very relaxing, quiet, and private place to stay. The home was very charming, beautifully decorated and well equipped with everything we needed. Access to the deck and water for boating was great. Extremely peaceful setting. Loved the large deck. Weather was perfect. Owner was extremely helpful, on top of everything, and answered questions promptly.

Beautiful spot, lovely cottage

The Cottage was both charming and very well outfitted with a complete kitchen, a grill, three kayaks, a fire pit, a private dock, and abundant places to sit outdoors and drink in the peaceful setting. Lake Huron surpassed expectations. This was our first visit and we were amazed by the freshness and clarity of the water. A kayak is definitely the way to see this gorgeous spot! Steve is a great host -- responsive to all questions and very welcoming. We enthusiastically recommend this rental.

Very nice family retreat

All of us thoroughly loved the setting and cottage. The location was perfect to immerse yourself into the Les Cheneaux blue waters and every changing skys, and the reward for being an early riser, was sitting on the dock with a coffee thinking how wonderful all of this is. We all enjoyed the kayaks on the property. Everyone loved the fire circle and chairs in the evening, as well as the cottage fireplace on the chilly August U.P. mornings. We hope to return again, next summer to camp Ack.

Loved our stay!

We loved our time at Hessel, and this cabin was perfect. The owner was easy to work with, and very accommodating. The cabin had about everything we needed in the kitchen for making meals,we didn`t have any problems with needing something that wasn`t there. Our children loved the kayaks and kayaked all around the bay in front of the cabin. I almost don`t want to give a review because I feel like this is a gem I want to keep hidden! We will definitely go back here again!

Magical week on the lake

We did not know at the time of the booking, but we were lucky enough to be the first renters at this property. It is a very special place, the pictures do not do it justice. The cottage is comfortable, with all amenities you could need, but has a very rustic feeling. The dishes are beautiful, furniture comfortable and we loved browsing all the books that are piled up all around the house. There is a TV, but we did not even turn it on, there was plenty to keep us busy. We spent most of the time outdoors, and there is a lot of space. Even though there are houses on both sides, you have a lot of privacy. There is plenty of green space for cartwheels and throwing football and playing soccer, or just relaxing in the hammock. The deck is spacious as well with comfortable furniture to lounge on, while enjoying the view of the lake. The best part is the lakefront, you have large dock on one side, with deep water for boats or swimming, small sandy beach on the other, and a rocky peninsula in between. Our kids had a blast swimming, skipping rocks, and otherwise playing in the water. They even found deposits of clay and made some creations to take home. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the dock in the evening and sipping wine while taking in the views. The dock was also my favorite reading spot, even though there were plenty other options. The owner was very welcoming and helpful and told us to call if we needed anything. He even made his kayaks available to us. It was one of our favorite activities, go on kayak rides in the morning and evening. We kayaked around the small islands nearby and along the shore. We watched the fish in the nearby nature preserve and observed a huge colony of gulls at sunset. There is also a nice wooded trail for hiking about a mile away, just be ready to get your feet wet, as the area overall is very vet. This was exactly what we were looking for for our family vacation. Thank you Steve for making your property available to us and for making us feel welcome!

About the host

Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. Denison University Graduate. I began coming to the Upper Peninsula with my grandfather (an exceptional fisherman) in the 50's as a child, and have spent time almost every summer since in the Les Cheneaux . Now, my wife and three teenage kids like to sneak up whenever we have the chance. All seasons up here amaze me.

Why they chose this property

This place is close to heaven, we believe. It is very quiet, yet we do have roughly a dozen neighborhood places on our point, mostly seasonal. You have a sense of community, however, neighbors are. It gives you remote relaxation, but is only about a 5 minute drive into the little town of Hessel if you need something from the grocery store. There is wonderful sailing, boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, sunning or reading on the deck.

What makes this property unique

Fabulous views, on the water, quiet bay in Lake Huron, yet on the lee of the Point Brulee Peninsula, so mostly quiet , calm water, perfect for water activities or just sitting on the dock and reading, bird watching or sunning. Easy access by car. Deep water boating, docking and navigating into Lake Huron and the Les Cheneaux Islands. Feels like an island.
