About this property

Glebe Barn, Detached Quaint Barn Conversion in Farlow, Shropshire DOGS WELCOME

Glebe Barn is a detached 2-bedroomed single story barn conversion sitting alongside Glebe Farm and set in 30 acres of our own pasture and woodland that visitors are welcome to explore. The holiday barn has an open plan living area featuring a log burner (logs included), flat screen TV with built in DVD player, fully fitted kitchen and a dining space with table & 4 chairs. Early November 2017 a brand new state of the art central heating system was installed, in 2018 new double glazed windows through out, 2019 new floor coverings and in 2020 a new kitchen. There's a twin bedroom with en-suite shower room, a double bedroom and a bathroom with bath and shower. The barn sleeps 4 people and has a travel cot that can be placed in either of the bedrooms. For anyone travelling with small children, there's a high chair and a fireguard that clips securely to the wall. The kitchen has a hob, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave & dishwasher. There’s fenced secure front and rear garden areas with a patio accessed via French doors from the living space. The private garden areas make it perfect for eating out doors and there's 2 seating areas with patio tables & chairs, perfect for family meals. Right next to the barn there's parking for several cars. If you're bringing bikes along with you we have a locked outbuilding they can be put in.
Bed linen, towels and heating and logs for the fire are included. We travel & self cater a lot and find it's so inconvenient to have to take items like washing up liquid, dish washer tablets, tea towels, dish cloths, pan scourers, salt, pepper, vinegar etc, so we provide those. We also supply you with enough tea, coffee, sugar & toiletries/loo rolls to get you keep you going for the first 3 or 4 days too. We accept up to 3 dogs and the gardens are well fenced, with the rear garden fenced with a combination high hedges with stock proof fencing and sturdy wooden fences. The rear boundary is all at least 6ft high. Sorry, we don't accept cats.

Positioned on the edge of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty (ANOB) you’ll discover a special and varied landscape with stunning views, an abundance of wildlife and a wide range of activities. For those wanting to step out, there’s a network of footpaths direct from the door. Within easy walking distance you’ll find the open areas of Silvington & Catherton Common, the Clee Hills, nature reserves and even a small pub that used to be the local jail.
It’s about a 30-minute walk to Catherton Common (owned by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust) a wild and beautiful place, crossed with footpaths and home to a litany of rare plants including bog asphodel, bog pimpernel, marsh lousewort and sundews.
Brown Clee, the highest point in Shropshire, can be seen from the window of the holiday cottage and is a short drive away - or a full day hike! Titterstone Clee Hill can be visited on foot from the cottage (about an eight-mile round trip) or just a short drive for the not so energetic if you just want to head up there for the spectacular views from the top. Elsewhere in the AONB are other famous walks including along Wenlock Edge, around Church Stretton, the Wrekin and of course the Stiperstones. If you're familiar with the well known Social Media page (the one with the blue F logo), you can find more info about the area on The Glebe Barn At Farlow page.

Perfect location and very comfortable

We had a wonderful long weekend at Glebe Barn. Our large GSD was very welcome, and he loved running through the fields and the woodland. It was comforting that the garden is stock proof, as is the woodland area. The bar was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. It is in a rural area, which is what we wanted. And only a short drive to Ludlow. Would definitely stay there again.

Complete Comfort

This year I wanted to "run away" to be alone at Christmas and could not have wished for a more perfect escape. Glebe Barn seems to be in the Middle of Nowhere but is so well placed for touring the area ... Even though I was only there for a short time. Everything you could possibly need was available and a later investigation found all kinds of extras alongside provisions for children and dogs! It was Christmas and there were some lovely decorations as well as a hamper of treats and some fridge basics. The log fire was already burning and it wasn't long before I was settled in front of the living room TV (there are 2 other tvs in 2 double bedrooms, one of which has it's own en-suite shower room and another bathroom with deep bath and shower. There was so much space and I felt immediately at home with plenty of kitchenware, not forgetting the dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. I do not own a dog but there are so many extras for pets, as well as young children needs and I very much want to tell my nieces about the facilities for any children and dogs. Those not used to dogs might find the initial "doggy smell" worrying but I found that by the time the log fire had taken hold and I was making my 1st meal it was gone! Glebe Barn is one of the very best self-catering establishments I have ever visited. It is so clean and organised as well as provision for anything you could possibly need during your stay. I so much want to return asap and it is rare I feel like that. Unfortunately 2023 is already looking like a busy year but I would certainly contact Glebe Barn if I ever found a few free days.

Very peaceful location in a very rural spot. A lovely cottage and the most dog friendly place that my wife and I plus our 2dogs have stayed in. Everything that we needed was there and the owners Jan and Steve were delightful.

3 Night Getaway,Glebe Barn, Farlow nr Ludlow

A lovely little cottage in a very peaceful and picturesque part of the country and a great base for exploring the lovely counties of Shropshire and Worcestershire. Jan was a lovely welcoming host and there if needed but left us to it otherwise. The accommodation itself is lovely and clean and comfortable and has everything you could need and the private back garden and terrace look out over lovely farmland and is fully enclosed so ideal if you have a dog, would definitely recommend !

The Perfect Place to Relax

Our family of four and dog arrived for a very relaxing week at Glebe Barn. Our plan for the week was to have some much needed rest and family time and Glebe was the perfect place or this. The Barn had everything a family could need, lots of thought had been put into what guests would need upon arrival (even our dog had an arrival goodie bag!) The wood burning stove was a real luxury whilst whiling the evening away playing games with our children. Jan and Steve the owners who live next door were extremely helpful and in no way intrusive. Jan went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and also took our children to meet their horses, and they had a lovely time grooming Gerry the Shetland pony, which made them so happy. There are also lots of local walks nearby up onto Clee Hills which was very accessible. The beauty of Glebe Barn is that is was quite remote but pubs and villages offering good food are only a very short drive away. We would definitely love to return, thank you for a lovely week.

Beautiful place for a stay away from everything

Glebe barn was in a quiet place called Farlow. The house was very clean and tidy. The views from the house were of the owners land which had beautiful cows in it. There was a swing seat in the lower garden and a patio set and bench in the front garden and a patio set on the new veranda. The beds were comfortable and there was extra bedding if you needed it...there was even dressing gowns for you to borrow and wellingtons for the children. The owner had thoughtfully provided a supply of teabags, coffee, sugar etc. There was also DVDs and books to read to suit every taste. The nearest shop was about 3 miles away and there was also a petrol station.

The property was excellent. And we were well looked after. Everything was clean and well thought out

We could not have had better owners they went the extra mile to help us. It is in a very quiet spot with very good walks. Sitting in the garden in the evening was a wonderful way to end the day. Everything inside was spotless and we'll thought out. Both of the dogs tails wagged that much I thought they would drop off. The one fault with the holiday was that we could not stay longer. We would recommend this as somewhere to go from youngsters to older people like myself.

Lovely home, perfect for our stay!

Lovely little home - very spacious. Lounge with wood burner kept us nice and toasty in the evenings (Jan and Steve kept us stocked up on wood and kindle for the fire!) & kitchen provided us with all plates/ utensils etc we needed. Bedrooms very spacious, clean linen and we were provided with towels and dressing gowns which was a lovely touch Location was great - you can easily drive to local market towns and lots of different walks you can explore. Would recommend visiting Ludlow when the market is on, seeing the views from Titterstone Clee Hill and walking along the river Severn to Bewdley. We also went to the Fighting Cocks pub for dinner one night which was very good food Jan & Steve really welcoming and really helpful, we had never been to the area so gave us lots of tips on best places to go and walks to go on, they have lots of books and leaflets on various places you can visit locally Would highly recommend!

Beautifully converted barn in rural location

The new owners Jan and Steve made us feel very welcome. They have bought new appliances, sofa, beds and bedding so that we wanted for nothing on our three night stay. Very comfortable and perfect for exploring Ludlow, Bewdley and the Shropshire Hills. It is darkest countryside so mobile reception is patchy. Wifi is available but not from within the barn (garden was fine) as the hub is next door in the farm house.

About the host

Host profile image
We bought The Glebe Farm after falling in love with the area and since the farm had a holiday cottage along side that had been successfully rented out we decided to up date and decorate and offer the barn as holiday accommodation. We owned a holiday let previously when we lived in rural Cheshire some years ago. We love the countryside, walking, local history and nature.

Why they chose this property

While we lived in Cheshire, we often had short breaks in the Shropshire area and particularly loved visiting Ludlow and the Shropshire Hills. Farlow is right on the edge of Catherton & Silvington commons and is a mere 8 miles from Ludlow. We couldn't believe our luck when the farm came on the market. It's perfect for us and we're sure you'll love it too.

What makes this property unique

Glebe barn is detached, having it's own well fenced front & rear garden area so ideal if you have a pets or children you need to contain! Our farm house is next door and we're here to offer any help or advice if needed. If you'd rather be left alone to get on with things yourself, that's fine too, but we're here if you need us. Guests are welcome to explore our 30 acres of pasture and woodland. Also living on the farm are our neighbours cattle, our horses, our 2 dogs, a can and a small flock of hens.
