Husky Ranch-Glacier & Bay Views! Charming Home-Gentle Wilderness--Serenity
You'll feel the serenity of Alaskan country & wilderness beauty staying out of town on 10 acres! A full remodel and sunroom addition after a bad fire in 2023 is allowing this to become a dream home we are looking forward to share with guests! Large windows frame postcard worthy views! A charming 'country feel' inside with 2 bedrooms and a large sitting room upstairs provide ample room. The wrap-around deck outside hosts BBQ and views you'll remember long after you're gone. Located about 15 minutes from town, one of the perks is the incredible drive out East End Road! You see Homer from a whole different perspective as you climb up to 1400ft above the bay! There is Fritz Creek General Store for staples, gas, & liquor will hopefully be open for 2025 after a bad fire. Also, this is "Alaska: The Last Frontier" country as the Kilchers homestead is in the Fritz Creek area only a few miles from The Husky Ranch! There is a State Parks hiking trail within a half mile of the ranch or just enjoy your run the place! Wildflowers galore! The house is 1800sq ft. and sleeps 6; 1 king bed, 1 queen bed and a very comfy double futon. Wi-Fi, smart TV's, all amenities! Early in the season is referred to as 'break-up' and spring is still waking up but come mid June, watch out, the cranes land in the fields and moose frequently cruise through the yard! This once was a robust working sled dog ranch so keep your eye out for the old sleds that grace the property~Peaceful but gently wild~ Complete comfort for the soul and a tranquil spot in our "Cosmic Hamlet-by-the-Sea". Welcome~~!

Phenomenal ever changing view. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was very quiet and felt secluded, yet an easy drive into Homer. Hope to return soon.
The view from this cabin is unreal! Cabin was extremely clean and comfortable. The living room and yard were great for the kids to play. The hostess was extremely helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again!
The home was perfect for our family. From the wonderful views inside and outside, the muffins and firewood waiting for us upon arrival, to the cleanliness and available kitchen essentials…
We loved our short stay here just outside of Homer! The views of the mountains and glaciers were amazing and the property was in a quiet location. We also appreciated the extra water bowls for dogs. The property managers were very helpful and kind (they made homemade muffins and told us where to find the best prices for gas and groceries!). We hope to be back next year for a longer stay!
This was our hub for Homer area visit of Alaskan tour. Property was very clean, comfortable and welcoming for me and my son. The continuous view of beautiful flowers (fireweed I think?) against the blue and white of Kachemak bay, surrounding mountains and glaciers makes you want to move here! Would definitely come back!
The Husky Ranch exceeded our expectations in every way! It was our first trip to Homer and we fell head-over-heels, not just with Homer but with this location. The cabin is exceptionally clean and well appointed. The views are indescribable (the pictures don’t even begin to capture the scope). Waking in the morning to this is the true Alaskan experience, you feel very small in this incredible landscape. We live in Anchorage and have already began looking at nearby properties for our own little piece of this Fritz Creek paradise!

Not a true 2 bedroom
Very beautiful views the cabin/house had a nice 1 bedroom with a converted attic as another bedroom, several things in the cabin did not work and all in all was a comfortable stay but not worth the $ amount I was charged. If it is one couple with children will work well not 2 couples.
This authentic log cabin was set in a stunning location outside of Homer and the hustle and bustle of the Spit. The fall colors were incredible - looking out any of the many windows we enjoyed the fall fireweed foliage paired with the bright greens of a moist climate, bright shades of blue of Kachemak Bay, purple mountains topped with white and crystal blue glaciers all affected by the ever changing skies. We were mesmerized by the stars on 2 clear nights. On one beautiful morning as we drove around the country roads in the area we came upon 3 bears, a moose, 2 sandhill cranes and a Huskie ranch. We loved our time here. As seniors, we were a bit concerned when we saw that the bathroom is downstairs (narrow and without any handrails) while the comfy bedrooms are upstairs but by the second night we felt more confident negotiating the stairs for the middle of the night bathroom run!
We would love to go back sometime to Husky Ranch!

Breath Taking Views and Comfortable Home
Perfect place to stay just outside of Homer. From the moment we drove up to the house we knew that we had made the right decision to stay here. The view is gorgeous and the grounds of the house were very nice too. We love privacy so this place was perfect for us. Lorraine is so welcoming and she makes you feel like you are a long lost friend that is happy to have you stay in her home. The house is very spacious, clean, and cozy. There is a very good vibe and energy in this rental. Every window you look out of has a pretty view. In fact there was one window that looked so perfect that you almost thought you were looking at a beautiful painting. This is the type of place you could stay at for a long long visit.
I loved the open floor plan on the first floor. The kitchen was well equipped and there was even beautiful pottery pieces to use. It was also nice to be welcomed to the home with a basket of homemade muffins and fruit. The fridge had yogurt too. There was coffee, tea, sugar, and spices in the cabinets for our use as well.
I loved meeting Pete, the property manager. We stood outside and chatted for well over an hour. He is such a nice person and I'm sure he would do anything to make the stay here perfect. It's nice that he and his wife are close by but don't disrupt your privacy. You can tell that it is the people that make this place so special.
If we ever visit this area of Alaska again I would definitely stay at Lorraine's Husky Ranch! We stayed there with my son and his girlfriend and their 2 dogs. We all loved the place and we wish we could have stayed longer. It's the kind of place that once you get there you don't want to leave.
Thanks so much for sharing this little slice of heaven with my family!
Namasta,
Laura
The property was lovely and cozy. Exactly what it said it would be with views that were anything but ordinary. Great place to escape the crazy world and get back to what really matters.
When we got to the cabin in was after dark. But when we woke up the next morning OMG!! I can’t say much cause the views just took my breath away!!! The cabin was perfect for what we needed. This was a trip for us to get away and relax to reflect on the past year of my husbands passing. From the cabin to the view and the host. This was a perfect place to come enjoy and relax. We recommend this place!! We will be back next year!!!
From the minute we drove up to the cabin we loved it we hadn’t even gotten through the door.
The view of the glaciers was amazing…the fireweed fields were gorgeous. We had all the equipment needed to make our meals….beds were comfortable.
We would highly recommend this VRBO. We will definately stay here again next year.
Pictures do not due justice to this dog-friendly gem
My niece and I stayed here with our 2 dogs and It was our favorite for our trip to Alaska. Very homey, quiet, with amazing vistas. On the second night, we watched 5 moose graze on the property. 3 were a mom and her yearling twin boys. Lots of thoughtful touches for us and the dogs at the house as well. We are so grateful for the opportunity to stay here
Thank you, Lorraine

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disliked: Location, listing accuracy
Unacceptable
There were multiple safety issues that made us need to leave:
The water that came out of the faucet was brown. We tried to clear it but it was gross.
There are very narrow and steep stairs with no banister or handholds. The strikes on the stairs were very narrow, as well.
The bathroom is on the first floor which requires traveling down dangerous stairs during the night.
Getting suitcases up the stairs was dangerous and almost impossible. We did not feel safe trying it.
The grate over the deck by the front door had supports that were very soft and rotting.
The front door would not stay closed and had to be held closed with a rock.
The rain was coming through the living room windows.
They asked that you don’t use the wood stove and keep the other heater set very low. There was no heat upstairs.
They asked that the shower curtain be sprayed down with a bleaching cleaning agent after each use. Breathing medical issues made this impossible.
We took many pictures and can send to you.
This rental was WAY OVER PRICED. We offered to pay one night as we could not leave during the storm. We asked that the other two nights be reimbursed.
Outside:very beautiful welcoming and cozy sitting areas to sit and relax and enjoy the view
Inside:Everything you can possibly need and more
Well equipped kitchen
Wide and great living room
And the view is all over
Good bath !
The upstairs bedroom like the pictures but it’s better than you can imagine
We enjoyed so much didn’t want to travel far so we can come back fast .
Hard to go away
Thank you so much for having us.
The Fritz Creek Husky Ranch was a great property. It shows it's age, but everything works properly. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is adequately stocked with utensils. Washer and dryer worked well (thank goodness) and there was a new dishwasher. By far the most stunning aspects were the large windows on three sides of the house that showcased the surrounding mountains, bay and glaciers. It is about a 20 minute drive from Homer, but a rural setting is of high concern for us. We immensely enjoyed our time at the ranch.

About the host
Hosted by Lorraine Temple
I graduated from University California Santa Barbara in 1984 and decided to head north before returning to grad school. I came to Alaska and have since lived a rather colorful life as a dog musher, boat captain, fish buyer, commercial fisherman, tour guide and many years in tourism! Needless to say, I never got that graduate degree, but I can certainly tout that I have a degree in Alaskan lifestyle and all the riches that come with it! I hung up my harnesses 10 years ago and haven't run boats in longer than that, but I continue to do motivational presentations in schools across the US, mostly in the western states. I've been doing that for over 20 is good and whereas I've never been married or had children, I've had more than a few beaus and lots of 4 legged children including my beloved horses which I cherish and honor. My current boyfriend Mike and I just bought a house in Cooper Landing up in the mountains on the Kenai River where we run Kahtnu Spirit Lodging. I'll have puppies all summer there for you to play with! Happy trails~!
Why they chose this property
The Husky Ranch is a special spot on the planet that seems to attract the right people at the right time who need a certain newness to their life or a change or a deeper understanding of their connection to this great place called 'life'. The 10 acres was originally homesteaded in the 1950's and has only had one other owner besides myself. It was perfect for my dog mushing business which I did for 20 years as I could access the back country easily; now, there are homes in way and private property to navigate. It offers views that are the classic incredible Homer views with the twist that it is closer to the head of the bay and therefore, feels like you are closer to the glaciers and alp like mountains on the edge of the Harding Icefield. It is a precious piece of land that I get to share with those guests that want to get a little further away from town and experience Alaska a little deeper. Namaste.
What makes this property unique
Entire house to yourself with views that will remain a lifetime with you! Kachemak Bay, the Chugach Mountain Range that drip with glaciers will mesmerize you and make you feel the authentic Alaska experience! You will feel at home with all the amenities supplied to make your stay comfortable, clean and quiet.
