About this property

A 200 year old center hall colonial between the Berkshires and the Hudson River

This property is located on an acre in a small village within easy walking distance of a gourmet country store, a tavern, and the post office. As you can see from the photos, this is a true family home with an up-to date fully equipped kitchen, a formal dining room, comfortable living room with a library of books, and many cozy spaces to enjoy.

NEARBY: An easy drive to Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, Hancock Shaker Village, the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Red Lion Inn, Chesterwood, historic Berkshire “cottages” such as Naumkeg and the Mount, the Berkshire Botanical Gardens, Kripalu, the Appalachian Trail, Olana, Hudson’s antique stores, the area’s fresh produce markets, and the Shaker Museum.. It’s a fun day trip to racing at Saratoga, to Mass MoCA, and to the Clark Museum.
The house features a new entrance and mudroom at the rear of the driveway. Downstairs the house consists of a large living room, a formal dining room, big eat-in kitchen, laundry room, a sun porch, the mudroom, and a full bath.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a half bath. The house comfortably sleeps 4. One bedroom has a double bed, the other, one double bed and a single. The sun porch on the first floor has a trundle bed which is great for napping. The porch, however, is usable only in the summer as it is not heated. Each upstairs bedroom has a window air-conditioner in summer.
In the living room there is a fireplace, and a TV with Apple TV. The fully equipped kitchen includes a microwave, dishwasher, a Sub Zero refrigerator, a gas stove, and all cooking utensils and tableware. The formal dining room seats eight. There is a washer and a dryer in the laundry room off the kitchen. All bed and bath linens, as well as table linens, are provided. The house is WIFI enabled.

I need 1 to 2 weeks notice to set the house up for rental as it is a family home and I need to remove personal items.

Charming 18th century home

Overall, our stay was lovely. However, it would be convenient to have a full bath upstairs where the bedrooms are located.

Historically accurate place; location was perfect

In town for my high school reunion. Wish we could have stayed longer. House was perfectly remodeled, very thoughtful. We had everything we needed. Old Chatham is quaint little town. Liked listening to the creek across the road.

Beautiful and comfortable escape

Timeless, elegant country home with screened porch and large yard. The house was comfortable and perfect for our family of five and dog. It was a short drive to Tanglewood, in a sleepy corner just down the road from Chatham. Our host provided all the needed information as well as recommendations in the area.

So Elegant and Comfortable

Such a lovely home, exquisitely decorated with a fabulous and extraordinarily well equipped kitchen. We have spent three Christmases here and it’s perfect for our family of 4. The kitchen lets us produce the annual Christmas feast without strain. The neighborhood provides great walking and a beautiful setting.

I Want to Live Here!

The house is as described, a gorgeous antique cottage oozing charm with lovely antiques and vintage touches. I fell in love with it instantly. It was clean, well appointed, and located in a great spot -- walking distance to town center. The cottage was more than big enough for four of us. Sally was a gracious host, super helpful and full of suggestions to help make our stay in the Old Chatham/Berkshires area more enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again.

Old Chatham House

This was a wonderful house for a quiet family vacation. The hosts, David and Sally, clearly have put a lot of time and attention into this house so it feels like a home. Everything was charming from the decoration to the excellent library and the sun room. The kitchen was very well equipped making it a pleasure to prepare meals there. The yard is also lovely for outdoor eating and reading. The area is also full of nice nature walks and antiquing trips. Highly recommend this property.

A Home for the Holidays

This 19th century farm house has been impeccably updated into a comfortably elegant country home. The house has been lovingly furnished with antiques, but the kitchen is perfectly modern with a great range, most every imaginable cooking implement and a Sub Zero refrigerator. We prepared our traditional turkey dinner and didn’t want for a thing.

Dear Sally, Thank You ! Marga--and dachshund Ben-- had the best time at Your 7 Depot Lane home. Ben was the hit of the Country Store, even invited by staff inside.... Marga and I enjoyed 2 dinners at Jacksons. The house and your hospitality were most apprecicated. DMM PS: I inadvertently took away a few brochures. I'll be haoppy to send to you. Also: I have a new project thanks to the Outddor sculpture show at The Mount !

Charmed in Old Chatham!

My husband and I had an amazing experience living at 7 Depot Lane. Not only is the hamlet of Old Chatham truly charming, but the house and property exceeded our expectations. The house is a home... filled with beautiful furnishings and everything one could ask for in a kitchen. We spent long afternoons reading in the yard and walking the many trails and country roads in the area. Took lots of day trips to the Berkshires and the many sites in the Hudson Valley. Old Chatham is a perfect location to explore the area. Enjoy this very special place!

A Perfect Stay

My partner, dog, and I enjoyed a wonderful nine-night stay at Sally’s place, which we’d recommend highly to any couple or small family visiting the Hudson River Valley and the Berkshires. The home and property are beautiful and perfectly kept; the kitchen is well appointed, and the window air conditioners got us through a sweltering week with ease. We loved Old Chatham and especially appreciated its proximity to everything we wanted to explore: Olana, Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, the Mount, Naumkeag, and all the attractions in Hudson, Williamstown, and North Adams. Sally’s suggestions about shopping, dining, and museums were spot on; we’re grateful and look forward to our next visit!

A return visit to a wonderful country retreat

We loved Sally's home on our first visit and were delighted to return after five years. Set on a quiet lane, the historic house has a screened porch and looks out over a huge lawn with mature trees, but is nevertheless just steps away from a good local tavern and restaurant. The location between the Berkshires and the Hudson Valley affords endless numbers of walks and things to do--if you can tear yourself away from the Adirondack chairs on the lawn. Sally is a wonderful, welcoming host and everything about our stay was perfect. We can't recommend this property highly enough!

Sally, Was such an amazing host quickly answering questions before we arrived even sharing ideas for the children. We found home meticulously cared for and had everything we needed and more.
