The harbour is the 'centre' of Porlock Weir, which is less than 1/2 mile away. There are two restaurants and a pub (all three are dog-friendly) and a range of individual shops such as tea rooms, Exmoor Glass, etc. The village of Porlock is approximately 1.5 miles and boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, petrol station, hardware shop, visitor centre and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms. Many of the shops in Porlock Weir and Porlock are open during traditional hours of 9 am to 5 pm, although hours are often extended during the summer season. Conversely, some shops also reduce their opening hours out of season.

Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 7 miles away. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrison's are both situated on the outskirts of the town and have longer opening hours), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.

The region
Exmoor is situated in South West Britain, specifically across West Somerset and North Devon. Often referred to as England's best kept secret, Exmoor is a wonderful holiday destination for anyone looking for a holiday in the great outdoors! There's so much to see and do, from short walks to long expeditions across the moors or horse riding, taking in a safari or sight-seeing at your own pace around the 'picture postcard' villages and hamlets.

Porlock Weir has a quaint little harbour and its own unique charm; the port has a long and colourful history. Today Porlock Weir is a quiet harbour and a thriving community that welcomes tourists every year, many of whom come to enjoy the pretty scenery, shops, tea rooms, pubs and local cuisine. On a fine day, the South West Coast Path offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the fabulous views across Porlock Weir and the bay. The coastal footpath links up with many other walking trails including Culbone, home to the smallest church in England. One of the more unusual attractions at Porlock Weir is the submerged forest. At low tide, the remains of ancient tree trunks arise from the grey clay soil. These desiccated stumps are the last remaining evidence of a forest that, once upon a time, lay five miles inland.

The position is lovely, nice walk every morning with the dog to the beach, although it did shelve too steeply for me to get to the water. Loved seeing some of the many horses, especially little Billy. The owners and other staff were such nice people and parking was easy.

There is not much that I can add to the 5 Stars all round. However we had one of the best holidays in years, in fact on a couple of days we were tempted to just sit and read on the patio, it was so relaxing.

We have had cottages for years but this one had the most comfortable bed and brilliant shower. It has large rooms, is really airy with excellent heating which you can adjust yourself and very well equipped. The welcome pack was very 'welcoming' after that journey down the A39. The grounds are beautiful and we were free to roam. There were dog proofed paths down to the beach, although if you are unsteady on your feet the beach is rather precarious. The photograph is shown from the back of the property, the front is stunning. The garden was dog proofed very well. Porlock itself is a lovely village with many good eateries. All in all it was perfect place for us and we have a lovely peaceful holiday.

We loved staying at Garden View - it was so clean, spacious and warm with lovely furnishings and a fabulous view out towards Bossington Beach. We felt a great deal of care had been taken to make this flat the perfect place to stay and how kind to leave a tea tray, with a lovely cake, for our arrival. The pictures give a completely accurate view of the property and the garden was a good secure space for our dog. If you're planning to visit Porlock for all the wonderful scenery that surrounds it, the great walks, tea rooms and pubs, Garden View is an excellent place to stay.

This was a really nice place to stay and the cake on our arrival was a most welcome and thoughtful touch. The pictures accurately depicted the accommodation, very comfortable, spacious and great views out to sea. There's very little to disturb the peace and quiet and the nights dark with next to no light pollution. Porlock is an area that we love and keep returning to, so I am sure that we will come back to stay at "Garden View".

A lovely apartment right on the beach (Stone beach) with some great inland walks on the doorstep. We used it as a base to explore Exmoor and the location was perfect with lots to do. The apartment itself is well equipped, comfortable and, after moving a few ornaments and jigsaw puzzles, toddler friendly! Everyone we met were friendly and our dogs were welcome.

Garden view is in a stunning location with a short stroll to a pebble beach. There are glorious sunsets from The beach. The gardens and surrounding fields are gorgeous and well kept. There were horses, rabbits and birds to watch. We were very lucky with the weather and could sit on the patio in the very comfy garden furniture. The apartment had everything we needed and is especially suited to anyone with walking difficulties. We love porlock weir and have been visiting regularly for the past 40 years and this was one of the best holidays we have had. Hope to book again next year.

The apartment was absolutely fabulous. It was really well equipped and spotlessly clean with really comfortable beds.It is a great location , has amazing views, and a delightful garden. We can’t fault it , and would definitely stay again. We are very familiar with the local area, and it’s a great base for walking. We had our two Golden Retrievers with us, and it’s also a perfect place to stay with dogs. The owners and housekeeper were really welcoming, and the lemon drizzle cake was greatly appreciated! Thank you Best of Exmoor. We have used you before and we are pleased to be able to support an excellent local company.

Spacious, clean accommodation, well maintained grounds and a really beautiful location. Despite Covid, there was a relaxed atmosphere and we were delighted to find that books and games had been left for our use. We were fortunate to have sunny, warm weather so the terrace furniture was welcome and the delightful paths through the grounds to access the sea and the marshes made it completely dog friendly too. Highly recommended

This was our first holiday in two years since pre-pandemic so there was a lot riding on it and we were not disappointed! The apartment was in a lovely location - you can see the sea from the garden and walk there in five minutes. The apartment was very spacious and airy, with two sets of patio doors and was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Sadly we always need to work on holiday and wifi and mobile phone signal could be patchy but this is standard for the area, in our experience and we were able to do what was needed. We love Porlock and Exmoor and are glad to have discovered another great place to stay.

This is our third stay at Garden View apartment and we brought friends who had not visited the area before. They fell in love with the beauty of Exmoor as much as we have . In spite of it being November, we were blessed with amazing weather and walked miles with our Golden Retrievers. After a few drinks at the Bottom Ship , we spent cosy evenings in the apartment and slept like logs in the very comfortable beds . Obviously, we will be back ! 😀 Thank you Best of Exmoor, we can highly recommend this company .
