About this property

Private pool, amazing sea view

The breathtaking view of the Ionian coast, the Gulf of Taormina and the Italian peninsula make the landscape from the villa absolutely unique. Just try to imagine it! The villa is built entirely of lava stone. It is spread over 2 floors, both bright, spacious and welcoming. On the first floor there is a large living room, a kitchen, a bathroom/laundry room, a pantry, a wonderful library and a room with two single beds, one of which is a queen-size bed. On the second floor there are two double suites with private bathrooms. The interior is tastefully furnished, as can be seen from the photos. The outside of the villa is an enchanting dip in the deep blue horizon. There are various charming corners, including: the pool area between the imposing lava stone façade the Gulf of Taormina and the Mediterranean Sea; the barbecue area with the typical stone oven (ideal for pizza); many relaxing corners... All this completely immersed in a typical Etna park (oaks, chestnut trees, melicuccoe - Minicucco in Sicilian - ...)

Electricity is included up to 150kWh per week. Any excess will cost € 0.40 per kWh.
Check-in: from 4pm to 9pm.
Check-out: by 10am.
Check-in after 9pm will be charged € 30 in cash to be paid on arrival.

Villa with fabulous views, but cold and remote in location
The photos of the villa, whilst accurate in their content, make the villa seem a lot lighter and brighter than it actually is. Admittedly the weather was not that hot during our stay, but the temperatures were easily 5 degrees colder at the villa location than at the coast. The villa was very cold inside and we declined to use the heating as we did not want to pay extra and also felt it would be very difficult to adequately heat such a large open plan area. The rooms were fine for four of us plus baby, but the wooden bedroom floors and stairs were very creaky! The villa is extremely remote - the windy road up the mountain from the autostrada turnoff takes a good 15 minutes. The views are undeniably awesome towards Taormina and across to the mainland but a car is a definite must. The local representative was helpful but lived almost an hour away. Etna erupted whilst we were staying at the villa! There was no danger to us but everything ended up covered in a fine layer of volcanic ash. The local pizzeria was very pleasant for an evening meal or a takeaway but there is really nothing else close by.

Didn't live up to expectations
This home is a good spot for people who want to get away from it all. Situated up in the hills, it's pretty remote from places like Taormina, Catania and Siracusa--all tourist destinations. The walls are stone and all the floors tiled. Because the weather was unusually cold for the time of year, we had to turn the heat on a lot which, unfortunately, resulted in our having to pay a lot of money energy (which we agreed to have deducted from our security deposit). Also, this home is advertised as a three-bedroom house but the first-floor bedroom is very small and contains a double bed and a very small twin bed. This would be okay for children but not for adults. The two second-floor bedrooms were very nice but older people and anyone with knee problems, might find the stairs difficult to navigate. There was no coffee maker (other than the type you use on top of the stove) and the oven didn't work. More bath towels would have been welcomed by our group. The property manager was lovely and did her best to accommodate us, making dinner reservations, recommending shopping areas, etc. We might stay there again if we visited during the summer, but we were less than thrilled with this rental.
