The summer in Lima starts in December and runs through to May. Daytime temperatures are in the mid 25º (Celcius) or 79º Fahrenheit and there is about 70/75 percent humidity. This is the most popular tourist season. The spring and autumn months are relatively mild. In the winter, the temperatures can be quite cool 15ºC/59ºF due to the humidity is high (98%), you probably feel that the locals exaggerated wearing too many clothes, but they are not exaggerated, they do so because they know, they live here. Rain is frequent and mist often shrouds the city.
The Jorge Chavez International Airport is located approximately 30 minutes from San Isidro, but in rush hour it could be about an hour. It hosts a range of international airlines from North and South America as well as Europe. There are regular commercial flights that arrive on a daily basis from various destinations. Getting through customs can be quite a time consuming so allow extra time for this. Lima also serves as the main hub for regional flights to places such as Cusco and the Inca Trail. To get from the airport to your rental home, your best option is a taxi. There is a counter of GREEN TAXI right out of customs or let us try to pre-book one for your arrival and negotiate the fare in advance. The taxis in Peru are not metered; unless you do this, you may end up paying much more.
Interesting Historical Sights to See
The Museo Nacional de Antropologia y Arqueologica is possibly one of Lima’s greatest attractions. The museum has one of the most impressive and extensive collections of pre-Columbian artifacts in the country. Visitors can see textiles, ceramics and granite obelisks of the Nazca and other ancient civilizations that lived in the region thousands of years ago.
The Museo de Oro is a private museum. It has unique artifacts relating to the treasures of the ancient civilizations. One of the most impressive displays is of golden treasures from the Inca Empire, Moche, Etc.
The Church of San Francisco is a marvelous display of Spanish Colonial architecture. Its unique geometric decoration is intricate and the church is a rare example of Andalucian Moorish design. It is most interesting to visit the catacombs that run beneath the church grounds. These can be accessed through the adjoining monastery which also has an impressive collection of ancient books.
The Historical Center of Lima is an amazing place to visit if you are interested in Spanish Colonial architecture. The center is made up of the Municipal Theater, the government palace, train station, the main square, and cathedral. In addition, there are several viceroyal mansions with Moorish-style balconies which can be found by exploring the old city streets.
The arena at the Plaza de Ancho in Rimac is where traditional bullfights take place. The bullfighting season is relatively brief running from October to November each year. Bullfighting in the Spanish style means that the bull is killed in the end. It is an impressive spectacle to watch if you have an interest in such activities.
Just 5 minutes by car from the property is "The Petit Thouars Handicraft Market", the best place to find hand-made crafts and souvenirs. Here, you can purchase beautiful ceramics, gold and silver jewelry, Baby Alpaca wool sweaters, textiles, traditional outfits, and alpaca fur carpets.
We could advise you on whatever you might require. Feel free to ask.
