Perfectly pitched!

Rustic, romantic and wonderfully tranquil. As our lifestyle at home is so hectic all we wanted was nature and peace and not a lot more. Thanks to Johnny giving us some food and cider to get us trough our first night as we arrived too late to shop! We cooked a lot in the cottage kitchen as the french market produce and supermarkets sent me off into cooking heaven. We didn't do a lot of sightseeing as the local walks and the canoe provided us with all we really wanted but St Malo and Dinan were lovely. The local Viaduct now provides adventure seekers with bungey jumping luckily we ran out of time! We shall return to re visit the Mill and the quiet kindness of Johnny and Lynne.

An "Island" of Peace and Beauty

Le Gite D'Ile is situated in a stunningly beautiful location. It is totally surrounded by water - the tranquil River Vire and the streams which used to drive the wheel of the mill. It is set in an extensive garden with magnificent weeping willows which together with the water lilies are reminiscent of Monet's garden. The gite has its own private garden also fronting directly onto the river which has much wild life. The accommodation, itself, is very small and although it had all that is required to be self contained the kitchen and bathroom facilities are, at best, only adequate. Our hosts, Johnny and Lynn, were welcoming, friendly and helpful with everything and in particular gave us details of scenic walks in the vicinity. The gite is in a peaceful, isolated situation, though not very close to shops and restaurants. It is, however, ideally situated to explore La Suisse Normande, Mont St Michel, Bayeux and the 2nd World War Landing Beaches. We enjoyed a super holiday in lovely sunshine and feel relaxed with batteries recharged. We would recommend it to friends and relatives.

A little piece of heaven.

A little slice of heaven. Set just far enough away from the main roads to be tranquil. But close enough for local amenities and day trips.Easy access to the ww2 landing beaches and other sites of interest in Normandy. We stayed in the one bedroom former mill house. You look out over the mill pond and weir. and the river below it. Full of wildlife. from Kingfishers to Coypu. Was magical. Our accommodation was compact and cosy. The galley style kitchen was perfect for our easy meals! (Well we are on Holiday.) and the sound of the running water outside was lovely, and not too loud to disturb your sleep with the double glazing. There are some lovely walks in the surrounding countryside for those days when you don't want to drive. Johnny and Lyn were great hosts. Helpful and friendly, with a great sense of humour. We will definitely return.

Wonderful and picturesque location

We loved our stay in our little mill house site. Our hosts Johnny and Lynn were very accommodating and gracious. The location was as beautiful as the pictures in the VRBO listing. We really enjoyed our visit to Normandy and portions of Brittany and in particular the seaside villages. The countryside was beautiful and so are the people of the region. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Idyllic place to stay but

Cannot fault the place its surroundings or the hosts. However even though I asked if it was suitable for disabled people although the 3 steps down to the gite were mentioned I was not told about the raised toilet and shower cubicle.WE coped and because I was sitting outside on the patio Johnny did bring an armchair for me.As I say great stay but one needs to be able bodied.

Beautiful

We stayed in the smallest gite out of the 3 and it was just perfect for the two of us. Everything about this place was amazing so pieceful and relaxing yet with everything you would need in a short distance. The gite itself has everything you would need. The views out of the windows are out of this world and we just sat all evening watching the wildlife in the water and out of the water. Even to have breakfast at the window no watch the wildlife come alive was something else. Our Host Johnny and Lynn were two of the nicest people you could meet and so helpful in all ways yet you wouldn't even know they were there when we was just chilling out around the gardens or at the side of the river. The only bad point I could thing of is that we had to leave this magical place and come home.

Glorious tranquility beside the river

This was our 4th visit to Moulin L'Eveque and managed to stay in a different gite each time! We have completed the "set". Each cottage is clean and well maintained with its own individual charm. We were warmly welcomed again by Johnny and Lynn, who have now become firm friends. We look forward to returning again next year! Apart from the obvious charm of its riverside setting, this is a wonderful location for exploring many of the interesting places to visit in Normandy. On this occasion, we made easy day-trips to Honfleur (delightful for artists and foodies), Bayeux and Coutances - don't miss the eccentric beachside restaurant Le Cale serving delicious moules mariniere. There is an interesting cave au vin in Beny Bocage that we also visited. Many thanks Johnny and Lynn and look forward to seeing you again next year! Stuart and Renate Webster from Wicklow, Ireland.

6 nights of bliss in the Normandy countryside

We spent 6 nights at this most delightful property and as we had been travelling for 5 weeks throughout France we were in need of a peaceful place to stay. Moulin Leveque provided such a place. A truly beautiful setting with the river running alongside the property. We stayed in the small cottage and found it to be Very comfortable with all necessary equipment to make a successful self contained stay. Our hosts, Johnny and Lynn were extremely helpful with local knowledge and suggestions, whilst remaining unobstrusive. We look forward to returning to this wonderful place. John and Helen

We received a very warm welcome from our hosts Johnny and Lynn on arrival. Gorgeous gite in a beautiful setting!

We had a wonderful 10 days at the gite it's a beautiful location and lovely accommodation. Perfect for us and our dog to enjoy! It can be used as a base to explore Normandy but equally we enjoyed spending a few days relaxing and using the canoe!

The site is effectively on an island surrounded by a river and small waterfalls.

The site had three gites. The presence of a cheerful and helpful owner made the holiday enjoyable and memorable. A communal barn made for a lively meeting place. As a canoe builder, I particularly welcomed the availability of a canoe with paddles and buoyancy aides. The not too deep slow moving river offered an enjoyable venue. A market town was less than 15 minutes away. The Normandy Landing beaches were great for swimming. Finally, the site was just over an hour from Caen.

A Piece of Heaven on Earth

We rented the studio Gite for a week in June. The house was very clean and Johnny and Lynn were on hand for any help or information we required. The cottages are located in a magnificent valley, with lovely walks. We brought our bikes and traveled to the coast to cycle the Normandy beaches. Excellent wi fi coverage available on site. Will definitely be back. Billy & Maude

A wonderful oasis of great beauty and tranquility

We had such a lovely stay here in the little gite that sits alongside the river. From every window there is a stunning view of the river and if you are lucky like me, you will see the kingfisher! The wagtails were great fun to watch and film too. This is a great location because it's an easy drive to some of the most loveliest of towns and villages both inland and on the coast. Every day there was somewhere different to explore and after a busy day out, what better than back here to enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the river! Johnny and Lyn are excellent hosts - nothing is too much trouble, even to the extent of Johnny cutting a path so that I could set up the camera to look out for the mysterious coypu ! Thank you both so much.

A little haven

We have just had a wonderful break at this idyllic place. Bird song a delight, and the cuckoo! Johnny (owner) most accommodating - thank you. As we had to cancel our previous booking, at short notice(problems our end) Johnny was very kind, when we rebooked did not charge. We will definitely be back, pretty area, and a splendid gite to go with it.

Le Gite D`lle

The most beautiful setting with plenty of local walks. The sound of the river is so relaxing, and catching a large number of chub was great! Johnny and Lynne are fantastic hosts giving you information and help. We saw kingfishers everyday, and used the canue on the river from the garden. Our gite was lovely with our own garden. Thank you again Johnny and Lynne for your kindness, hope to return again for more exploring, love Mark and Bev Howard.

Relaxing break in beautiful surroundings

Beautiful old mill setting, great for river watching, relaxing and chilling out - and even a spot of fishing! Good studio accommodation with everything you need and a private terrace and garden. The owner Johnny was extremely friendly, generous and helpful, without being intrusive. A very pleasurable stay and look forward to visiting again in the future.

Charming cottage in a wonderful setting

Johnny and Lynne were helpful and friendly, giving us suggestions for walks and ideas for places to visit and shop. The main room in the cottage was spacious and had lovely views over the river, which was home to some great wildlife, with lots of birds around and even some coypu swimming in the rivethe

Lovely paradise

Absolutely lovely destination for a romantic getaway or a family holiday away from cities, traffic and noise. The place is hidden away situated along a spectacular river, however very easy to find and close to a big supermarket. We have enjoyed a barbecue, deck chairs by the water, ping pong and an absolutely fantastic canoe ride down the river. Even though the cottages were sharing the same huge garden, you have the feeling of being all alone ! Johnny was an amazing host and proved to be very helpful in regards to local attractions. There is a fabulous golf course only 20 minutes away driving, and also a lovely stylish town by the sea front. Overall we definitely recommend this place and for sure we will return ! Thank you Johnny for your hospitality !

..and all was well with the world !

Once again I managed to find a place that was what it appeared to be in the advert! Arriving at night in the darkness the first impression we had was the presence of the river making itself known tumbling over the weir, it was the soundtrack to four lovely tranquil days at Le Moulin l'Eveque. Our time there was short so we didn't venture very far, we wanted to enjoy the unique setting and just relax so we paced ourselves with the river. We paddled the owners canoe gently up stream or just sat and watched out for the bright blue flash of the Kingfishers on the river highway. They even perched right in beside our window. Our little studio Gite had windows on two sides that opened onto river views under two great weeping willow trees so we kept them open for the sound of the weir and the birds in the trees when we were inside, but most of the time we spent outside, just being outside, by a river in a green place. It rained while we were there, but the romantic in me just saw the gloss on the trees and the ripples on the water and then the sun shone again and all was well with the world. Anyway the Barn was there, wide open on one side so we still felt we were outdoors but under a shelter if there was a shower, we played table tennis and listened to Johnny's cds and sipped wine and as the sun went down we heard the barn owls and the river and all was well with the world. Johnny and Lynn made us feel welcome as if they had know us from before. They provide a tranquil haven in which to recharge the soul and de-clutter the mind and yet it's just a short hop from the motorway, the bakery, the supermarket..........

What a beautiful place! Lost for words, just fantastic! Best holiday for many a year. Great location! Near to all places of interest. Johnny and lynn are great hosts. Enjoyed their company on walks and meals out. The wildlife is fantastic over cup of coffee in the morning, also we enjoyed Johnny and Lynn's company in the evenings with barbeque and glass of wine ( they are great company) So peaceful,tranquil-it's just a perfect place. Johnny and Lynn have great knowledge of area and can give you suggestions on what to do and see. We will definitely be back.

WOW

Within 45 minutes of getting off the ferry, we drove along the A84 and arrived at Le Moulin L'Eveque. What a fantastic place!! The views are just to die for and the peace and quiet is unreal. Unfortunately there was no fish on the menu as my husband (Mick) didnt quite get there but he will next time. Johnny and Lynn were perfect hosts and even the pets made you feel at home with the cats bringing in mice (Nuts) and birds(Felix). Our gite was cosy and comfy although most of our stay was outside just enjoying the peace and quiet, we will definitely be going back.

Le Gite D,Ile

The water cascading down the mill races either side of the Gite provided the soundtrack for our stay - seldom have I slept so well over a two week holiday ! The light and airy main room is very pleasant and all purpose . Whilst the kitchen and bathroom are both very compact it all works very well together . Being lucky with the weather meant that instant BBQ,s were the order of the day on the secluded and sunny terrace , watching Kingfishers and Wagtails at work, whilst enjoying the sunset over a glass of wine or two . Beny Bocage is recommended for local bread and mini market , with plentiful shops and markets all within a 35 min. drive . All of Normandy,s numerous attractions are pretty much straightforward and simple to reach from the Gite , the A84 motorway being indispensable to covering ground quickly . The best restaurant selection is probably to be found in Bayeux and is well worth a visit . This is , after all , a country Gite and the surrounding hills are full of tracks and make for wonderful walks , ad hoc or organized , through ancient woodlands following the beautiful river - other more daredevil activities are also available a very short distance from the Gite ! Advice from Johnny and Lynn on all topics is key to a relaxed and wonderful stay , bijoux boutique hotel seekers best look elsewhere , but country lovers ; this is a must !
