About this property

Bright & Sunny Home Near Zion National Park! And Pets are Free.

My very groovy, retro style home near Zion is one of the most popular vacation rentals in the area, and is also one of the few that is fully licensed and accredited by the city.

We love sharing this cute home with people from all over the world and I have put a lot of time and energy into making it just right before I opened my doors to guests for the first time in late April 2016. I love meeting people and taking good care of them, their friends and families and because of this I consistently get 5 star ratings from prior guests.

People love to stay here because it is so full of cozy charm and character with beauty right out the front door, leading right to Springdale/Zion within about 20 minutes with no crowds and congestion!

I also wanted to make sure my home was fully accredited and licensed to insure optimum safety for my guests. This means we have met all safety and insurance guidelines by the city, which ultimately means better protection and peace of mind for you.

I know you will love my cute home near wonderful Zion National Park as much as I do and I can't wait to share it with you! Daniel

Cute patio!
The patio was my favorite part of this place. Very cute and shaded in the afternoon, which was amazing since it was still 100° at 6:00 PM. The house didn’t have the best instructions other than checkout instructions. It took us hours to realize there was central AC (the house was set to 84° when we arrived). The house is listed as a 3 BEDROOM, but it’s only a 2 BEDROOM, with a pullout couch in the living room. Linens for the couch were found but the label was not obvious. It was very uncomfortable with springs poking me. The following night I shared a bed with a family member because I barely slept the night prior, only to realize at checkout that there was a bin the garage with a pad for the couch. Kitchen was large and nice. The posting had said there would be fresh fruit provided, but there was not fruit. Only 1 bottle of water, 1 can of LaCroix and a Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pie. Parking was tough. Short driveway and drop offs from the pavement to the gravel area so backing into the busy street was the only way we felt comfortable turning around.

Stale musty cigarette smell
The pictures online show a thoughtfully decorated house with an artsy flair on the outside of Zion National Park. The reviews all looked good, the price was amazing, so I booked this house for myself, my husband and our 2 kids for 2 nights as part of a 10 day Western US road trip. We arrived after dinner time, and as soon as we walked in the door all 4 of us were hit with a musty stale cigarette smell. It was noticed immediately, by all 4 of us. The smell was so bad my husband, who is the most laid back guy in the world, wouldn't bring our luggage in because he didn't want it to smell from being in the house. I contacted the owner who told me I could spray some fabreze in the house if it bothered me. He then continued to argue with me about the house being nonsmoking, and that no one had smoked in the house. If someone hadn't recently been smoking in the house, then at some point someone did because the smell is permeated into the walls and no amount of fabreze is going to fix it. My daughter is allergic to smoke and mold and because of that, and because none of us could tolerate the smell, we did not stay here and ended up at the fairmont 10 min down the road. There was a pool and the rooms were clean and it ended up working out, but I would not recommend to stay here. Also- this house is on the outskirts of a not so great part of town. It's thoughtfully decorated but due to the smell & the owner basically calling us liars, I would not recommend

The house was very clean and the host was great and easy to contact. It was well stocked with everything we could imagine needing for a few days at the park. Recommend if on a short trip.

Great Stay
We stayed here as it was close to Zion National Park and wanted someplace to come "home" to. This location is great because it was approximately 2 hours from Las Vegas (where we flew in/out of), Bryce Canyon, and the Grand Canyon (North Rim). The outside patio area is lovely in the evenings and we even got to visit with the neighbors cows :) Definitely would stay here again and recommend it to anyone wanting to explore the beautiful national parks close by!

Overall okay
Felt like it hasn’t been cleaned (or cleaned well) in a while. Spider webs in many corners. Floor and bed felt dirty and was uncomfortable. Inside felt outdated and hadn’t been touched in years. Manager was great and kind but the property wasn’t that great. Not our cup of tea.

Will stay here again!
We loved this house and the town of Hurricane! Perfect location and close to Zion and other hiking areas. The owner was very accommodating with our dogs and the backyard was fenced and very secured for them. It had all the amenities one would need a for 4 days trip. Bonus was having cows as neighbors.

Dog friendly home with great mountain bike riding nearby
We were in Hurricane to mountain bike in the area and wanted a place our pup could be happy while we were out riding. This place was perfect for us. We really enjoyed the shady back patio in the morning and afternoons.

The property description wasn't clear (or I missed it) on the bedrooms & bathroom being up a flight
The property description wasn't clear (or I missed it) on the bedrooms & bathroom being up a flight of stairs. As my wife has bad hips & knees, this property presented an impossibility for us to stay. IF the short flight had a handrail it might have been usable for us. As is, it presents a fall nightmare for ANYONE with stability issues. As we didn't find this out until we had entered the home, we were not eligible for any refund. The property owner did say he would refund us the additional one day we added to the visit & our cleaning deposit. So, all in all, I can't comment on any other aspect of this property since we didn't use it. On the other hand, the Comfort Inn in Hurricane is an OK place to stay...

Perfect spot for our Zion and Bryce vacation
This charming little house was perfect for us. We like to be away from the touristy areas and enjoy seeing a bit of the local neighborhoods. 20 minutes to Zion each day was just right. It was wonderful to come "home" at the end of the day. The house is spotless, quiet and well equipped. Would definitely recommend.

Country atmosphere
We had so much fun, it was like being in the country for us city folk. The neighbors cows come up to say hi, the sounds of nature made the backyard very peaceful. All the amenities inside made it so we never had to run to the store to grab something and after hiking Zions trails all day the beds were clean and comfy to come home to. Thank you so much for everything!

Cute and quirky
Very clean, but some things very old…peeling paint, no ventilation fans, old windows. Reminded me of my grandmothers house when I was a child. Decorated in SW style. Loved the back patio! Cows out back in neighbors yard.

Perfect home and location
We enjoyed all the space this home provided for relaxing after long days at Zion. The kitchen is well equipped and the laundry facilities are great! The weather turned on us and we didn't get to enjoy the inviting back patio, but the indoor amenities were great for evening entertainment. The town of Hurricane provides a good launch point for all there is to do in Southwestern Utah!

About the host

Host profile image
Hi I'm Daniel Pettegrew. I grew up in the beautiful, Rocky Mountains of Salt Lake City, Utah. I am an artist, environmental designer, entrepreneur and the founder of a non-profit foundation for world peace and sustainable living.

In 1987, I moved to Tokyo, Japan exploring that part of the world and it's wonderful culture for five years before eventually moving to southwestern Utah in 1992.

Since then I have traveled many places in the world and love experiencing all kinds of people, places, food and culture wherever I may roam this amazing planet. But the place I know the best and get drawn to the most are the brilliantly colored cliffs, canyons, mesas and mountains of sunny southwestern Utah and the American southwest.

During the 24 years I have lived here I have explored and experienced almost every nook and cranny of the national and state parks of Utah and nearby states, so I know many of the most beautiful and interesting places to explore, hike, bike, wine, dine, shop and experience life at it's best.

So come visit this breath-taking slice of Mother Earth and let me assist you in creating some wonderful new life experiences in Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon National Parks and beyond!

Why they chose this property

I love homes from the 1960s. This home was built in 1965 and has lots of wonderful charm and character and is surrounded by large pine, cottonwood and pecan trees. Something super nice in the desert. Like an oasis, a sanctuary really. I like that this home is very eclectic and cozy. Almost like a place Grandma would live, something special and rare in our busy, bustling world.
