A lovely stay in a super cottage.

This was our second stay in Wigeon Cottage and we had a lovely time. The cottage is well located, the view over the marsh lovely. It is extremely well equipped, we have stayed in plenty worse. Highly recommended especially for a dog friendly break.

Perfect Location

Wigeon cottage is a perfect location for enjoying the Norfolk coast with marshes and coastal walks right on the doorstep. The cottage itself is ideal, it has everything you need and was toasty warm in mid January. We’ve stayed here many times and hope to again in the future.

Fantastic property

One of the best properties we've ever stayed in. Beautiful decor, really comfortable beds, every kitchen utensil you need. Really warm, clean and a lovely open plan living, cooking and dining space. So lovely to come back to at the end of the day. Plenty of parking spaces too. What's not to like!

Lovely house, great location.

Wigeon is a very comfortable and very well appointed house. Located in a peaceful position in Thornham you are moments from the sea and opposite fields where you can see barn owls hunting morning and evening. We have stayed at Wigeon three times now and will definitely go back.

Another lovely stay at Widgeon

Widgeon cottage is a delightful place to stay in North Norfolk. The cottage itself is beautiful and comfortable, complete with all the modern needs required for an easy stay.....a real home from home. The location is superb with walks literally outside the front door. If you have dogs there is a 20/25 min ramble through the marshes just to the right of the driveway as you go out and across the road. Thornham/Holme beach can be reached by the raised walk way just down from the Lifeboat pub and takes about 20 minutes. You will come to the planked walk way with sand dunes to the right. The beach itself is stunning and you hardly see a soul. The pubs in Thornham are great too (Lifeboat has to igloo pods in the garden area which you can reserve and have heating if you want something special or a bit of privacy, or have dogs that aren’t great mixers). And the Deli is fabulous for food throughout the day (food is really good), a browse of the shop areas and has wonderful foods to take away. Enjoy your stay at this little piece of heaven....

Wigeon or Sea Holly?

Having stayed in both Wigeon and its neighbour Sea Holly we will be booking again for next year. The properties are both highly appointed with good quality equipment and everything is maintained to a very high standard. The location in Thornham is perfect for early morning and late evening dog walks, the views across the marsh are uninterrupted and teeming with wildlife. One request please can we have a sun shade/umbrella for the outside table at Wigeon. Comfortable, practical and perfect for us. Of the two we have a preference but are not telling!

Lovely cottage,excellent location

Enjoyed holiday so much we have already booked for August 2020. Spotless accommodation, superb location with three very good pubs serving excellent food within walking distance. Only two small niggles, the living room right side curtain was difficult to close and the freezer does need defrosting.

Fantastic location and facilities but!

Widgeon Cottage is ideally situated for whatever type of holiday you need. Close to the coastal path for walking either short or longer with return options via the coastal bus service. The beach at Thonrham is a bit of a trek but worth the effort. Brancaster beach is well worth working out the tide times to give you access. The eateries are all good. Some I found a little pricey but The White Horse at Holme next the sea is great quality and value and dog friendly. Our stay this time was dented a little by the poor cleaning but this I hope has been resolved with the owner and the booking agents. Only subsequent revues will show whether this is the case. The popularity of this cottage is borne out by the fact that I cannot rebook for the weeks I would like next year. Will still be looking to find bookings for 2020. Don't believe it is possible not to enjoy a holiday based at Widgeon Cottage

Great location for all the family.

We all enjoyed our stay. Grandad and Grandma, Mum and Dad and Arthur who celebrated his eighth birthday while we were there. There were things to do close at hand for all of us. The cottage was also ideal.

Great stay at Wigeon Cottage

Our family stayed in both Sea Holly & Wigeon Cottage as there were 11 of us. The majority of the children were in Wigeon due to the lawned garden. House is amazing, had everything we needed. Love Thornham and it's pubs, deli and Drove Orchard. Can't wait to come back.

Two weeks at Wigeon Cottage Thornham

This was our second stay at Wigeon Cottage the first being in March when we Braved the Beast From the east to spend another great week great week at Thornham. The location of the cottage is ideal with the North Norfolk costal path on its doorstep andThree fantastic pubs and a terrific restaurant within easy walking distance. We have eaten in all them and can recommend all of them. The cottage is new and modern inside its open plan style of living really suits the way we like to live. The decoration is outstanding in all rooms. the garden has patio which I think could be larger and then grass ideal for dogs. From the front there are amazing views across the salt marshes and this year we were lucky enough to have a herd of water buffalo in the field directly in front of the cottage. The only criticism I have is the TV its to small for the room and out of date i would like to see a larger smart TV installed. That said that I wouldn't stop me returning there the rest of the cottage is just to good. Highly recommended.

A lovely cottage in a convenient location

We love Thornham and Wigeon Cottage did not disappoint. There was ample space and the owner has provided lots of home comforts which were appreciated. The location is perfect for dog owners being directly near a footpath which also gave access to the walk across the marshes to the beach. The only thing we struggled with were high numbers of house flies and we did seem to get quite a few mosquito bites which could be due to the close proximity to the marshlands. Overall though we loved our stay and can recommend this lovely cottage.

first time stay of many more to come in the future

We booked Widgeon Cottage based on our stay next door At Two Hoots and the online details. We have not been disappointed. It is ideally situated for our short walking excursions and public transport for when we get tired of walking. We were early to arrive and met the owner, (cleaning the property), this was a pleasure in itself, a wonderful way to start a break. Entering the property the layout is simple and clever, one space so the lounge, dining space and kitchen all benefit and feel very spacious. The separate utility was much appreciated for keeping the dogs clean and dry as was the ground floor WC, by the senior members of our party, not the dogs. Upstairs the facilities are comfortable, the linen and towels quality. The water pressure is great and the showers exceptional. The over bath shower could benefit from a screen and a riser bar to save the floor. We managed to park 3 cars comfortably and the rear garden was a delight when the sun graced us with it's presence. The ladies in our group said they would have liked larger bath towel/sheets to cover their bits and the men requested some larger glasses for their beers but the champagne flutes were a surprise. All in all an excellent cottage. So good that I have already booked for September.

Amazing Cottage

We had an amazing stay in Wigeon cottage. The cottage was plenty big enough to accommodate 4 adults and 2 dogs, the enclosed garden was ideal for the dogs and a great place to sit in the sun after a day out walking. The cottage was clean and decorated lovely throughout, nice and bright and the sun streamed through the windows morning and evening. It’s location opposite Thornham Marsh is amazing, we saw Barn Owls and Marsh Harriers hunting from the cottage windows. Perfect for walks straight from the the front door. Definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

Lovely cottage in an even lovelier setting!

Nearly brand new with every creature comfort. Well fitted kitchen with very appliance you could ask for, and all functioning. Beds extremely comfortable and an absolutely cracking shower in the en-suite. Private and extremely secure garden, an essential for our dog Henry, who thought the pigeons good sport. Lovely walk round the reed beds. The entrance to this is a lane on other side of the road just to right of property. Lovely views over the beds to the sea. Adequate footpath to next hamlet, just right for first walk of morning and last at night. Good area for bird spotting with seats at intervals. Restaurants in area that offer good food at reasonable prices. The Lifeboat in Thornam. The Lodge on outskirts of Old Hunstanton. Exceptionally good food here. Need to book at both.

Review of Widgeon Cottage, Thornham Norfolk March 2nd-9th 2018. Excellent

This was our first stay in Widgeon cottage we have rented next-door Sea Holly cottage several times. They are both excellent with very little to choose between. We chose widgeon this time because the garden is grassed not paved and I think cooler in hot weather , not that made much difference this time with the Beast for the East snapping at out tails . If I had to choose I would make Widgeon my cottage of choice in the future, don't really know why because the almost identical, it might be that Widgeon has smaller coffee table and dining table making the room feel less cluttered, On the down side it has a smaller TV ,not important in the summer but out of season in room of this size I think that a 40'' should be entry level; that's the moan over. The house is fantastic and very comfortable, with two large leather sofas a great modern kitchen and dining area. The three bedrooms and bathrooms are great large ensuite and family bathroom ,can't really praise it enough. We have stayed in Sea Holly three times and Widgeon now once but have booked it again two weeks in June this year we would have booked again for November but couldn't get in, they are very popular . The area is fantastic with access almost at the front door to the costal path. The walk to Thornham beach along the top of the dyke and boardwalk across the dunes is a must. The whole area is very dog friendly. The three pubs and Shucks the Yurt, all allow dogs in. The food in all of them is amazing: but for me shucks is the stand out venue. The Coast Hopper bus stops at the top of the road ver handy and dogs are allowed on the bus so take you bus pass if you have one. I could not recommend the House ore the area more. Just a beautiful property in a fantastic location.

We had the best time celebrating my father's 80th at Wigeon Cottage. The location in Thornham is perfect, with views across the fields frequented by lots of birds and wildlife - we saw a Barn Owl and Muntjac deer amongst many others. The house is beautifully decorated and with the underfloor heating, we were nice and warm. Can't praise it highly enough.

One of the best!

We are one of the many guests who stayed at, and loved, the original Sea Holly bungalow so we expected Wigeon Cottage to be lovely and it was! The location is super. The new cottage is tasteful, cosy, elegant and very well equipped. Only problem is getting a booking! It's so popular that next year is already quite full. We didn't want to leave. I could move in permanately tomorrow! Expect to return soon - if there are any weeks available that is!

Am amazing break

Wigeon cottage is in a perfect location for amazing beaches and pubs and we stayed during Norfolk Restaurant Week which topped the holiday off with lovely food at great prices. The cottage itself is beautifully presented and the owners have paid great attention to details so it has everything you could need for your holiday and more. We also got to meet the owner Jenny as we were leaving - her and her black lab were both lovely. We’ve already booked to go again :).

Fantastic cottage in Thornham

Have stayed in cottages in North Norfolk for 25 years and this was one of the best. We could not fault the interior which was decorated to a very high standard throughout with excellent pictures and wall art. The open plan kitchen, dining & living room was really light and airy with comfortable settees and every utensil you would need in the kitchen. Upstairs was equally well decorated with comfortable beds and great views across the marshes out to sea. location was outstanding with 3 quality pubs only yards away and one of the best walks in the area, straight out of the cottage along Thornham staith and onto a long sandy beach. Overall great place to stay in a cracking location.

Holiday at Thornham

My son, myself and his girlfriend really enjoyed our stay at Wigeon Cottage. Convenient for beaches at Thornham, Titchwell and Holme and we walked from the cottage on several occasions without using the car.. Views over the marshes were quite spectacular and we saw several wonderful sunsets from the cottage as well as a lovely barn owl. The cottage was very comfortable, well equipped and quiet with a back garden where one could enjoy eating outside. The weather was mostly hot and sunny which added to the enjoyment of our holiday as did the closeness of "The Lifeboat" for evening meals ! We stayed over the Bank Holiday weekend so the cottage was expensive but well worth it. We would definitely recommend this cottage to other visitors.
