Urlaub mit allen Sinnen

Hier stimmt einfach alles! Ein herrliches Ambiente, freundliche Gastgeber, Traumlage und aller erdenklicher Komfort. Nicht versäumen sollte man die Führung durch das Weingut mit anschließender Verkostung der hauseigenen Weine

Relaxing !

We rented the Belvedere for almost 2 weeks. It was a very relaxing holiday. We enjoyed the house and the pool a lot. The house has 2 bedrooms. If needed a 5th person could sleep on the couch. There is a washing machine and dishwasher, so really relaxing. There is a oven and a microwave. And all you tools you need to cook a good meal. However there are plenty of restaurants in the neighborhood so it's better to go out for lunch or dinner. The pool is lovely, cleaned every day. Marianne is really good host and willing to tell you all you want to know about the location and it's attractions. Marianne and her husband really made our stay great with a some home made cookies and lovely desert wine made at the estate. When we arrived all kind of food was available to start our first day, you feel right away very welcome. The belvedere house has a very large outside terrace. It is covered so that you can sit outside without burning in the sun. It also helps to sit outside when the wind is very hard. The pool was nice, around 30deg every day. It is covered when there is nobody to prevent small kids from dropping in. There are a lot of small beaches in the surroundings, let's say 20-30 min drive. The estate is fenced. Every house has a parking spot. The estate is not safe for very small kids to walk around alone due to trip hazards. Overall: we loved it, we loved Marianne's help and the Greek food and sunshine !!

Sublime property, charming hosts, a treasured stay

The elegant Marianne Larsson-Karacostas and her polymath husband Paulos Karacostas have lovingly transformed an historic property once fallen into ruins. With patience, attention to detail, and respect for the land and the spirit of the Montofoli estate, they have created a sublime retreat to restore one's spirit. Set into a hillside above their ancient citrus groves and vineyard, famed for its prize-winning sun-dried sweet wine, the magnificent Venetian manor house with its Ottoman addition connects to the vineyard by a long, wide stone staircase, flanked by two lions, and running down to the vines. Ancient Greek columns lie about the gardens where lavender, rosemary and mint scent the air, and terracotta urns artfully grace stone walls and terraces. Pink geraniums, peach roses, loquat trees, Cyprus and pine trees create arbors for the birds. Church bells and sheep's bells and bees add to the bucolic atmosphere. To stay at Montofoli is like stepping into an 19th century painting, but the accommodations are comfortable and beautifully appointed. Each cottage has unique charm and privacy as well as a well-equipped kitchen, stocked with coffee and tea. Marianne delivered a sumptuous basket of delicacies for our enjoyment: her glorious marmalade, honey, an enormous hunk of delicious local cheese, bread, wine, eggs, yogurt, apples, clove-studded biscuits, tomatoes. Both Paulos and Marianne devoted so much time to answering our endless questions about Greece and Greek politics as well as to helping us plan our visit, recommending superb restaurants, hikes, drives, beaches, but we ended up spending more time enjoying the sublime peace of the estate. One feels the Greek (and Swedish!) spirit of hospitality in Marianne and Paulos's attention to their guests' comfort. We have traveled widely for many, many years, and our experience on Evia and the Montofoli estate in particular was exceptional. The spirit of ξενία, xenía, the ancient Greek "guest-friendship" is alive at Montofoli.

About the host

Hosted by Estate Keeper

Host profile image
Our father bought this timeless estate in ruins in 1986 with the dream to revive it. He restored the historic buildings with respect to the land and its history. He also produced a unique sweet wine, Montofoli Estate, from the vineyard he planted in 1986, following the steps of his predecessors who cultivated this fertile land.

Following the restoration, we opened the estate to the public with the wish to contribute to the cultural advancement of the region: the estate is today open to guided tours, wine tastings, private dinners and hospitality: you can book one of the historical villas – each one with a distinguished character – and spend time with family and friends. You can even rent the estate for your private events, be them weddings, festivals, conferences etc.

Why they chose this property

Montofoli Estate is famous for its uncommon, effervescent AMBIENCE that provides a sense of belonging, which can only be experienced on site. Enjoying a stay in one of the villas within the estate is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that guests treasure for years to come.

What makes this property unique

Authenticity, historical place, large surface villa, quiet, vineyard, fantastic views near a small town still authentic.
