Rugged coastline, ancient towns, lakes and forests beckon both holidaymakers, beach lovers and hikers alike to come closer and enjoy wonderful expanses of diverse countryside.

From the inland lakes and forests located in the northern extremities of the Morbihan department to the sandy and craggy coves in the South with rocks that have been washed by the ocean over centuries look out towards the sea and offer some of the best views in Brittany. Little walkways take the adventurous to places from bygone years, through walkways that take you to little coves that have been there since time began and that keep their charm, created by nature rather than man.

Morbihan has much to offer those who seek a balance of relaxation and activity. Keen golfers have a range of options available within easy reach- the 9 hole, Golf du Rimaison course is only 16km from the cottages. 18 hole courses can be found at Kernic, Ploermel and Auray, all less than an hour away.

Excellent fishing can be found locally in the rivers Scorff, Blavet and Sarre. Those heading to the inland lakes can enjoy beaches and fishing too and a host of other attractions including, walking, swimming, cycling, kayaking, sailing and horse riding.

The closest town to Fourdan is Guemene-Sur-Scorff where you can get provisions, take in the local sights/attractions and introduce yourself to French cuisine.

The beaches of the south coast welcome the visitor who likes sandy beaches, which are safe, and at Auray, the port of St. Goustan offers you a small medieval fishing town with little street cafes that overlook the water. On a larger scale Vannes is also a port and here the winding streets take you back in time, whilst on an upbeat note, the shops are up to date and all the trappings of a large town within easy reach.

For those wishing to recuperate from illness, the thalassotherapie centres of Quiberon offer patients relaxation in natural healing waters, which are renowned worldwide and have been proven to be beneficial.

Morbihan offers a wealth of architectural marvels, and has wonderful churches; abbeys and you can step back in time and visit the Chateau at Josselin, or the old towns of Vannes, Rocheforte-en-Terre, La Gacilly, Quimper, Pontivy and many more. The historically inclined tourist will find themselves pulled back into the days of the megaliths, huge standing stones that tower above the earth along the coastline at Carnac, geologists can seek out the lay lines of this magical place.

Food is wonderful, and a three course meal can be had for as little as 10 euros a head, although for families, there are a host of self service restaurants that offer children’s menus at very reasonable prices.

All in all Morbihan has something for everyone, not just in the main summer period but throughout the year. From Easter to the end of October you can enjoy the beautiful countryside in pleasant weather.

Yew is one of three newly renovated cottages (gites) with 2 bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 people.

A lovely family break

We had such a lovely stay in Geoff and Chris' Gite. The place is perfect for young children with swimming pool, trampoline, table tennis, swing ball, swings, hammocks, badminton and loads of outdoor space. Chris and Geoff are so friendly and helpful - lovely on site hosts. The weather was cooler and wetter than we expected at this time of year, but there were lots of activities to fill the time for our 3 and 6 year old boys. We particularly enjoyed Utopia Ecoparc in Camors (like Go Ape), the Sunday morning market at Abbaye de Bon Repos, the playground and shops in Guémené-sur-Scorff, the standing stones, beach and restaurants in Carnac, and the adventure park Ballade de Pere Nicholas. Wish we'd have made time to hire bikes and cycle along the canal, or pedalos on the canal at Saint-Nicholas-des-Eaux. Maybe we will have to come back! We also found the best baguette we sampled was at the boulangerie in Guern.

Just what we ordered

Booked a week and stayed longer, I suppose that says it all. Totally relaxing, we cycled from here and also from nearby places too, and certainly a nice place to come back to afterwards to unwind. Our hosts where good too, and we enjoyed our chats with other guests. Overall excellent. thank you Geoff & Chris.

Lovely relaxing place to stay with kids

The most relaxing holiday we have had since kids. The accommodation was great and the pool and surrounding garden area was perfect to keep the kids entertained.... so much so they didn't want to go anywhere else!

Don't hesitate; book now!

If you are wondering whether to book this property, then I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a lovely cottage in great grounds. The pool and garden games are excellent and the hosts really lovely and helpful. Beds very comfy and kitchen well equipped. It is a good area for exploring Vannes, Lorien, Carnac, Concarneau etc but also lovely rivers and canals close by. Easy drive from St Malo ferry, but other options just as convenient. Local towns are quiet but have everything you need. Don't risk missing out on this cottage!

Ideal for relaxing getaways.

A lovely stay at Yew - a beautiful old cottage in rural Brittany. Peaceful and relaxing, with friendly and helpful owners nearby if required. The cottage is very well equipped containing everything you might need and has a lovely shared garden and pool for children.

So peaceful. Fantastic for children

We had a wonderful stay in Yew Cottage with our two children aged 2 1/2 and 9 months old. Set in a beautiful rural location, it was wonderfully peaceful yet not too far from amenities. It was so great to come back after a day out and just sit and appreciate the tranquillity. The cottage was nicely appointed and well equipped, particularly for us with children. There was even a hand blender for making pureed food for our daughter. Our son loved being able to run safely around the extensive grounds and everything that came with it. Especially the trampoline and the swing. We all enjoyed the swimming pool. Even our 9 month old daughter was able to go in because it was so lovely and warm. Geoff and Chris were very friendly and always on hand if you needed anything. I would definitely recommend staying here and wouldn't hesitate to come back again.

Brittany Rural Idyll

We, my wife and 11 month old and I , spent a most relaxing two weeks in the Yew Cottage. It is one of 3 cottages, set in immaculate and spacious gardens. The property is well located for touring and sightseeing , but also very tranquil and peaceful, ideal for recharging batteries. The pool is perfect for those hot days, and the sound of birds in the mature trees makes for a desire to spend lazy hours absorbing nature. The cottage itself was immaculate , clean and fresh, and very comfortable, a home from home, with all "mod cons" , including dvd player, cd player , wifi , and air con. The owners , Chris and Geoff are wonderful, and have created a little piece of paradise on their wonderful property. They are on hand should you need them, and happy to give local advice, but are not intrusive. We will be returning for two weeks next year . Why?: Safe area for children, with plenty laid out in garden for all ( badminton , swingball, swings, pool, hammock and hanging chair from tree). Quiet, rural location. Its well located to see Britanny We loved the small towns nearby , Melrand, Guemene s Scorff, Guern, especially the small French restaurants. Lovely English owners. With children or without, we wouldn't look anywhere else, and highly recommend staying here. Shadi and Angus Kirk

With thanks to Chris & Geoff...

Thank you Chris & Geoff for making our brief stay with you such a treat. When you arrive at the property what immediately strikes you are the peaceful surroundings and truly beautiful setting. The surroundings are lovingly maintained and the garden is really fun but safe for children to play in - perfect for families? Although we didn't use the pool on this trip there was plenty fun to be had on the trampoline, in the tree house and games with Jack the dog (really wanted to bring him home). The property ticks every box for us and it was great having Chris & Geoff on hand to help with any local information we needed too, love the local Creperie (great cidre). Would highly recommend a trip to 'The standing stones' @ Carnac and check out the picturesque villages of Rochefort en Terre & La Gacilly, thanks for that tip Geoff. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a relaxing time, peaceful undisturbed sleep and the chance to explore a beautiful part of France whilst staying in idyllic and tranquil surroundings. Looking forward to our next visit soon. Emma Louise et famille x

Beautiful cottage.

We have just returned from spending five days at Les Verts Pasturages. The description is perfect. It is so peaceful. We stayed in Yew cottage and it was beautifully maintained and furnished. It had everything you could possibly need including a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave. There was even books and indoor games for children if the weather isn't too good. The cottages are surrounded with grass and there is a swimming pool. If you have children there is plenty for them to do including a rope swing and climbing frame. There is a very large supermarket a short drive away selling everything you may need. The owners Chris and Jeff are lovely and are there to answer any questions or to advise on places to visit. We will definitely go back again and will be recommending it to our friends and family.

Great holiday in the peace and quiet of Brittany

If the aim of your holiday is to have a peaceful haven from which to explore Brittany, this is the ideal place to stay. The quality of the accommodation and facilities are excellent. The cottage is set in spacious gardens with a good sized pool for the kids (and parents) to enjoy. There are bikes available to explore the local area and a hammock which my 15 year old son had to be forcefully removed from on multiple occasions when we wished to go exploring. The English owners live on site and were always available to answer questions and recommend local restaurants / places of interest etc. The week we booked just wasn't long enough - we are now seriously considering returning next year!

Family friendly relaxing cottage

We stayed in Yew Cottage for a week in June 2012 and the weather forecast was not looking great. However despite the showers, we had a fantastic stay. Our hosts Geoff and Chris were on hand to chat and get advice about the local area as they live on site. The cottage was equipped with all the gadgets you need for a baby/child - stairgates, highchair etc and a surpise was having BBC on freesat so we didn't miss the Jubilee celebrations at home on tv. All the outdoor entertainment a toddler or child could wish for is provided; a swimming pool, treehouse, trampoline, sandpit, garden swings, boules, swingball and 2 very entertaining and child friendly pets; Jack the dog and Chance the cat. We explored the local area with our car, as the cottage is very rural, surrounded by pea and wheat fields. It was so peaceful and not another neighbour to disturb you. Our toddler Oliver, was in tractor heaven as so many were seen on the roads and fields in the area ! We explored lots of historic towns (Auray, Concarneau, Vannes), their markets and the beach and standing stones at Carnac, all about an hour or so away. If the weather had been kinder we would've spent more time lounging around the garden at the cottage and Oliver would have everything he could wish to play with in the garden. We hope to return as we just feel we were getting to know the region and loved the child-friendly cottage and outdoor space. We would certainly recommend the cottages to anyone and driving in France is a breeze !
