Great Location
This house features a great location on the beach near Hanalei. What you're paying for really is the location and proximity to the beach. The house itself, while comfortable, shows it age and a lot of deferred maintenance. 3 of the bedrooms were great, 2 bedrooms, however, had very little air flow and were rather hot. Many windows throughout do not open and some leaked significantly during heavy rains. Both trash cans were full upon our arrival and a message to the owner went unanswered. The house did have all the necessities we needed for a comfortable stay. Overall, if you're simply looking for a large home on the beach, this is a great place.

Very disappointing
The owner canceled last minute without warning. But he did is a favor. We found the best place a couple doors down and walked to this property, it is nothing like the description. It’s over priced and looks like it’s crumbing It has very close neighbors. I would not stay here. After being so upset and disappointed, I’m happy that he canceled on us, we saved thousands and found a better property!

Beautiful Location
My family, consisting of 10 adults, spent one lovely week enjoying Hanalie staying at David's place. We had ample room for each of the 10 to sleep. Three of the rooms are exceptional with cooling trade winds blowing into each of these rooms after dark. Two of the rooms require fans as gratefully the house is not air conditioned. The house is well-provisioned. Everything was in working order. There are convenient outside showers/faucets for easy clean-up after spending time on the beach. The house is just remote enough providing our group with much needed relaxation away from city life. There are neighbors but not like in the town of Hanalie. The house is a short drive to Hanalie, excellent surf and snorkeling beaches, and Ha'ena Park, a short walk to one delicious restaurant, and a medium walk to a local convenience store and smoothie place. Being so close to the ocean and not being air conditioned (again, gratefully) creates its own challenges for upkeep which were present.

My family and I stayed at this home for a week before moving over to the otherside of the island. The house did not have any windows that opened and no a/c. When you opened the doors to let the air in, it caused condensation to build up and everything seemed wet including the sheets. The floor was cracked in the kitchen and water seeping through. The BBQ was so rusted and it took my husband a couple hours to clean it enough to BBQ on. The worst thing was, the owner claimed we broke a bed frame in which we did not. We are very respectful people who take care of things. He did not give us our deposit back. I can't imagine what bed frame would cost that much! The furniture he has in the living room is outdoor wicker furniture and extremely uncomfortable. Beware! Do not stay here!

Will be back
The house was a private retreat; it had neighbors but you never knew they were there. It comfortably accommodated all 13 of us; I enjoyed having my coffee on the lanai ever morning being grateful. We were there to celebrate our 30th Anniversary and the weather was not the best but we made the best out of it. The house had all the basic amenities needed; even beach chairs and boogie board for use. Will definitely be back and look to book this property during a different time of the year.

Amazing location, property pics dated.
Overall a great place vacation, would have been nice to have better updated pics of the house. The place could use some TLC in areas but the location was perfect for getting away from it all enjoying time with the family.

Go for the backyard! Amazing location :)
The backyard was beautiful, with great sunrises! The house, however, was not. The dishwasher did not work, there was no electricity in the upstairs bedroom. The trash cans were full at the curb the entire week we were there. We had 8 people for 8 days and they left 1 garbage bag. The kitchen chairs were wet and 1 was broken- I should have taken a picture because he charged me part of the deposit. I needed to ship my daughter's feeding supplies early and he refused to accommodate. The master bedroom ceiling did indeed have bugs/ ants crawling on the beam. With all that said- The backyard was amazing.

Disappointed
We have rented homes every time we have vacationed in Hawaii. Can honestly say we have never been disappointed until this trip. The location was wonderful but the condition of the house was horrible. The pictures and video lead us to expect something completely different. There were 8 of us in main house and the family area could not comfortably hold us. There was not enough living area seating and what was there was very uncomfortable. The dining table was an outside one with 6 chairs that felt like they were going to fall apart. Kitchen was very difficult to cook in. No more than 2 people could be in there at one time. If you used the dishwasher, which leaked on the broken tile, the refrigerator could not be opened. a note on refrigerator told us to only use the ice and not the water dispenser. The kitchen was not stocked adequately for cooking family meals. We battled ants constantly and not just in the kitchen but in the upstairs master. Alarming to open your eyes in bed to a trail of ants on the ceiling beam. The staircase and upstairs carpet was dirty and smelly. Had to wear socks. We could not find the switches for many lights. Turns out many of the lights were missing bulbs or did not work. We reached out and a handy man came on 2 separate occasions. 1st one was with the wrong light bulbs and 2nd one with some of the correct lightbulbs. In the 2nd visit it was discovered that 2 light fixtures in main area were not even hot wired so hence were not fixed as well as the microwave light over the stove. We found a clip-on light so we could cook but we were also concerned about 2 elderly family members tripping due to poor lighting. We also let them know that the studio screen door was not working. That never got fixed either. The house didn't have air which was expected but what we were surprised at was that doors didn't have screens or they didn't work. We may have overlooked some of these issue if it were not for how filthy the house was. This was not a case of a week or the last renter but much much longer. One of the many examples was walls and corners of main area having dead insects which obviously had been sprayed but not cleaned. We had to buy cleaning, disinfecting and insect supplies. Was very difficult to enjoy our time together at a great location and would of wanted to know real condition. Location and check in get a great rating. Rating required on the rest or we would not have given ratings on the other points.

Comfortably sleeps multigenerational family of 12
We had 12 family members - 5 teens, 2 in their 20’s, 2 in their 50’s, 2 in their 60’s and 2 in their 80’s. We had room enough to all have our separate spaces inside or outside and share meals around the kitchen/living room areas. Having the waterfront made for a relaxing experience. Just sitting in the home is magical, yet alone being able to boogie board, lounge or attempt to surf right off of the back deck. We had two rental cars, however, often times individuals would just choose to stay in our homes oasis. The home has very minor rust, wood swelling that is just a given for a true beach front property. We wanted to stay longer and will plan to return in the future.

Our Family Was Happy Together At This Beautiful Place on Earth!
Overall - great experience for our multi-generational family of 13. The location is amazing, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The attached guest house was perfect for our elderly parents. The home is about 10 minute drive to downtown Hanalei. It has a practically private beach just steps away. It is 2 miles to gorgeous Napali Coast/Haena State Park, but please note, you need to make reservations 30 days in advance to go into the park. A very short walking distance is Opakapaka Grill, and a coffee shop/gallery at Hanalei Colony Resort. We actually enjoyed the road closure to Hanalei because it was so quiet on the road and in town. Overall, we loved it! We really couldn't beat the beachfront location to accommodate such a large party at a price point we could afford. Some things to note: there is no air-conditioning, but there was a prevailing wind that kept the place nice and cool. Sometimes the wind was very strong! In summer, the ocean out front is calm enough to swim for confident swimmers - not littles. We brought our own fishing and snorkel gear to use - which we did. There is lots of walkable beach, but deep sand - so it's a workout. The house is very dated, and funky - but we're okay with all of that. It's far from luxurious - but there is everything needed - including laundry (a huge bonus). Enjoy!

50th Anniversary Celebration
The location right on Hanalei Bay is amazing . The house was built in the 80s . There has been some attempt at renovation, granite countertops, fixtures in bathrooms but don’t expect a modern house and appliances. Being right on the ocean salt water takes its tole on everything. That being said it worked for our three. generation family. Lots of beach toys, boogie boards , beach umbrellas, etc. There were life vests for small children the list goes on. There are five bedrooms sleeping ten with a foldout couch and a futon in the master. One bedroom is a studio apartment across from the main house. We had a wonderful time just don’t expect a brand new modern house. The beach in front of the house is uncrowded the one caveat is that the surf is quite rough there at least it was in June and not really safe for small children who are not strong swimmers. All that being said we had a great time, there are plenty of other beaches very close by.

Beautiful Location, Needs Upgrades.
The house was spacious enough to accommodate our large group. The location is spectacular. The beach is absolutely magical. We appreciated the BBQ and the beach toys/ outdoor setup. The owners were friendly and responsive. Overall we enjoyed our stay, however a little bit of upgrading would go a long way. First and foremost I would get rid of the carpeting and all the throw rugs. It is way to damp a climate for carpet and the house would be exponentially easier to clean without it. New beds, bedding, and towels would make a big difference too. A few of the beds were extremely challenging.

We really enjoyed our stay for 2 weeks. David was quick to answer any questions. The description of the property is good. Except the studio apt. is really quite a nice separate area. Which was nice for the honeymooners in our group. There are plenty of water toys, snorkel gear, bag chairs, and coolers. We had both kinds of bbq's going. The gas and the charcoal. Depending on who was in charge of the grill. There were several baby gates which got moved many times with the toddler we had. The bar hust down the beach had wonderful mai tais, and pretty decent food. Stop at Costco or Walmart and stock up before you drive out. There is a small grocery store about 20 minutes away in Hanalei. Good restaurants too. I highly recommend this wonderful place if you are looking for peace and relaxation.

Overall, the location is really good, I liked being on the North part of Kauai, away from the towns and traffic. That was really the only good thing. There are many deferred preventative maintenance items for the house that make it just OK at best, but probably best described as poor. When we arrived on the first day, the microwave was broken, it would not latch or run, the gas grill that the listing promised did not have any propane and the charcoal for the other grill was soaking in a tub of water. We had to make a trip back into town to buy charcoal for cooking, even though we were just in town grocery shopping. The owner promised us a new microwave and gas for the grill the next day. He did not deliver either of the things until two days later. The microwave was small but it worked, we had two small children, so it was helpful to heat up quick meals. The grill, now that it had gas, was disgusting and would not light. I had to go back and forth over text with the owner that it was not running and he made me feel like I was unable to figure it out. As I was troubleshooting the grill I finally gave up when I got tired moving around all of the cockroaches in the grill. That night, the electricity went out in the bedroom I was sleeping in, which means that we did not have a fan, which is necessary while sleeping at this house, it was hot. I Let the owner know. It was about 36 hours before an electrician arrived to repair. At that time, the owner did send over a brand new grill for us, that was great, but we are now on day 4 of 7 and grilling is the preferred way to cook here since it is so hot in the summer and there is no A/C. The electrician temporarily repaired the wiring, but told us he had to return the next day to do it correctly, and, if possible, do not use the outlet until then. In the meantime, the router went out. On the day the electrician was coming, I had to wait for the cable guy to show up to troubleshoot the problem, while the rest of our group went to the beach. Eventually, these issues were repaired. Overall, the location is great, the house is OK at best and I would expect that, during your time there, things will break or not work. The house was not well kept and if the owner would spend a little time on small preventative maintenance items it would probably go a long way. If there are other options, I would choose those over this house, however, if this is your only option, it works, but just not as advertised.

Beautiful home on the beach
The property was well kept overall. The house was very nice and as long as there is a breeze it stays fairly cool. The beach access was a bit overgrown. The property managers were friendly and easy to contact. I would stay in the house again. Great for families.

The Home exceeded my expectations. We were there with 9 people of all ages. We all slept comfortably. The proximity to the beach was great so that the little ones( even though it was winter surf) had a fabulous time doing what kids do on the beach. I would definitely do this again.

Amazing
The location was perfect. Unfortunately the week we were there temps were cool and the water was little rougher than normal, but hearing the ocean every night was perfect. House was well stocked with plates, glasses, and other items for our party of 8. Was extremely nice that my married daughter & her husband were able to stay in the attached studio and have some privacy. The couple of times I had to email David he quickly responded. If we are fortunate enough to go back in a couple years will definitely look to book the house again. Thank you for sharing!

Can I say location! Location! Location! Being right on the beach and listening to the waves all night you can’t ask for a more relaxing trip! We had 14 in our party and we were a little cramped in the rooms, but quickly adjusted and loved every minute of it! We couldn’t ask for a better home to fit our big family. We had plenty of linens, towels, and pillows. Everything worked great! The property manager was always fast at responding to any email I sent. (Within 24 hours).
