Located just 45 minutes west of Minneapolis, Minnesota and just south of the town of Howard Lake, you can enjoy a vacation close to home! The dutch lake farm GUEST HOUSE is a contemporary, private guest house, lofted above a garage for maximum views of Dutch Lake and picturesque fields and woods through floor to ceiling windows. The virtual glass living room is one architectural element of your own private accommodations including a private entrance, living room, dinette with small refrigerator and microwave oven, bedroom and full bathroom.
Enjoy the two docks and use of the canoe and fire pit. Explore the private 80 acre setting with a trail through fields, a hardwood forest, and a Christmas tree growing farm. Enjoy all the nature that Minnesota has to offer while canoeing, hiking the trails, fishing off the dock by the lake, bird watching, stargazing far from the city’s light pollution, or simply relaxing on the double hammock under the 200 year old cottonwood tree. Quick Get Away

Did a little ice fishing. Enjoyed the quiet loft and played some cards. Would be great in the summer months with the lake. trail, and fire. It was a chilly week-end outside.

Great stay west of the metro

We had a great stay here for a short weekend out of town. The space was clean and exactly as it was pictured when we booked. Check in was easy and the property was beautiful. We would stay again without hesitation.

Great Loft Great Host

Very clean and organized, very cozy loft. We enjoyed such a pretty view and atmosphere. Greg was such an amazing host and his response was very quick every time.

Excellent escape.

We stayed here to attend a wedding nearby. The accomodations were exactly as described. The space was very clean and comfortable. Host family was very nice. Location was convenient but also secluded and relaxing. We highly recommend.

Great one-night stay less than an hour away from Twin Cities

We were looking for a quick getaway to celebrate our anniversary and this place was perfect. Great weather to take in the trail around the property, take the canoe out for a paddle, read a little in the hammocks and then enjoy a fire lakeside at the end of the night. Greg and Christie were great hosts. Good recommendation for dinner at Bait & Hook just west of town for some seafood. Highly recommend staying there.

Beautiful spot!

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. It was gorgeous, just as pictured (or more so). The place was clean and very cute and nice, had everything we needed. The bed was super comfortable. We took the canoe out and watched a bald eagle above us for quite some time. The hosts were very kind and had excellent communication. Overall would highly recommend!

Perfect place to reset!

I needed a break from the chaos of life. I was able to relax and do what I wanted, when I wanted. Jigsaw puzzle, wine, snack, nature walk, sit by the lake and yoga. I can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful Lake Getaway!!!

Unbelievably quaint and gorgeous. The lake and accommodations were above and beyond. Perfect for a weekend getaway with my husband! Hosts (and puppy Picasso) were kind and friendly!!! So thankful for this place.

5 Star Experience!

Such a pleasant overnight stay! I came for quiet space to focus on a creative project and I couldn't be more delighted with the outcome. Quiet, serene, comfortable & clean, peaceful, surrounded by natural beauty of the lake, sky and grounds. Christie is an excellent host, and even allowed me extra time to complete my work. I highly recommend this place!

Perfect Place to Enjoy The Dog Days of Summer

Beautiful property with all the amenities you could want and need. Christie and Greg were the sweetest host. They even helped us light the charcoal grill. I haven’t stopped recommending their place since we got home.

Perfect for a quick getaway!

We had the absolute best time staying at this beautiful property! It was perfect for a night away- just a short drive outside of the twin cities but it felt like a different world. It was quiet and the property is beautiful. The guest house was spotless, we loved the high ceilings and natural life. The bonfire pit and view of the lake really made this place special. Nothing beats enjoying some (complimentary!) coffee on the dock in the morning!

Kidless getaway

My husband and I spent our kidless anniversary hidden here playing cards, reading and just generally relaxing. We loved the vibe of the windows and property. So relaxing. The view was beautiful and the stars were amazing. The only complaint was that the maitress stunk.

Relax and recharge

Was a lovely unique loft that allowed us to unplug and enjoy the beautiful weather. We walked the trail, took the canoe out on the lake, but we didnt want to light the campfire because with no rain, its dry and with the breeze, we weren't going to risk it! Definitely would recommend.

Perfect place to relax.

My husband and I spend a night here to celebrate our anniversary. We didn’t want to leave. We spent hours relaxing in the hammocks and going out in the canoe. We enjoyed exploring the property. The space was immaculate and well decorated. There is only a small fridge and microwave so plan accordingly. We went into town and had great burgers at troubles bar and restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful and Peaceful

This was a beautiful and peaceful place! We really enjoyed the use of the canoe to get out on the quiet lake, and caught some fish. I enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks. It rained part of the time during our stay but that didn't matter- the beautiful windows that went to the floor made it enjoyable to sit inside and look out at all the nature. The decor is so modern and fun. We loved hanging out here. There is a small fridge and microwave along with plastic plates and silverware...so you can do a microwave meal if you'd like to eat in. Otherwise there are restaurant recommendations in the area. We really enjoyed our time here and the hosts were great!

A relaxing and refeshing stay! Would return!

Once a year I go on a solo retreat. I stayed at the the guest house 6 days/5nights.It was SPOTLESS-looks just like the VRBO pics. Christie was great-quickly answering questions, & checked in a few times to see if I needed anything. The property is beyond beautiful & well maintained. I tried to captured its' essense-many pictures...Picasso the sweepup was theraputic. Everyday I played with or sat with her. I relaxed on the dock w/morning coffee & reading.For wi-fi I used phone hot spot for my computer. I wish they had a small sink in the kitchanette-going to the bathroom for water/rinsing etc. was inconvenient. An incredible stay! I like exploring new towns-all within 8-20 min. Check websites for days/times open. All antiues stores also have repurposed, new & locally made items. HOWARD LAKE-Vintage Exchange, Trouble's (bar & grill), Mocha Moose Coffee (in a gas station-not great) ANNANDALE-Homestyle Country Cafe (delicious breakfast & strawberry/rhubarb pie, Vintage Patina-it says 4,000 sq. ft.-didn't seem bigger than other antique stores), BUFFALO-Lakeview Antiques & Collectables, Buffalo Nickel Antique Mall, Buffalo Books & Coffee (great book selection/coffee/banana chip bread), The Porch Antiques-2 levels-FAVORITE SHOP), COKATO-Double Shot Coffee (large space to relax/read-fantastic coffee/baked goods), Delano-Edie Maes Eatery (american breakfast & chinese food) huge breakfast portions. There are several apple orchards in the area. Dominos & Trouble's deliver pizza.

10/10 would stay again just to hang out with Picasso (not to mention it's a perfect getaway)

My husband and I stayed here for a few days at the end of our honeymoon to take some much-needed introvert time to relax and decompress after the stress of pulling off a wedding. The Dutch Lake Guest House is the perfect getaway to experience a balanced mix of modern accommodations and natural beauty. We loved being able to enjoy the outdoors and sip our coffee by the lake, go out on a canoe ride or walk around the trail, and hang out in the hammocks, while still being able to go inside to enjoy the modern comforts of some a/c, a shower, the kitchenette, and a cozy bed. We didn't end up using the fire pit because it's been such a dry summer, but that is another feature for guests to enjoy when conditions allow. Christie and Greg are super nice and helpful and let us know how we could contact them with any questions or requests. The first house is on their property but over our 4 night stay we only saw them a couple times when we happened to be outside at the same time, so my husband and I still felt like we were on a private getaway with the solitude to enjoy time with each other. The cherry on top of the whole experience was being able to hang out with Picasso the dog, who is the cutest, happiest, and fluffiest pup ever. Overall we loved our experience and highly recommend this for anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing trip!
