Tucked among the aspens with an expansive view of the mountains, this 3,100 square foot, four master bedroom, six bathroom lodge is your home away from home. The lodge is centrally located five miles outside of Fairplay Colorado in Warm Springs Ranch for quick access to Breckenridge and Buena Vista. Many guests refer to the Lodge as their "Base Camp" to explore the Rockies. There is a definite warmth and welcoming feeling to this special home and area that will help you get away from the busyness of your daily life. If you have to work, we have StarLink Internet for great WiFi.

Tasteful mountain-inspired décor can be found throughout this Colorado mountain home, from each of its four master bedrooms to all three of its large living areas. Hardwood floors with in-floor radiant heating and exposed log ceiling lend charm to the spacious great room area. Relax by the gorgeous two story stone fireplace or enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck while watching the sunrise over the mountains.

There are four primary suites in this lodge, one on the main level with a jetted tub, and all have walk-in closets & private decks or a patio for your comfort and scenic views.
The great room boasts a two story stone fireplace with floor-to-ceiling windows offering unparalleled views of the Kenosha and Tarryall mountain ranges and Pikes Peak in the distance. You can see for miles over the aspens and the Valley of South Park.

The kitchen, with stainless steel appliances and the adjoining dining area are a chef’s and entertainer’s dream and perfectly situated to enjoy casual living and views of the mountains. The spacious kitchen is fully stocked with all kitchen utensils, dishes and cooking supplies you will need for a home away from home.

The loft is a comforting area to relax and sit by the wood burning stove and read a book or watch a movie on Direct TV or from a selection of DVD’s.

Relax after a long day hiking or skiing in our new Hot Tub! Great for Sunrise, Sunset and enjoying the spectacular stars!

For the fishermen in the group, there are five stocked private fishing ponds located on the Warm Springs Ranch that are available for you to use without a fishing license.

For the hiker, The Good Shepherd’s Lodge backs up to open space and connects to the Pike National Forest for great hiking and exploring.

For the reader, the family room has a large library of over 150 books for your reading pleasure. In fact, it you start one and can't finish it, you can take it home!

Summer/Fall activities:

Warm Spring Ranch
* Fishing in five stocked private ponds on the ranch
* Tennis and basketball court
* Relax on a hammock in the aspens
* Fish the world class trout streams and lakes in the Fairplay area. Fairplay is the official Trout Fishing Capital of Colorado.
* Hiking – Four of Colorado’s “fourteeners” are accessed from Fairplay and Alma, ( In fact they can be all climbed in one day!)and there are 15 peaks above 13,000 feet circling South Park.
* Biking – Bike around the ranch or choose from dozens of trails in the Pike National forest.
* Four-Wheeling – Four-Wheeling is not allowed on the ranch, but there are numerous forest roads and mountain passes to old mining camps and back country area’s around South Park.
* Wildlife Viewing – Because of the high altitude and geology, South Park supports a number of rare plant and animal species. The Bristlecone pines – the oldest living trees in Colorado ( 2,400 years) can be found above Fairplay on Limber Grove Trail. Elk, deer, moose and many other species can also be found in the South Park area.
* Horseback riding – Saddle up on an 8,000 acre ranch of varying terrain with spectacular views.
* Fall - Take a scenic drive or watch the aspens change colors right from the main deck.

Take a short drive to:
* Breckenridge for resort activities and shopping
* Buena Vista – Whitewater rafting
* Mt Princeton – Hot springs
* Fairplay – Activities every weekend in the summer
* Fairplay - Historic South Park City, an 1880’s restored outdoor museum is located on Front Street in downtown Fairplay
* Fairplay recreation center offers a pool and workout area for your enjoyment

Winter Activities
* Cross country skiing right from the lodge
* Snowshoeing
* Hiking
* Ice Fishing
* Take a short drive to Breckenridge for world class downhill snowboarding or skiing.
* You also can ski at Monarch for great skiing and family friendly prices.
* Fairplay recreation center offers a pool and workout area for your winter indoor enjoyment

For winter guests, 4 wheel drive is not required but recommend. Weather can change very quickly and having all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive is always helpful in the Colorado snow.

The Good Shepherd’s Lodge is a great location as well for women’s and men’s retreats, corporate meetings, and family reunions. Ask us for more pictures or more details if interested.

Wonderful Base Camp

This house was in the perfect location to explore so much Colorado has to offer. The town of Fairplay is wonderful with a good grocery store, restaurants, and shops. Plus so much great hiking and fly fishing nearby. Stunning natural beauty to explore everywhere you go. Having the fishing ponds at the ranch was perfect as well! The house has beautiful views of the mountains and sitting out on the decks was so relaxing. Everything was so comfortable and we felt right at home. Mark was very responsive to all of our questions. We had no issues and highly recommend this great house.

Perfect setting for our family Vacation

This property was everything we had hoped for. This was the first vacation we've had with our adult children and grandchildren. It was in a great location to enjoy the peace and quiet and to take day trips such as hiking, rafting and biking. We really liked the secluded area as well as being able to cook and have our meals together in a home. The owners were also easy to communicate with and answered any questions very quickly. They were very welcoming and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed.

Family Ski Trip

This property is true to the description and highly recommended. Our family had a wonderful time staying in this home. The property is clean and well taken care of. We had 9 people and it was very relaxing and comfortable for all. After skiing each day in Breck, coming back to this home was a great way to end the day's activities. The drive to Breck takes 30-45 min and is lovely. There is a gas station and grocery store nearby in Fairplay. Lovely home you will not be disappointed.

The Good Shepard's Lodge is a perfect place to relax and unwind

The photos and property description are spot on and the owners, Mark and Nancy, have thought of every detail to make your stay comfortable. The decor is lovely and inviting and the multiple bedrooms and shared living spaces on each floor make it easy to meet or retreat. We especially enjoyed all the decks and the outdoor hot tub. What a treat! We also had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see (and hear!) two moose stroll through the yard and bed down for the day. Can't promise you'll see moose but you can bet on a delightful stay if you choose the Good Shepard Lodge! Thanks Mark and Nancy!

The perfect getaway for a family celebration

We're from Illinois, and we wanted to celebrate our parents' 50th anniversary. Top of the bucket list was a mountain lodge, all the amenities, privacy, and lots of things to do (if we wanted to). This place was amazing! The interior looks like the showroom for the mountain living catalogs we enjoy looking at. The huge 8 foot wooden bear in the living room was a nice touch, and we made sure to get our pictures by it. One morning, we had a mule deer walk through the side yard. The grill on the 2nd floor deck had a tremendous view and was great place to sit back and read a book, chat with family, and enjoy the view. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Amazing Lodge and Property

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Good Shepard's Lodge. The decor in each of the 4 master suites was excellent. The Lodge was exceptionally clean and we certainly enjoyed our welcome gift - a very nice touch! The communication with the owner was superb. Very prompt responses to our questions prior to and during the trip. The kitchen is very well equipped and we took full use of the gas grill. The views from the Great Room and all bedrooms are stunning. We saw everything from rainbows during the day to a meteor shower one evening. We also enjoyed the fishing in the four ponds a short drive from the Lodge. To summarize - this is a quality property with very responsive owners. We look forward to our next visit!

Wonderful Home for a Refreshing Vacation!

This home is beyond beautiful! From the gorgeous views, to the wonderful accommodations, this lodge is absolutely perfect. The bedrooms were incredibly comfortable and equipped with extra bedding. Our family appreciated all of the bathrooms throughout the home and the decks off each bedroom were amazing! The kitchen provided absolutely everything that we needed. The living room was incredibly spacious with breath taking views. The location was perfect for our family-we were able to visit so many popular destinations close to FairPlay! Mark provided us with clear driving directions and the details about the property were extremely helpful. Our family had such a great trip that we decided we would definitely want to rent this house when we come back the next time! I highly recommend this lodge. It's perfect and exceeded all of our expectations!

A Diamond Nestled in the Mountains

My family, a total of ten individuals split into 3 families, sought to find a home nestled in the mountains that not only provided us with a beautiful view of Colorado, but one rich with experience. How wonderfully we were surprised when we arrived at the Good Shepherd's Lodge. We were greeted by a welcome desk, plenty of maps, books, and an amazing view! Our family had packed some toiletries and food, but were so pleasantly surprised to see all of the condiments shampoos and body wash. It was just like home! As our four and six year old sons put it--our borrowed home. We were able to see wildlife right outside our window every morning and were surrounded by the beauty of the wildflowers around the lodge. I definitely recommend this lodge to anyone who wants a true Colorado experience.

Beautiful Vacation in Spectacular Location

The "cabin" is spacious and well maintained. If you forgot it, it is probably available in the fully stocked kitchen. The owners were very responsive, and every need was addressed promptly. Each room has it's own bathroom and small balcony off the bedroom. All the beds were roomy and comfortable. Cell phone service was pretty bad, and the internet was slow with so many trying to connect devices, but who cares? We didn't miss either. We are three couples who love to head to the mountains each summer to escape the heat of the Oklahoma Panhandle. This is our fourth trip using Home Away, and one of the most spectacular VRBO's we've stayed at so far. Conveniently located to several areas including South Park in Fair Play, Breckenridge, Cripple Creek and many other tourist locations, and we hit most of them during our short stay. Don't miss Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, not far from Cripple Creek. We planned to fish in the ponds available on the property, but didn't get around to it. Instead we traveled around the countryside, sightseeing and enjoying the beautiful weather. The ponds were not far from the house, and we saw some pretty large trout leap for their dinner, but even the site of such large trout were not enough to move us to wet a line - we ran out of time. For those who love wildlife, we saw plenty, including a very large moose, which munched on tree leaves at the bottom of our driveway - yes, we got some great pictures! Also discovered a buck lying in the shade of the trees just beneath the small balcony our first morning there. We are pretty sure he was listening to us get around and make breakfast - and never offered to move, even when we all stood on the balcony to take pictures. Thanks to Mark and Nancy for sharing your beautiful home.

Perfect Mountain Getaway!

A group of us went up to celebrate my 50th birthday. We had such a great stay. First and foremost is the home's setting. It doesn't get anymore beautiful than this! It's very easy to get to and sits on the side of hill which overlooks South Park. WOW....we had a little bit of snow every night so waking up to the snow covered mountains, trees, and valley was truly breathtaking. It was a pleasure to look out on that view all weekend long. Also one of my favorite things to do is jump in the hot tub while it's snowing and we had a great opportunity to do this. I was hoping to get a night of star viewing too, but with the snow...it didn't happen...next time. The 4 master suites are fantastic, it didn't really matter who ended up in what room because they all had bathrooms, plus there are additional bathrooms. The main living area is perfect and we found ourselves floating between the couches and kitchen all weekend. Everything about this home is for comfort and ease. The couches are comfy, the radiant floor heating had us toasty warm, and we found ourselves sitting around the kitchen table for hours at a time. The kitchen is very well stocked not only with items needed for cooking, but with seasonings and 'food' items as well. This home really leaves you wanting nothing except more time there. I usually like to give ideas for the next renters so they know what to bring...but in this case, I can't really think of anything. Mark is very easy to work with and is very communicative regarding all you will need. He kept in touch by email but we had phone numbers if we needed them...but we never did. Nothing is left to question as instructions tell you everything you need to know. They also put in some extra special touches. Thank You Mark and Nancy - you made my 50th a very memorable weekend!!

Colorado getaway for relaxation and outdoor activities

We absolutely enjoyed all aspects of our stay at the Good Shepherd's Lodge at Sheep Ridge. Mark was super responsive to all our questions, and helpful with tips on hiking etc - a very good host. The lodge was just what we were looking for, and it was in such a good setting with wonderful views from every room. We really enjoyed the bench up on the hill behind the lodge and the expansive views from up there. Fairplay is close-by and charming, with a really good grocery store. We definitely look forward to returning.

Relaxing getaway with friends

My friends and I setup a vacation to get away for a nice weekend, relax, play games, and hang out. This place was really nice. Enough bedrooms/beds for 5 guys to have their own room. Multiple places to sit around and hang out. A nice well stocked kitchen that made cooking easy. All in all I really recommend this place if you're looking for a nice place with an amazing view to get away for a bit.

Family Vacation 2022

We had a wonderful time staying at the lodge. We were there a week and enjoyed every minute. The description of the lodge is spot-on. There was enough room for everyone to spread out and relax. The views were amazing and the weather perfect, 40's at nite and low 70's during the day. The boys had fun fishing in the three ponds on the ranch. Mark and Nancy were outstanding as hosts, Mark emailed me several times to make sure we were happy with the lodge and if we needed anything. I would highly recommend staying here.
