A step up from the usual!
Wow!! I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some fabulous rental cottages but this one beats them all, no contest! What a beautiful, unique, well thought out and kitted out rental. Immaculately clean throughout with good quality furnishings and equipment. Location great for walking and relaxing with friendly chickens too. We loved it and I can’t wait to go back.
Just returned from the most wonderful 5 night stay at Magnolia lodge.
The setting of the lodges are beautiful pure peace and tranquillity. Our children loved playing in the grounds and meadow and wondering with the beautiful chicken Figgy, Camila and Hazel each day.
The lodges are kitted out well with everything you could possibly need and are beautifully clean and so well presented. The beds are very comfy and the lodges have such a wonderful feel, lovely views across the meadow so light and airy you almost feel you are staying in a treehouse with all the beautiful woodwork features they are really quirky and unique.
The hosts could not do more to help they were so kind and friendly and provided a high chair and travel cot for our baby son and let our daughter help with looking after the chickens which was the hi-light of her holiday!
We would not hesitate to return to the lodges in the future and would recommend to anyone staying in the area.
The location is fantastic easy reach of so many activities and days out. We managed to do Digger land, Exmouth world of country life park, Sidmouth Donkey sanctuary and a few other trips. The farm shop is literally minutes away and do the most lovey food to take away or eat in.
Many Thanks to Paul Jenny and Lily (not forgetting adorable Dotty) for letting us share your beautiful retreat. We will be back for sure!

Wow. Magnolia Cottage felt like a home from home for our week away. The house is beautifully furnished and fitted, we wanted for nothing. Paul and Anna made us feel very welcome and were on hand if we needed any local advice. Location was perfect, and the chicken, ducks, sheep and wood on site were an added bonus. We did not want to leave.
What a wonderful cottage and excellent base for our week long holiday in east Devon. Paul the owner was very friendly and knowledgeable of the area and places to visit. Everything from the Greendale farm shop, Crealy theme park, the beach and donkey sanctuary within 20 minutes drive or so.
We loved our stay here. Paul was very welcoming and knowledgable about the local area and even very kindly fixed my daughter's bicycle.
The house has lots of thoughtful oak touches which make it feel like a luxury tree house. We cooked a lot during our stay and all the equipment we needed was there (as well as prosecco, milk, tea and coffee).
The kids loved the blocks, tree swing and rope ladder and feeding the chickens and ducks. We really enjoyed exploring the peaceful private wood: we saw a doe, an owl and some gorgeous butterflies and minibeasts. We enjoyed day trips to the Eden project, Sidmouth beach, and Diggerland. Thank you very much for having us!
A very comfortable and relaxing place to stay with hens, ducks and sheep to keep you company! A good location for this lovely part of Devon. We’ll definitely be back
We had a great time here. Perfect location and the kids were constantly busy enjoying themselves around the grounds. Paul is an excellent host and I would definitely stay again.

Fantastic rental
Wonderful place to stay- fantastic property with all the amenities you need. Decorated to a very high standard and very clean and organised, it manages to feel really cosy and has lots of beautiful decor, but we didn’t ever feel on edge with two small children running around, as can often be the case! Paul is a fabulous host and we felt very well looked after while still having all the peace and privacy we enjoy. Incredibly beautiful site which has been cleverly laid out to feel very secluded. We loved the free ranging ducks and chickens who visited us every morning. I can’t recommend a stay here highly enough, and we would certainly return next time we visit the area.

You won’t be disappointed!
Apart from an environmentally sensitive and beautifully designed house in a stunning setting, you will find that owner Paul is a mine of information about the area and the countryside in this AONB.
Very convenient for Exeter, Budleigh, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Beer and many other destinations. Easy to find and a ready welcome from the hosts. You won’t be disappointed!

A beautifully appointed and characterful home in a tranquil, yet convenient location.
We felt at home immediately, greeted by fresh bread, strawberries and cream, prosecco and beautiful flowers, left thoughtfully by the owner, Paul. Magnolia lodge is beautifully appointed and comfortably furnished with some amazing oak furniture, totally inkeeping with the house. The location is quiet and peaceful, with views over the garden onto a field of sheep and friendly chickens and a pair of ducks wandering around. There are so many beautiful places close at hand - Sidmouth, Beer, a quirky National Trust property A La Ronde, Lyme Regis and the Jurassic coast a little further, to name but a few. The (very) local Halfway Inn, is good for food and there is an excellent Waitrose store on the edge of Sidmouth as well as other supermarkets. We’ve had a wonderful stay here and would find it difficult to fault.

Beautiful house, lovely location.
A stunning house full of individual character. Lots of little touches which were very much appreciated, bottle of prosecco on arrival and a large punnet of cherries. Paul is the perfect host and very welcoming on arrival. Wholeheartedly recommended for a luxury holiday property in a great location. Local pub, Halfway Inn is great for a meal and there is a regular bus service straight into Exeter or Sidmouth. We’ll be back, I’m sure!

About the host
Hosted by Paul and Anna Slade
Hello, my name is Paul. My wife Anna and I have lived in the area for 25 years and have 3 teenage children. Having both been born in Devon, we have enjoyed the wonderful countryside the area has to offer, which inspired us to keep sheep, chickens and ducks. Both Anna and I have horticultural backgrounds, being a landscape gardener and florist by trade. We have designed and built a number of properties including cider barn, coach house, school and more recently an oak framed log cabin which we now live in. This then inspired us to build a south facing, cedar clad, glass fronted lodge which has spectacular views, making full use of the sun. So come and join us for a wonderful holiday in this unique location – you will never want to leave!
Why they chose this property
The property is surrounded by mature trees and is adjoining Woodbury Commons. This allows us to take lovely long walks over the heathland where nightingales and the Dartford worblers can be seen.
We are centrally located which makes it easy to reach the sea at Budliegh Salterton and Exmouth as well as Sidmouth, and only 10 minutes to Exeter.
There are wonderful views of Dartmoor and Exeter which can be seen from the lodge. The site enjoys sunshine all day long as it is south facing and very sheltered. The site is quiet and removed from the
What makes this property unique
The property is quiet, private and secure. We have 7 acres of land and keep sheep, ducks and chickens. We can sit peacefully beside our wildlife pond which is home to ducks, coots, dragonflies and danselflies, as well as carp and tench.
With so much available locally such as pubs, farm shops, the beach and other tourist attractions, we can offer a place to escape either after a busy day or just relaxing in the front garden soaking up the sun.
