About this property
Adorable Oceanfront Cottage. Plan your trip to Paradise Island today!
When I walked through the doors of this home for the first time I was taken aback by all the old style charm this home has. You will find knotty pine in the living area. An open space for you and your family to enjoy time around the house or you can escape to rest and relax in one of the four bedrooms. The house comes with two full baths (one has a standup shower you can dance in the other has a tub/shower combo!). The porches are great too. Sit on the ocean side and go back in time to when the hustle and bustle of life was not the extent it is today. You will hear the waves rolling in and just in time you can take a walk on your private deck to the sand. If you fancy lying in the sun, there is plenty of deck and chairs for you to do this too. And like my sister always says..."we never eat inside" so I've put a full dining set on the front porch for you to enjoy. The back porch facing the road is where you will get your sunsets and be ready for them. They are amazing. You will enjoy an old time boardwalk, great sand, huge beach and within walking distance to nightlife, games, and everything that there is to enjoy about CB. Especially Britt's Doughnuts! Wow..
The bedrooms consist of: #1. King Size Bed #2. Two Full Size Bunk Beds #3. Two Queen Size Beds #4. Twin Bed

Our family had a great time at the cottage. We have small children and they had a blast. The adults are enjoying the ability to walk the boardwalk to the beach from the cottage.
The balcony is great watching the sunset and sunrise.
Would love to come back again!
Perfect beach house. Cozy with plenty of room for the family. Great location. Easy walk to the boardwalk and good food. My family enjoyed the local attractions, Shopping and Britt’s Donuts, of course! We are already planning our trip for next summer!
The house was nice and great location to the boardwalk. We had easy access to the beach and plenty of room to park 3 cars. Would recommend to friends and family, already talking about next year.
We spent a week here and besides a few minor things everything was great.. I contacted them with the few minor things and they are going to be addressed.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect for our needs. I grew up going to Carolina Beach and I relived a lot of memories!
Rebecca was fantastic to deal with and we are very appreciative for that.
What a way to spend Easter weekend!
We had an absolute blessing of a time. Location was phenomenal. We were able to walk right on to the beach and several restaurants and bars were also within walking distance as well as a convenient store. Overall, the property description was accurate, however, I will say if you drive a tall truck (as a couple of us did) it will not fit in the parking garage. Plenty of porch and deck room for the pups to have range which also included dog gates/doors that were extremely helpful. The outdoor rinse and shower areas came in handy. This property accommodated all that we needed and made this vacation extra special for my family!
We loved this beach house, especially the porches. The back porch (ocean side) was our gathering place every day. We would move to the front porch to watch the sun set just about every day. It was a great vacation!
The house was fully stocked and close to beach. The only two negatives were Deck was quite old and we were careful to wear shoes so not to get splinters. The last thing was that the motel visitors next door were up and yelling and playing load music until 1-2am many nights.
This listing is 100% accurate. Everything mentioned is exactly how it is. This is a classic beach house. Hardwood floors and knotty pine in the living area. It could comfortably sleep 16. Everything is on one level which is beach level. The boardwalk to and from the beach enters the living space with no steps to climb. There are steps from street level. The house sits on two very large garage spaces with closing doors. There is an additional parking pad that could probably fit two cars parked end to end. We only had one vehicle that was short enough to pass under the garage doors. Our pickups had to be parked on the sidewalk out front. parking pad.the garage. The wa
The cottage was adorable! Our family loved waking up each morning being able to go right on the beach. It was nice to come and go through out the day and not have to completely pack up. The house had everything we needed. The only disappointment I have is, a grill is listed for use and it was available, but it didn’t work. The burners were old and fell apart when lit, which caused the grill to catch fire when attempting to cook on it. Also, the grease trap was left full and fell from the grill creating a huge mess. We had planned several meals around the use of a grill so that had to be improvised. But other than those few minor mishaps, our stay was wonderful.
This cottage is just lovely. The house has tons of space and beds, the location is close enough to the boardwalk to just walk to it, and the private beach access really made it phenomenally easy to get to and from the beach. There's also plenty of restaurants around, and plenty of kitchen utensils in the house for when you might want to cook a meal and save some money, and the living room has plenty of space for a night in. Our group was all young adults, but the house also had plenty of things for families and children, lots of games and fun decor.
Rebecca was so helpful and responsive, and checking in and out was easy. Having space to park multiple cars meant there were no difficulties with my geographically separated group traveling, and also meant we didn't have to pay for parking the entire week we were there! I would recommend stopping at the Publix on the way in for paper products and other toiletries, because they were not stocked when we arrived. But otherwise, the house had everything we needed, up to and including beach towels, shovels, frisbees, and even a beach cart.
Really just a wonderful accommodation and trip. We were so sad to leave, and it's definitely on our radar for next year!
Great location and Simplified necessity amenities and private walk to beach.
In summary: A great little simple spot in a fantastic location. While a bit dated with a few lacking amenities, a workable space with excellent management and ideally located to walk to beach and downtown.
Pros: Location - super easy to downtown to walk and of course on the beach. No crossing streets, lugging gear, etc. Super Clean. Many kitchen amenities (blender, washer, pitchers, coffee filters/makers, etc). Great open main room and kitchen for family time and gatherings. Movies, board games on premise. Great communication with owner/management company. Parking for 3 cars (1 bigger SUV and 2 smaller cars).
Cons: No gas grill, only a charcoal grill We had to bring our own as we preferred to cook on gas. The A/C did work but had to be diligent to keep all doors closed immediately and even the blinds too. Would have liked to have a more up to date system to handle our family in and out. Temps hovered around the 76-78 mark during the day but did get down to 72 at night. No big deal for us, but for others that plan to spend time on porch should note that there is no view of ocean from porch. Worth noting is that no linens are provided, you must bring all bedding. Though they did provide some towels (and linens for a $150 charge- not worth it). Despite what the listing and pre-trip docs say, there is NO hot tub on site! (perhaps there used to be).
Roomy home, peaceful back deck with view of dunes and sea oats, private walkway to a wide beach, knotty pine paneling in the family area like I remember beach cottages having when I was young, nice appliances, everything we needed to have a great week at the beach. A 10 minute walk to Britts donuts for breakfast and live music and fireworks on Thursday nights. Nice neighbors who own the house their grandfather built in 1930's.
Wonderful time staying at Pirate's Chest! The house was very clean, kitchen is well stocked- couldn't have asked for anything! Definitely will be back!
We had a wonderful time, cozy & comfy house close to all the action & the beach.

Owners trying to rent out on the cheap - Beware pet friendly concept due to open slats on decking
The rental we had originally reserved was damaged by hurricane Isaias so we had to find a pet friendly beachfront house last minute. The listing 'marketing' language for this house does not match with reality.
Here's a few items to consider -
- This house is set back between a motel and another bigger house and the back deck has NO view of the beach. It also gets NO breeze as a result of being boxed in. This alone was the single biggest detractor from this property.
- The motel pool next door is literally no more than 5 feet from the back deck (people tried to reach out and pet our dogs and came within a few feet).
- As noted by another renter, there are 'roachlike' bugs here - we saw them every day in the kitchen and family area.
- The back porch and decking is missing several wood slats which make it necessary to jury-rig a barricade if you have inquisitve pets.
- Neither garage door closes - they are both out of the runners. This is clearly a known issue and neglected by the owners because the checkin email makes note of it - and still mentions instructions for a hottub which was removed at least a year ago.
- The cable / internet bill was left unpaid and was cut off on September 1st -- I had to alert the owner to the unpaid status to have it turned back on.
- 2 of the bedrooms have no closets - clearly the 2nd bathroom was created out of the closet space. Our older family had significant trouble maneuvering in the 16" access space to get in and out of the bathtub.
- Essentially none of the doors work properly - the front door to the deck has a 3" gap at the bottom, the back door doesn't seal.
- The A/C will not keep up. When we arrived at 4pm checkin the house was 74 degrees even though the thermostat was set to 72. We lowered it to 70 but the house is so thermally inefficient it never got down to 72 even. The owners clearly know about this issue and have chosen not to fix this -- likely a simple attic insulation issue.
- If you have SUV's or Pickups you'll need to keep the garage doors open overnight - the vehicles won't fit otherwise. They don't close anyway.
The reality of this house is significantly and materially different than the expectation we had reading the 'recently renovated' verbiage of the listing. Property managers are representing this - and pricing it - as a much better property than it is. Should be more like half the price.

Vacation 2020
We enjoyed the beach access and the deck to the beach. The interior and exterior are older and could be improved. The furniture is old and needs replaced. The garage where the washer and dryer is gross. The refrigerator is sitting in level causing all of our food to freeze. There were several large roach like bugs that scurried across the floor. The location from the beach is excellent, but the property needs improvement. We did really enjoy Carolina Beach though.

I am so excited to share with you my experience of buying a home away from home. As a high end apartment manager located in Raleigh, NC, I've always had the pleasure of living on-site. With that thought process in mind, I turned my home purchase towards the beach so that my friends and I could have a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Here you'll find our adventures and we hope that you will add your own!
Why they chose this property
A few summers ago, my college roommate got married to his sweetheart. While I was here, the memories of my childhood visits to Carolina Beach started to flow. I had some money saved up and decided that I should look at some real estate. It took me over a year to find the perfect place and I bought my first oceanfront condo in 2010. I made it into exactly what I wanted, a different place: full of pirate stuff as I graduated from East Carolina University. It was so popular, I had to buy something else so I could enjoy the beach too. Growing up vacationing at Carolina Beach every year was always so much fun. I remember looking back we got to go for an ENTIRE week to Carolina Beach. We always stayed at The Parker motel on the North End, but had to stay on the second row without a pool so we could afford the entire week. Every summer we packed up my fathers full size 1970's chevy truck, put the camper on top and headed to Carolina Beach. My dad had affixed a bed on the back and with the small shell camper, my sister and I were in for a ride of a lifetime. We always made signs to put int he back window to tell people where we were going. My favorite was always drawing a clown and making it colorful - oh how our childhood makes us. Never in a million years would I have thought I could afford something at the beach and especially not oceanfront. I'm humbled that I get to dream big and enjoy the memories from days gone by. I hope you and your family will enjoy the memories you make - they truly last a lifetime!
What makes this property unique
I personally love being able to wake up, open the master bedroom door and see the ocean. There is nothing better than looking into eternity! No matter whether it's cold or hot, I love it here. There is a reason it's call Paradise Island and I fully understand it! I also enjoy the local flare. From the great restaurants like Seawitch Cafe & Tiki Bar and Stoked Restaurant where you can eat over the Canal you just can't beat this laid back island. In the winter, you should check out the Island of Lights. The locals really get into this and it's amazing to see the ocean in the winter with all the lights and Christmas Flare at the Boardwalk!
