About this property

Large private house near Yosemite. In-ground heated Pool, Spa and nice views

Canyon View Retreat is quiet and relaxing. The house is at the end of the road and over 2 miles off of highway 140 so you won’t hear any highway noise. Let the stress melt away while sitting on the deck enjoying the wonderful views of the Merced River Valley, the amazing sunsets, or even sit in the spa and look at all of the stars you don’t see in the city. This completely remodeled house sits on 20 acres and features 3 bedrooms that are separated from one another, 4 full high end bathrooms, and a bonus area. The house sleeps 14 comfortably. The master bath is 8’ x 12’ and features a large walk-in shower. The master bedroom has a cal-king Sealy mattress and all the other bedrooms have queen Sealy mattresses. The bonus area has 2 queen beds, both with queen Sealy mattresses. There is a pull out sofa bed in the kids area downstairs along with a roll out twin bed. The sleeping areas have blinds to keep the morning sun out. The large kitchen is fully stocked for cooking you’d do at the house. Also included is a 12 bottle wine fridge with dual temperature zones and an espresso machine. The kitchen table seats 12 comfortably and there is room for 3 more at the bar area. Outside the kitchen area is a 1500 sf patio with a bbq and access to the pool and spa. There is no lifeguard on duty and it is use at your own risk. The pool is open in mid May to the end of September. There is a dining table for six and a few lounge chairs out there. The upstairs living area features a 15’ sectional couch with a 65” tv with YouTube TV and a blueray/dvd player. Right off the living room and master bedroom is the 1200 sf deck. There is a dining table for 14. Downstairs are two of the bedrooms along with a sitting area with a wood stove for those cold winter nights, and a kids area. The kids area includes an arcade size air hockey table, a large sectional couch with a playstation, Xbox Series X, and board games, puzzles, table for puzzles and games, and kids toys. There is also a basketball hoop on the back patio. Outside the lower level is a 1000 sf patio with a porch swing and nice views. There is plenty of areas to go hike to on the property. You can walk up to the trails to the top of the hill and back along the property. You will be in areas where you don’t see any house and don’t hear any highway noise. While you are out in the country, you are about 15 minutes away from the town of Mariposa. The Merced River Valley is about a 10 minute drive from the house where you can play in the river and go white water rafting.

On the property you can see wild animals including turkey, deer, rabbits, and birds.

In the winter we can get snow. Typically it will snow 2"-6" during a storm and melt off within a few days. Snow chains are recommended during winter months in case of a snow storm.

** 11 miles to Butterfly Creek Winery
** 11 miles to town of Mariposa
** 30 miles to River Creek Golf Course in Ahwahnee
** 40 miles to Bass Lake
** 45 miles to Chukchansi Casino in Coursegold
** 35 miles to Yosemite Valley (about 30 minutes to the gate)

The drive to Canyon view Retreat is about 2.5 to 3 hours in the Bay Area. If you are flying into the bay area, try to land before 1 pm and fly into Oakland or San Jose to avoid traffic as the traffic from SFO can be bad. The Fresno airport is probably your best option.

A contract is required to be signed plus providing a copy of your government identification.

The pool can be used Mid May to the end of September. Weather conditions may change the availability of the pool. The hot tub is available year round.

Family gathering
Lovely location with amazing sunsets and peaceful setting. Ed was great with communication about a road closure going into Yosemite NP. The hot tub was a welcome amenity at the end of a day hiking. Such a great place for family to gather, so much room for everyone and so comfortable! Awesome stay and would definitely book again.

Wonderful adventure
This home was wonderful. We were staying there to visit Yosemite. The drive to the park was very doable and gorgeous and when we got back after a long day of hiking, the home was so relaxing and beautiful. The view is stunning. Highly recommend!

Lovely, peaceful retreat about an hour from Yosemite NP
This house was a perfect base for exploring Yosemite NP! Just over an hour drive from the park, this comfortable home offers an incredible deck, pool, and hot tub with gorgeous views of mountains and wildlife. We enjoyed our afternoons in the pool and grilling our dinner after mornings spent hiking in beautiful Yosemite. Our host was friendly, helpful, and communicative. We had a wonderful stay!

Fantastic Stay in Midpines
Ed's property is beautiful! The pictures don't do it justice. It is a large property with a great view of the valley. Hot tub was relaxing after hiking, and deer can be found daily on the property. The air hockey table and game room were a big hit for the kids. We would love to come back on our next trip to Yosemite!

Great home
We had a very nice stay for my birthday weekend. A small group of us were looking for a nice place to stay for a getaway. We checked out downtown Mariposa and enjoyed evening hot tub. The pool was still out of season when we stayed but we discussed coming back in the summer for another weekend and to use the pool. Recommend!

Excellent Place To Stay
My family and I had a wonderful time here! The place is very large and clean. It is located between Mariposa and Yosemite Arch Rock Entrance. We were there in the beginning of October and it would take us about 40 mins to get to the park. The house sits up on a hill and has amazing views. You are not close to neighbors so it is very quiet and the Hot Tub was a lifesaver after a day of hiking. Check in and Check out were very easy and the owner was easy to contact and very helpful. We had a wonderful time on our trip and having a great place to stay really helped. I can't say enough nice stuff about this place.

Amazing!!
From the time I booked the trip months ago to the day we arrived the communication was excellent! Ed is a wonderful host and very responsive. The property is great for a large group with lots of space. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything you need. It was really hot when we were there so sometimes the ac could not keep up. We used the pool a lot! We had to leave early due to a wildfire and Ed was thoughtful and caring about our safety!! Make sure you make time to look at the stars every night. They are incredible and you can see them from multiple places around the property. We can’t wait to come back!!

Top of the hill amazing view. Big open spaces to gather, upstairs ,downstairs, inside and out. Enjoyed cool air evenings in the hot tub. As advertised, all 5s except a 4 for location and neighborhood. Cute rustic neighborhood, just need to be aware in the snow it’s a 2 mile windy uphill drive to the house. Park right in front of door so easy to bring stuff in, Owner called me 2 days ahead with a weather report so I could prepare. Thank You Ed! Also quick responses on my questions. We hope to come back with a bigger group next time.

Property is exactly as the pictures, and the view great. Enough space for everyone.
This house is exactly as pictured and even better when you see the views, about 45 min drive to Yosemite park, beautiful in the winter- snow on the ground only issue was half our group was stuck one night after a landslide blocked the main road. Thankfully everyone was fine and made it back to the house in the morning. House was on a private road- drive slow, but given the size and amenities would enjoy going again when we can swim in the pool. Hot tub a little to cold to use- 99 Fahrenheit is not warm enough to use when it’s below 40. This is a great place for a large group/family and we look forward to visiting again.

Great Property; Responsive Owners
Canyon View Retreat was a nice property to stay at. The property was a good compromise for our group of 13, half of whom did not want to go camping, because it was located within a 1 hour drive to Yosemite. The best part was enjoying the sunsets and stargazing off the back deck. Towels (including pool towels), a couple pool toys, board games, and all the kitchen necessities were provided. Although the property is listed as sleeping up to 13, note that this is based on 3 people sharing the king bed in the master bedroom. Also, the 2 queen beds in one bedroom were arranged "feet to feet" as opposed to side-by-side as you would find in a typical hotel room. Unfortunately we were down one shower (3 instead of 4) because the previous guests broke one of the shower doors; but, we made due and don't fault the owners for that. Erin and Ed Cripp were very responsive to any questions or requests we had.

Great place to stay.
Our family had a gre as time at the home. It was spacious enough that from old to young had their own places to spread out. The air hockey table was a hit while the outdoor decks were peaceful even in mid day sun (although during summer months maybe not so--our temps were in the 70s). Excellent choice for a couple trips into the Valley and Mariposa and Oakhurst. Thank you to those who help keep this place in its existing shape for the rest of us to enjoy. We always bring with us some necessities but really needed none on this trip bc the house is very well equipped.

Big house, great view, convenient location
Rented this house because of the proximity to Yosemite, and it was worth it. 30 minutes to the Western gate, and 30 more to the far end of the valley. The house is up a dirt road with a wonderful deck and views of the area, but easy to get to. Also close by is the June Bug Cafe, at Yosemite Bug. The food there was incredible. We ate there several times and were shocked at how good the food is. There was a wildfire in the area a week before we arrived, but it was out in time for our trip and caused no problems. Homeowners answered most of our questions promptly, and kept us up to date thereafter. The house had every utensil and appliance we needed, and the kids loved the hot tub and air hockey table and basketball net. I considered taking off a star on accuracy of listing because the pool was not open for the season, and I don't remember seeing that on the listing, but that was a pretty small thing for us. If we're ever going to Yosemite again, we'd definitely consider stay here again.

great property for 2 families
We enjoyed this property very much. Large and spacious. Plenty of space for 2 families to spread out. Kitchen was well stocked. Beds comfortable. Great outdoor space for relaxing - the pool and hot tub were just what we needed after a long day at the park. Yosemite about 45 minute drive. Nearby town of Mariposa had grocery, restaurants, and drug store. Only negative is that you can only leave 2 loads of laundry which includes towels and sheets. Been to many VRBOs and this is the first time I had to worry about doing the laundry. The dryer took awhile so need to plan accordingly. Overall - good location, comfortable stay, loved the hot tub - would highly recommend!

The pictures don't even do it justice!!!
This property is magical. The view is overwhelming beautiful and the pictures are good, but really don't do it justice. The house floorplan is set up great for big groups and has two very large living areas, one on each floor. Yosemite Valley, the Giant Sequoias at Mariposa Grove, and tons of hiking/ATV trails are all less than an hour drive. There's deer in the pictures, and our first day there we saw four of them walking down the hill behind the house, maybe 15 yards from where we were having breakfast on the deck! I highly recommend this property - you won't be disappointed.

Gorgeous and private!
My husband and I were here for the Labor Day long weekend with my cousins and we absolutely enjoyed every bit of our stay here! The house, bathrooms, pool and spa were all very clean and the kitchen was fully equipped. Good parking area. We only needed it for 1 big SUV but otherwise it might fit up to 4 cars. Abundance of towels and swim towels, so loved that. We just had to put the used towels aside in laundry area before we left. We even enjoyed the bbq grill one evening. About an hour drive to Yosemite national Park. Overall LOVED our stay and we can’t wait to go back with another set of friends/family. :) Only issue was that Midpines is a small town with not even a grocery store after 5-6pm so go well prepared with any groceries / body wash / shampoo you’d need. We had to drive to Mariposa (the neighboring town) to find a grocery store.

Wonderful property and owners
Our 2 families enjoyed your property immensely. It was just as described on the website, impeccably clean, well stocked kitchen, and had very comfortable beds and linens. The pool and spa were definitely the highlight and worth the extra distance from Yosemite. Location was perfect - almost midway between the park's north and south entrances. The town of Mariposa is perfect for a nearby evening and dinner out. We highly recommend your property!

About the host

Host profile image
I'm a single dad with two awesome kids, ages 15 and 10. I grew up in the Bay Area and left at the start of Covid to move to Midpines. I spend most of my free time traveling up and down the west coast.

Why they chose this property

Several years before buying this house, I stayed at several rentals in the area with my ex. We fell in love with the area and started looking for property. While looking, we never found a house we liked on a property we liked. So we found a property we liked and did a complete remodel/addition on the house to make it our dream house. The biggest draw of this property is how quiet it is. You aren't near the highway and you are at the end of the road. We have stayed at other places where you hear the busses and trucks. We are also less than 3 hours from the bay area.

What makes this property unique

What sold me on this property was the view. Everyone that comes up mentions the view. We are on 20 acres so you have plenty of room to move around. You can hike up to the top of the hill and find some nice areas to sit and relax.
