About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Pleasantly surprised

I was a bit concerned when renting this property due to the mixed results, but wow was I pleasantly surprised. The kitchen was fully stocked and I mean FULLY stocked with every cooking tool you need. The bedrooms were a bit small but had enough beds to sleep 3 couples comfortably. Unfortunately, we had 4 couples. The patio area is gorgeous. Lying on the hammock with the string lights or under the moonlight was peaceful and centering. The living room is a bit small but enough to relax while you wait for your group to explore Yosemite. It is just inside the south park entrance so the drive to Glacier point and the Valley are about 45 mins away. I would 10/10 recommend this place to friends and family and I would stay in this location again.

The perfect rustic cabin!

The Chattertons’ cabin is utterly delightful! The decor isn’t modern, which suits us just fine. Kitchen is very well-equipped, beds are AOK, and the plumbing works. The Redwoods area is quiet and beautiful. We look forward to returning!

2/10 Terrible

Mark and Daria

We were delayed two hours after the 4pm arrival time and the cabin wasn't available until 6. Our groceries survived, but were not as cold as we would have liked. The cabin had one window air conditioner in the dining room, so the rooms were pretty hot. The window that I had had very old windows that were very tough to open. I was only able to open two out of about 10. The toilet and sink in one bathroom were stained, and really needed to be replaced and upgraded. We were disappointed with the cabin and would suggest to the owners to put some money into it to make it nicer. Outside the cabin and deck was just loose dirt that was hard not to track in and became dust when arriving in a car.

2/10 Terrible

Yosemite lover

We were really disappointed as soon as we pulled over, really tiny and dirty cabin. We wanted to enjoy the deck and we couldn't, it was all dusty and trashy, We expected a nice set up, chair cushions covered in dog's hair. We've been staying at The Redwoods before and they were pleasant stays. We love to stay with you guys, but this cabin really needs an upgrade. And the cleaning crew must do their work. Thank you
