About this property

1 Honeymoon Row, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk

No.1 Honeymoon Row is a charming and characterful 300-year-old end of terrace cottage in a super, secluded location, just a few minutes' walk from the quay and harbour and a 20 minute walk to the beach in Wells-next-the-Sea.

With its pretty, sunny, fully-enclosed garden with private access and and just a two minute stroll from the picturesque Buttlands in the heart of Wells, this cottage was formerly a warehouse and temporary home to the Fisher Theatre Company at the turn of the 18/19th century. The gentle incline suggests that No.1 Honeymoon Row was used as the stage area. By 1816 the building had been converted into a row of terraced cottages and that is how it remains today. This delightful cottage has been extended to include a modern kitchen/diner with doors opening into the garden, perfect for letting sunshine in. The sitting room, which forms part of the original building, is comfortable and cosy and has a large gas 'stove' to warm your toes during winter evenings. A steep traditional Norfolk winder staircase, with a twisted grab rail, leads you up to the first floor which has two double bedrooms, both with comfy beds and a family bathroom. The cottage is good for a family of four and big enough for two couples, but also ideal for someone staying on their own who wants to retreat to a quiet, private space while having all the local amenities only a short walk away.

Even though the cottage is in a quiet and secluded location, you are right in the heart of Wells, meaning that you can explore all the pubs/restaurants/shops and local tourist attractions on foot or bicycle. And with the Coasthopper bus route close by, you can literally park up for the week and hop on the bus to take you up and down the coast.

Great little cottage
Overall the property suited our needs. It was central form shops, pubs and restaurants and also for places to visit. Stairs were just about OK for us as Septuagenarians, but for those less fit, may be a struggle.

Good situation
Comfortable and clean cottage in good position in Wells. Would have been very quiet but building works 4 cottages down made it noisy during the day. Not sure what can be done about that but warning would be useful. Some small maintenance jobs required but no doubt the owners will deal with them now they are aware. A good place to stay.

quaint and comfortable
The cottage was delightful. It contained everything needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The kitchen is well-equipped and the dining table nicely positioned to enjoy the garden view. The cottage is warm and roomy. The staircase could be a little tricky for small children and very elderly guests. The cottage is a pleasant walk to the shops in Staithe Street and to the quay. Thre are bus stops nearby for the coast hopper bus. The Crown and several other very nice pubs and cafes are convenient. There is an excellent Coop nearby as well as the Howells Decli, butchers and fishmongers to purchase food to cook and enjoy at the cottage. It was just about warm enough for a glass of wine in the garden before dinner in the cottage most evenings, one of which was a delicious takeaaway crab salad from No 1 in Cromer. I visit Wells three or four times a year and this cottage is most definitely my first choice next visit.

Highly recommended!
We spent a lovely week in this cottage which had everything we needed. It's tucked away in a quiet position and is warm and cosy and just right for coming back to after a day's walking on the chilly north Norfolk coast! We will definitely be returning!

Everything was perfect for us but it worth be mentioning that the stairs are very steep which could be an issue for elderly people or for very young children

Family holiday
Our second visit to Wells and first stay on Honeymoon Row. The cottage was cute and we had a lovely stay. Bedrooms comfy and enough space for our family of 4. Beautiful garden with plenty of edible herbs available. Staircase tricky-ish to get down as narrow and steep, but that’s not a criticism - just part of the cottage charm. Would recommend and hope to visit again.

Great property & great owners
Great property. Really nicely decorated and kept in great condition. Do be aware that the staircase is very steep. Excellent location, really convenient for The Buttlands etc. The owners were outstanding, sadly we have been rather less impressed by the agents.
