Great location but home needs some maintenance

Wonderful views but there is a musty smell downstairs that did not clear even with the dehumidifier on. Furniture and walls need cleaning, water access not really available according to yard signage. Beds are in good shape. Maine is wonderful, but if we return we will select another property.

Nice home base for visiting Acadia

Beautiful sunrise views. Worked great for 2-3 couples. Basement stairs were steep, upstairs bathroom small, but none of those things were an issue for us. Missing screens on the screen porch, but we had no trouble with bugs. Still a nice spot to chill at night. I would stay here again.

Poor maintenance and not clean

Unfortunately the waterfront location does not make up for the poorly maintained condition of the house, the inaccurate listing descriptions, and the expensive rental rate. They advertise a screened in dining porch, but it is NOT screened in, they advertise a separate deck, but it is only a narrow walkway to the entry door. Window and slider screens are in poor condition with a few holes and splining is coming apart. The slider screen door to dining porch falls off the track constantly, the main entry doesn't have a screen door on it so you can't leave it open for airflow without letting yet more bugs in. We found the kitchen smoke alarm on the counter with a dead battery, a few lightbulbs didn't work, corners had cobwebs that had been there a while, several bath towels had large brown stains, the bathroom tissue box was empty, and the fans had a lot of built up dirt on the front fan cage that could be easily wiped off. Yet we received a text from Vacasa telling us the cleaning crew finished early and we could check in an hour early. Only one living room window opens, and neither have interior window shades or exterior awnings, so the house just bakes even when the temp outside is in the 70s. We found a few dry towels folded on top of dryer, but all other towels were in cupboards, really damp to the touch as though they had been pulled out of dryer only half way through cycle. Despite the large bathroom space downstairs, they haven't provided enough hooks or towel rails to hang 6 bath towels (one per guest) to dry. The basement smells of mildew, and the bucket of DampRid in the utility room was black with mold. This is the second Vacasa managed property I've rented, and both were an experience in good eye candy for VRBO listing pictures, but poor cleaning, maintenance, and overall comfort.

Nice, but Do Take Note

This home has amazing views, and overall, we had a great time in and around Bar Harbor as this home offers a "forty minute" drive to just about anywhere we wanted to go. Yet, I think a little 'heads up' on a couple items are important here. The home has a thermostat, but it doesn't seems to be working, and the place is hot. The lower level is cooler, but quite musty (in feeling and smell) with no where really to 'hang out.' A larger bathroom is on that lower level with a nicer shower, but it is odd using it as the primary bathroom since you are going through a bedroom to get there (and then using that bathroom through a paper thin door that sticks and barely shuts . . . and if a person is in bed, that person would be staring right into that door). The alternative upstairs bathroom then offers its own challenges. The toilet is circular and tiny (with a padded seat making it smaller) and leaves you facing up against (if not hanging over) the sink. Grown men can't use this bathroom without cussing. The shower here is then half into a wall . . . with a dresser at the other end . . . also with a window looking out to the street you access the home from. Granted, not a crowed street, but worth noting. The contents of the kitchen, then, really need to be updated. The pots and pans each have something about them that makes them not quite what you need/what and/or impossible to use with loose/missing handles, etc. Then, BYOTW (tupperware). If you plan on using the kitchen to make meals and save some money, know that the home offers no temporary storage. Plan on storing all food in Ziploc baggies of various sizes and hoping for the best and/or for when you need a baggie of Mac n Cheese to go. In light of all that, I think it is priced a little high for the complete experience. I did enjoy the views, but for a vacation, I could have been more 'comfortable' than I was at that price range. Yet, if none of those details matter to you, the views were great, the drive was reasonable, and the area was peaceful.

Could be cute, but needs work

We stayed 3 nights at Lorimer Shores, a 1961 home situated on the water with great views. We enjoyed the letter from Brian about growing up in the home; it's clear he dearly loves the place. We enjoyed the living and breakfast areas and the quiet neighborhood. However, we did find the listing to be misleading in several points, and the homes "quirks" made it a rather challenging, and even somewhat dangerous stay. Least concerning, the "screened porch" is not screened. This didn't bother us as we were not there during buggy weather, but it would probably be a major issue in summer or spring months. More concerning, the stairs to the basement bedroom (which isn't the least bit tranquil, but could qualify as creepy) are super-steep, so narrow my mom's size 6.5 feet would not even fit on them, and the carpet tacks are poking through in several places. I found navigating these to be difficult and dangerous and would definitely not recommend it for older guests or children. The outdoor stairs are also broken and in need of repair. They do pose a tripping hazard if you are not aware of the damage and careful to avoid the areas that are unstable, especially descending. Additionally, the bathrooms are awful. Just awful! The upstairs bathroom, though well-cleaned, we found to be practically unusable. It had a strong cat-pee smell that we suspect is being caused by mold. The pictures and virtual tour are very deceiving as to the space in the bathroom and the setup of the shower. My mom, a very petite person, attempted to shower in this bathroom on our first morning and basically gave up as she did not have any space to move. She also said the tub was very slippery and had no grips of any kind to assist. The toilet and sink are positioned so close you could brush your teeth while seated. After the first morning, we gave up using the shower altogether and relocated to the downstairs bathroom... which is much bigger but also provides an RV-like experience shower-wise. The water pressure was excellent and the supply of hot water was more than sufficient for 2 people, but we were very happy to say goodbye to both bathrooms on check out. We also found that the A/C did not seem to work. Heating appears to work, but the home is cooled by oscillating fans and open windows (hence the fly paper in the kitchen). The door that leads from the downstairs bathroom outside to the beach does not completely close or lock. Overall, could be cute, but needs lots of work.

Beautiful location, "quirky" place, cleanliness issues

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION/gorgeous view! Per owners comment, the place is "quirky"/eclectic furnishings. 3 bedrooms/roomy enough. Upstairs bath/shower small/cramped. VERY narrow stairway to lower level. Large bathroom, but carpeted, and shower damp on floor outside. Dark stains near toilet. Not owners fault, but biggest issue was cleanliness: Kitchen/dining floors were sticky, handprints on outside glass doors, dirty "wipe" smears on refrigerator, dead bug smashed on door moulding. We called to have cleaning come back out, they never showed.

Wonderful Stay!

Our stay at this cottage was wonderful! extremely clean and comfortable. Definitely felt like home away from home. incredible views! right on the water with shared access point. we did have an issue with the WIFI not working when we got there but were able to contact the rental company and they gave us a different WIFI to connect to and all was well. we were there mostly to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia National park. it was a bit of a drive to get to either (about 30 minutes). but if you're looking for a quite place to relax, this is where it's at! would, without a doubt, book again.

Nice Place

Easy to find and beautiful view of the ocean. When we first arrived, the access code did not work. The property manager was contacted however had to go through multiple instructions along with pushing buttons then wait for awhile for someone to answer. I also was texting for assistance and hoping one of the two access would let us into the home. A new code was sent and entry was not a problem. Top floor was beautiful and clean however bathroom was very small. The bathroom mirror was not cleaned. This was easily seen in the fogged mirror after the first shower. Kitchen was well stocked. Getting down the steep stairs to the lower bedroom was quite interesting even for my 75 yo uncle. As stated before in previous reviews from 1.5 yrs ago, the lower level was very musty smelling. It was recommended that the carpets be removed and I too believe it should be done. The bedroom was very dark. Not the same in the pictures. The website needs updated photos. Recommend dry walling over the particle board to help with the odor. Not a place recommended if one has Asthma. Did not care to pay $260 for professional cleaning especially when we had to start the first laundry. Recommend having a backup of clean linen. The house was too warm during the day. We were using all the fans for the upstairs however cooled off nicely at night once the sun had set. In all, a nice place but I think we will try another home next time. Thank you

Tried to cancel due to Covid, property manager not flexible. Then received call on day of arrival (after check-in time) that property was no longer available. Property manager does not respond timely. Did receive refund due to their cancellation, but be careful if they are giving your contracted property away with no notice.

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
