Our Lake Gaston cottage is located in a low traffic open cove just off the main lake. Enjoy swimming, fishing, boating or just relaxing in the perfect location. The dock features full sun almost all day. Boaters can tie up on either side of the dock. There is a diving board for the gymnasts in the family. Plenty of room for chairs or laying out. The house is located in a subdivision with quick access to a gas/ convenience store. Restaurants and a strip mall with a Food Lion is just a few miles down the main road. Three bed rooms and a futon sofa ensures plenty of sleep area for this small cottage. one bedroom features a queen bed. the second bedroom has a full size bed. The third bedroom features two sets of bunk beds (one with a full size bed on the bottom). Sorry, but we dont have a TV, or a phone land line (we like the fact that lake Gaston is our get-a-way we can forget the bustle and distractions of the work week or the city). Trust us, you will not miss them at all. There is high speed internet and most cell phones have decent signal from the house and dock. There are two bathrooms, one with a stand alone shower and the other with a tub/shower. There is both drip and Keurig machines for coffee lovers. PLEASE NOTE we have a septic system! please do not flush anything but human waste and toilet paper down the drains. We are pet friendly! But please clean up after your pets. There is plenty of parking so bring the whole family. Welcome to lake Gaston! Enjoy!

Perfect little house for my family and my brother in law and his daughter. Perfect amount of space and beds, house was clean and open. Host was extremely responsive and considerate.
We were a family of 4 that met our friends for a weekend at the lake. The view is fantastic and the house inside was clean and neat. Overall we had a great time. I have to say that the landscaping could be neatened, the house and porch could use a powerwash and some of the planks should be replaced.
We absolutely loved our stay at Jeff’s place. We had three kids and two dogs and still had plenty of space. The location; nestled off in a quiet cove with a dock for our rental boat, and a diving board! It was exactly for what we were looking. Jeff was very accommodating to our needs and requests. Overall I would highly recommend this stay to anyone looking for a much needed getaway from the bustling 9-5 world.
This was a very nice stay. There was a small issue about the cleaning, but it didn't affect our stay. Windows and cobwebs mostly. But a very nice place and very nice neighbors.
The view from the dock looks out from the cove to the main lake. The four of us could sit comfortably on the Adirondack chairs on the dock. The porch was a great place to read or just sit to look out to the lake. The house is older and could use some updating. The kitchen was short on utensils (bring your own sharp knives, measuring cups and spoons).
Location is fantastic, neighbors are super nice. The property is aging however that’s not the issue. The property was dirty upon showing up and could use a deep clean. Cobwebs, old food, molded coffee and a stale smell.

Not entirely truthful about property details
I saw the reviews stating there was cobwebs but I was not prepared for how many there actually was. We couldn’t even open the sliders to the porch or use the deck chairs because of how many cobwebs and how dirty they were. Rundown furniture on its last legs. Stairs to door and dock itself falling apart to the point I didn’t want to take my dog to the dock and risk his paws being damaged. The listing should have stated that there was owner food and belongings throughout the rental in drawers and cabinets. It’s their house of course, just should have been part of the info. Ok place I guess if you’re looking for a boat dock with a place to sleep, except I don’t own a boat. I will request a refund of my cleaning fee.

When I booked this property, it checked off all of our boxes. We wanted to be on the lake with a dock, we needed 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The pictures did let us know that the property was older and had not been updated which wasn't a concern for us. What the pictures didn't reveal was how dirty the house was on the inside and out. From the unsafe railing/stairs on the entrance way to the thick dust/dirt on the outdoor furniture to the refrigerator that was full of the home owner's food (opened and used food), the kitchen cabinet that we would hav stored our week's worth of groceries was filled with the home owner's food - opened food. We couldn't even find a knife for cutting - the disorder in the cabinet where we looked for cookware, cooking utensils, etc along with none of the needed items to cook a meal (and we were planning on cooking every meal while we would be there for a week) was astonishing. The pans that we did find in the disarray were unusable. Dirty dishes in the dishwasher, broken handle on the oven, panel missing at the bottom of the rusted out refrigerator. Then, the dog hair! Didn't want to sit down. Didn't want to walk on the filthy carpets. Didn't want to get in the beds with the mismatched and pilled sheets. Didn't want to open my suitcase to unpack in the bedroom closets filled with the homeowners mish mash of belongings from top to bottom. There was not one thing about this house that was guest ready. We were super disappointed in this property.
Decided to look for a last minute quick get away, and found this wonderful property!
Beautiful location, private & wooded on one side, easy water access & great fishing dock.
The owner has really put time & effort into his home and it shows! Many extras & the camp is a lot nicer, open & super clean.
Enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the water & sunset and walking down to the dock with our golden retriever who walked into the water several times. Thanks so much Jeff, for your prompt communication & providing such lovely camp accomodations!
Definately will be back!
The house is as advertised. The view is amazing, trees, cove looking out onto the big lake. Perfect for morning coffee on the dock, boating, swimming and relaxing all day long. Finished with the sunset through the pines. Look forward to coming back again. Our dog had her boundaries with the tree lined lot.
We all loved the deep water for swimming and were able to easily dock our own boat. The kids fished half the night and the dog swam half the day. We enjoyed relaxing on the deep, shady porch which has a gorgeous view of the water.
We had a blast here! Everyone in our family had their own space and the kids LOVED the diving board. We brought a boat so the dock was so convenient. The house is a perfect location on the lake. It is close to Washburn's marina and a short boat ride to the Point! Would definitely recommend this place!

Great fishing, not so great house.
The water is beautiful, fishing was great! The house and property are in need of attention and repairs. This rental would not be family friendly because of the owners unlocked liquor cabinet, unsafe walkway, unstable dock, persistent stale smoke smell, general unclean feeling, and lack of smoke alarms. I hope the owner will make the needed repairs to this home because the location is great.
Great location, house serves its purpose as we spend most of the time on or in the water and on the dock. We have stayed here 4 times and Jeff has always been great to work with. A heating problem was solved by him very quickly on a trip in April. He was 3-4 hours away and came to the rescue so we didn’t freeze as the temperature was in the 20s at night. Big thanks to him and due to the heating problem we encountered for a short period of time he offered a refund for some of our total cost, followed through on his word, and was more generous than we expected. In fact, we didn’t really expect anything but heat and he obviously went above and beyond due to the inconvenience. I would rent from him anytime.

very dirty, dock needs repairs
this house was very dirty. i had to spend the first hour there cleaning. if we hadn't traveled so far to be there i would have just left. i told the owner and he said it was supposed to be clean and he gave me the cleaning fee back. there was beer or something sticky all over the floor, dog hair all over the furniture, food in the sink, hair all over the shower, the fridge was very dirty too and over all bad smell. i never really settled in there because of this. the dock could really use repairs.
My son and granddaughter ended up joining my husband and I on vacation. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the outside landscaping and property could be neatened up some The Inside was perfect and clean. This property offered everything it said. We loved the outside porch and dock. We were only inside to eat and sleep. We brought kayaks and fishing poles and enjoyed every minute. We would rent again!!
We had a great time here. The property is right on the water and perfect for what we were looking to do (lounge on the dock and float in the water). All the neighbors are extremely friendly, and we had no issues! Just make sure to bring toilet paper! Would definitely recommend this place!
Exactly what we needed in a vacation home! Loved everything about it!

Grimy Getaway with Unrealized Potential
Home is in a great location. Owner is easy to reach and agreed to a partial refund of our stay. Jeff stated that the cleaning people must have not returned before our stay. From the amount of dust, bugs, and cobwebs in the home, I think they haven’t been cleaning for some time! No one wants to start their vacation by washing toothpaste out of sinks or cleaning the evidence of previous tenants questionable toilet habits!
We did enjoy our time on the water and spent the majority of our trip outside. The dock (as noted in description)needs repair.
As for the home, I have little that is positive to say unfortunately. It was very dirty, needs repair and updates. We spent the first 1.5 hours of our vacation cleaning and sanitizing. Thankfully we didn’t need one of the bedrooms and just shut the door and didn’t bother. The home have we such a grossed out feeling I ran to the store for Lysol to spray everything before putting the linens (that we washed) on the bed. While out, I also picked up towels for us. There aren’t enough linens in the home.
The dishwasher was clogged and had standing water with bugs in it. The air conditioner freezes up and has to be shut off daily to allow to thaw. Landscaping is overgrown and untidy.
We made the best of it and had an enjoyable time, but wouldn’t return to this location unless some changes were made.
We had a great stay at this property. Everything was as advertised. A few things could use replacing (dining room chairs) but overall the amenities were great for what we needed.

About the host
Hosted by Jeff Perera
Hi, I'm Jeff and this is my family's property. It has been part of our family since the mid eighties. We have seen Lake Gaston grow tremendously. We love the lake and the community and hope you will too.
Why they chose this property
This small cottage is the perfect lake getaway. The location is what makes this a true find. Many places on the lake are nice but don't have great lake views or sun most of the day. This location has it all. Its situated in a quiet cove, ideal for swimming, fishing or paddle boarding. Enjoy the sunny dock all day and sunsets in the evening. The house has the basic amenities but you come to the lake to enjoy the outdoors at an affordable price. Room for several so the whole family can enjoy. Located less than 2 hours from Richmond, Va Beach or Raleigh makes the property easily accessible. Also , stores and restaurants are only a few miles away. We think you will enjoy it as much as we do.
