About this property

Epicentre of Oxford: Luxury Apartment near University and Westgate Centre

Our 2 bedroom apartment in Faulkner Street is for those who want to be in the epicenter of Oxford. You are within sight of Christchurch College, next door to the new Westgate Shopping Centre and the fashionable Castle Complex, 5 minutes walk from the High Street and University colleges and 10 minutes from the Said Business School.

Faulkner Apartment is surprisingly quiet for such a central location, with a cycle path on one side and a cul-de-sac on the other. You can see the top of the spire of Pembroke College from the sitting room sofa and, when the leaves fall off the trees, Christchurch Colleges Tom Tower comes into view.

The interiors are designed with an artistic blend of ultramodern and antique. It has 20th century artworks on the walls, Persian rugs on the wooden floors and 18th to 21st century furniture. Faulkner is on the top floor (second floor) with windows on three sides. It feels light and airy and catches the sun all day.

The sitting room and the spacious master bedroom overlook the communal garden. The second bedroom is small, with a small double bed (4ft) and a fold-down work table. It looks west over the cul-de-sac towards the roof terrace of the Westgate Centre. There is a well-equipped kitchen with oak dining table, fully integrated appliances and stainless steel finish.
The kitchen is a food lover’s delight with an array utensils for the serious cook.

The sitting room has soft cream sofa and beautiful rug on the wooden floors. A glass coffee table allows you to lounge of an evening with your drinks watching the TV. The sitting room also has some beautiful pieces of antique furniture and original artworks on the walls.

The bathroom has wooden floors and a bath and integral shower. Both bedrooms have blackout blinds, as well as curtains, for those who need their sleep. There is super-fast fibre optic broadband and a Flat Screen TV.

Services include: linen service, super fast fibre optic broadband and all bills. Faulkner has off-street private parking for one car by separate negotiation. Please ask.

We also have studio apartments in a crenellated Victorian tower on the river at Folly Bridge. For more information search for follybridgehouse (all one word).

Extended Stay in Oxford

We had to move out of our house in Buckinghamshire for three weeks while work was being done on the kitchen at our residence and chose this property for the first two weeks, largely on account of its location. While we were concerned about its size prior to arriving, the apartment turned out to be adequate to our needs. The ad did not make clear it is a located on the third floor of an apartment building, but we got used to climbing the stairs up to the apartment front door. Security was good. The apartment is more spacious than it looks in the photos and is located just a few minutes walk from the southern entrance to the Westgate Center, a 6-7 minute walk from the Oxford High street. There is a medium-sized Sainsbury's in the WestGate center so food shopping is available close by. Because were were staying such a long time we brought a lot of our own food and kitchen utensils, but the kitchen was very well equipped. The clothes washer is a washer/drier combo, which takes a long time to wash and (especially) to dry. But it’s pretty quiet and can be lived with. We’re both academics who needed to get work done during our stay. While it’s (again) not obvious from the pictures, we managed to reconfigure some of the furniture to set up two office spaces that worked well enough. The internet connection is slow, but adequate (mostly). The apartment comes with a parking space, but the space is not close to the building entrance. Also, the custom in this area is for some of th

A Home from Home Stay

Already familiar with Oxford & location, almost a local. This was a relocation stay due to insurance work on my house in the next town. A refreshing change to live for a short while in the middle of the city centre, which is next to the main shops where you can buy your groceries, just browse, go out to eat, cinema, and visit all the tourist attractions or universities. The flat is in a quiet private street, not amongst the throng of the crowds which was fantastic. I particularly preferred this, along with having the shopping close to hand along with all the major bus routes around the corner (I need to use frequently). The property was clean and well equipped for my stay, and there was a glass of flowers to welcome me too. Only criticism I have is the fact that the website could do with updating as there was no longer a music system so I brought my radio. Catriona was very good to me when I needed to extend my stay and especially to organise an updated WiFi router as the internet was poor (it now works fine!) I was sad to leave, and my eyes opened to a different way of living. I'd even live there myself if it had a garden I could access. Perfect for me. Dropped a star because the website needs an update.

About the host

Host profile image
I am a writer and photographer and my Faulkner Apartment has some of my photographs as well as artworks from my partner's collection. I love my apartment for its warmth, quietness and closeness to the best things in Oxford. These days I live just upstream from Oxford on an island in the Thames but I love coming into the city. My passion now, in this era of climate change and global inequity, is to see how far one can make something beautiful and luxurious and at the same time contribute to an environmental and fair trade ethos.

Why they chose this property

Faulkner Apartment is almost as close as you can get to the centre of Oxford. You can walk out the back and in a minute be drinking sundowners on the top terrace of the new Westgate Centre with all the dreaming spires spread out before you. Walk out the front and in 2 minutes you are in Christchurch Meadows with Christchurch Cathedral, Magdalen College and the Botanical Gardens before you. The shops, cinemas and theatres are right by the apartment and long river walks are only 5 minutes down the road. The train station and Said Business School are 10 minutes walk.

What makes this property unique

What I love about this flat is that you are in the very centre of Oxford but it is quiet and sunny. The artworks on the walls which are from my partner's collection of 20th century art (and includes a few of my photographs) give it a special feel. I've stocked the kitchen for the serious foodie... with high quality saucepans and everything you might need to cook up a storm
